Definitely the Democratic side of the party is not in favor of this - but why didn't the Republican side do something when they had all the power in Washington.

Simple answer - they don't want it either. If they did, they would have worked to get it done.

If the Republicans, not all, but most of them are talking immigration restrictions now - it's because it's election time.

    Don't be fooled.
On occasion you need to be thankful for what we do have instead of constantly living in a state of depression over what we don't have.

We have a lot more friends on the Republican side of the aisle than we do on the Democrat side, that's a fact. Would I like to see more support in the U.S. Congress for our cause on both sides of the aisle, sure I would! However, that doesn't erase my gratitude for the many Republicans and few Democrats (very few) that have been standing with us.

If the Republicans, not all, but most of them are talking immigration restrictions now - it's because it's election time.
Not true. some have changed their stripes because our anger has forced them too, but the majority of Republicans, especially in the U.S. House, have been with us all along on the issues of illegal immigration and border security.

Check the votes on H.R. 4437, the Border Protection, Antiterrorism and Illegal Immigration Control Act. (strictly an enforcement bill), which passed by a 239-182 vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. It passed with 92% of Republicans supporting, and 82% of Democrats opposing.

Now on to S.2611. If you'll remember, that was the Senate amnesty bill that passed the Senate. There were 36 folks that voted against that bill. Of the 36 votes, 32 of them were Republicans and only four were Democrats. The bill was stalled in the U.S. House by Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Sensenbrenner (R-WI).

Now for the numbers on the vote on Cloture to a Motion to Proceed on the Dream Act. bill. There were 38 Democrats that voted to proceed (supporters of the Dream Act.) and 36 Republicans that voted against the Cloture to a Motion to Proceed (against Dream Act.) on the bill.

Now, how anyone can say the Republicans and the Democrats are basically the same on the the issue of illegal immigration and border security is beyond me.

In 2008, regardless of party affiliation, we need to vote out the folks that have been against us (Reps & Dems) and vote in those that would secure our borders and deal effectively with the illegal immigration problem we're confronted with.

Rep. Nathan Deal (R-GA) currently has a bill in committee to end birthright citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants. If your representative has not signed on as a cosponsor, this is probably an excellent time to ring them up and request they do so! There are currently 96 cosponsors of the bill.

    Quote:
To amend section 301 of the Immigration and Nationality Act to clarify those classes of individuals born in the United States who are nationals and citizens of the United States at birth.

mw I am thankful for what we have - but I am thinking people believe we have more than we do.

I remember everyone saying what a great man Cronwyn was - well he wasn't/isn't. He voted the way he did because he wants reelected.

The Republicans have had plenty of time and they had plenty of power to do something about this - and they haven't.

It's not depression that keeps me paying attention - but it certainly isn't delusion either.

If we don't know our enemies, we are lost, and no the majority hasn't been with us. If they had, something would been done. This wouldn't not have been a non issue for 25 years.

The same people who have supposedly 'changed their stripes', haven't. They want to be reelected. A person doesn't go from being an open border lawmaker to being a law enforcement person. IF they were open border, that means they were/are on the payroll of big business. They aren't about to give that up.

I never said the majority was with us! I said the majority of Republicans were with us.

    Please read again:
