Construction: Doing Jobs Americans Won't Do
We have a very large contractor here called Vaquero Construction. The company is solely owned by a Mexican man who lives here in Houston. They were awarded a huge contract doing the construction work widening Interstate 10. This was a huge long term project that has been going on for 5 years.
If you look at the crews they have working, it looks just like what you would find standing in a Home Depot parking lot waiting on those ,jobs that American just don't want to do. None of them speak English. We found out that a large percentage of these so called "employees" are not here legally. Not to mention, the corporation itself s listed by the state as being in"unfavorable status." Check it out: Texas Comptroller
I have a funny feeling reporting this to ICE will do no good since this project has been going on for about 5 years. It is also apparent that the Mexican who owns this company obviously know someone high up in the State to get a contract like this. Ice is obviously ignoring this situation.
I saw a link somewhere that people like us could report business who hire illegals. Anyone remember this site?
Its a crying shame that when so many Americans are out of work, illegals are bing hired at slave wages to do construction jobs like that that are big money contracts. Ten years ago, nothing but Americans did these jobs and were glad to do them. Now all you see are illegal aliens.Certified Member

This is where those phony baloney stimulus jobs will go....A taxpayer subsidized illegal alien jobs give way...Why the silence from those terrorist hugging frauds Obama and Biden who say they will put Americans back to work....They will put illegal aliens to work and to hell with struggling Americans....

Neither would discuss specifics of Friday's tragedy, which happened as workers were pouring concrete on the elevated structure. But Matheson pointed out that similar structures have been built all over the world and that the accident occurred while it was supported by temporary framework.
OSHA investigators were expected to return to the scene Monday to continue trying to find out what caused the collapse.
Hardin Construction plans to hold a separate news conference Monday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the family of 66-year-old Angel Chupin, who died in the collapse, will hold a memorial service for him Monday evening at the Georgia Memorial Park in Marietta. They plan to return his body to his native Mexico for burial later.
Corporate greed exploiting slave labor for profit. Disgusting.

Report it to ICE. Most (if not all) of the original contractors "subcontract". Thus, the original contractor is not reguired to verify "employees" of the subcontractor. Huge portions of a construction job are supposedly "subcontracted". Supposedly is important here too...just another loophole in the job market. It is the subcontractor's responsibility to verify work eligibility. THIS is one of the huge problems that we have with the contract work in this country. And a major way that Contractors get off the hook for illegals working a job.

My suggestion is to harass our elected representatives to say NO! to any bailout of the construction industry.
I would also suggest that anyone who is directly injured by these practices, i.e., American citizens who have applied for and cannot get construction jobs, to file formal complaints with the labor department. Most communities have a local labor office within reasonable driving distance. My experience has taught me that the best way to deal with bureaucrats and bureaucracies is to document document document. Build a history of complaints and replies. If action is not satisfactory, elevate to the next level. When you have gone as far thru the system as you can, and have received no assistance, take copies of your pile of documentation, and send to your local, state and federal representatives. This is especially true for jobs funded with tax dollars (are there any other kind now?). When applicable, cite existing laws such as equal opportunity laws, Americans With Disabilities Law, and similar ones. Bureaucrats love paper when it is against someone else, so if you complain, they will require you to have documentation aplenty. On the other hand, Bureaucrats HATE paper when it points out their ineffectiveness, incompetence, laziness, possible corruption, etc. They especially hate paper trails that leads directly to themselves. So if they know you are documenting, it often gets their attention.
It has also been my experience that Bureaucrats will invariably do the minimum amount of action it takes to get you off their backs. Therefore it is best to be demanding on what constitutes satisfactory action."We have met the enemy, and they is us." - POGO

It is truly disgusting to see the construction industry overtaken by illegals. A friend's son tried to get a summer job in construction but wasn't hired because the whole crew spoke Spanish and were related to each other. This American kid didn't stand a chance to work in what was once an American profession.
