I am not defending Navarrette, I am defending freedom of speech. Which he has as an American as much as you do and as much as I do. You can gripe and protest all you want CNN.com should not take it of their site if they do then they should also remove reporter blogs, public blogs etc. Go to any big newspaper or tv station website, they are going to have blogs, oped/commentaries its all part of it. When someone starts to say get this guy of because I don't agree with him it defeats the whole purpose of having the story up in the first place. How many times do you read a newspaper and read a opinon piece and say what that is not right, probably a lot of times...I know I do it's part of the business.

Guess what? Too bad. We have just as much right to ask cnn to remove his column as he does to write his junk.

I'm going to send another email from another account now thanks to you.

    Second email sent:

I am writing to ask cnn.com to no longer publish editiorials by Ruben Navarette. Several of his columns are extremely offensive and anti-american. I don't think his writing has any place on this news site, and for that matter to be linked to the front page.

Please remove his columns and do not post anymore of his horrible writings.

    Thank you,

Ok and CNN.com I can almost assure is not going to care. For the same reason I have been writing. I study this, I go to school for this. We discuss this in all my classes. I am journalism major, and I can assure you that the piece will not go off their site.

But you should keep e-mailing because you have that right I am not denying that.

    Thanks for the insults.
Good luck with the e-mails and expressing your freedom of speech it is what makes this country great.
I would like to believe that all journalists defend freedom of speech and the truth. And while Navarrette's piece is not an expression of truth it is an expression of opinon which CNN.com clearly states.
It is however part of a debate that this country is going through and obviously a passionate debate(if that is even the correct word) because if not this site would not exist. And as part of the issue the piece can help people realize the bigger picture that some people may have some twisted ideas like this man may have. By silencing him it gets rid of the reason why you are fighting this battle to end illegal immigration.

This is mostly directed to iamretired23 and Aracely - but also, indirectly to all other posters on this thread...

As I explained to someone else in this thread via a PM, my objection to what Mr. Navarrette included in his article is based not so much on his opinions about immigration/illegal immigration - which, to no surprise, I do not happen to agree with for the most part. But, that is ok with me. I am perfectly willing to allow another person to hold an opinion which runs counter to my own - and express such thing publicly as well.

Similarly, it is entirely, I believe, a difficult but ubiquitous condition, whereby people that care to discredit the opposing 'side' jump quickly and easily into generalizations about people - their views, their motivations, etc. At the same time, all too often, I have noticed a tendency for some people to casually overlook their very own biases and prejudice - sometimes, people are so blind to such thing that they are stretched to recognize the fact, much less, admit it.

Onward... My 'beef' lies in a derogatory or inappropriate characterization of a term - and that usage displays an obvious ignorance of the term. Below is the offending content:

'I love the pairing. It illustrates America's schizophrenia on the issue and the built-in tension between the need to control our borders and the profits we reap from keeping it open, between the wall and wallet.'

'What do you know? That's just more schizophrenia.'

There is absolutely no justifiable reason to draw a comparison between a complex set of governmental policies to people that suffer from a mental illness. Such characterizations only reinforce stereotypes and further stigmatize people that suffer from mental illnesses (eg. which, by the way, are 'no-fault, organic brain disorders'). I wonder if Mr. Navarrette really knows much about schizophrenia or any other brain disorders for that matter...based on what I've read here today, I think not.

To rectify such ignorance, he should take the following steps:
    1). Issue public apology
2). Educate himself on subject matter
3). Refrain from repeating similar mistake in the future

Well if my emails don't count then you shouldn't be worried about me or anyone else from here sending them.

It's funny how you defend freedom of speech for someone like Navarette, whose views are exposed to many more than mine, but as soon as I email and complain with a few of my comrades you jump in and express your concern.
