    Here's The Plan

Since they think the american people are so stupid they will pass this horrible bill now and the american people will forget by November. Before the election we will lower the gas prices, put the guard on the border and make them think we are securing the border. They will be happy that the border is secured, gas prices are low and maybe we will throw them one more little bone to insure we get re-elected.

Well now wait a minute. There may or may not be merit to your overall comment, but how do you imagine Congress is going to manipulate fuel prices? These prices are global, so are you saying that somehow Congress is in control of a secret cabal to move something as fundamental as the price of petroleum for the purpose of facilitating some domestic legislation?

    Hi W,

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), Trilateral Commission, Illuminati, La Raza (and similar Communist front organizations), and Tata are calling the shots.

What part of "We don't owe our jobs to India" are you unable to understand, Senator?

THose in elected office are nothing more than puppets of BIG BUSINESS and if BIG BUSINESS wants certain people in office, they can alter the price of gas up or down to accomplish what they wish in the general election.

I agree with Pinto. Simply put, big business is who is calling the shots and that is the historic term for this conflict we need to stick with.

How, precisely, is that supposed to happen?

Fuel prices are high because of dollar devaluation. Since the dollar is unbacked (our currency is a debt note, not a positive value note, and our government bonds are predicated on a national debt that has almost doubled in the last six years), its value is predicated by the nation's faith and credit weighed against its debt load. Oil prices are dollar-denominated, which means that a weak dollar leads to high oil prices. That this is a monetary phenomenon is demonstrated by the fact that other hard commodities, such as gold and silver, have increased in dollar-denominated value almost in lock-step with oil. It is also demonstrated by the fact that the Arabs and OPEC have made clear that there is no supply-side reason for the increased prices. The fact that OPEC has been pumping oil at record volumes has recently slightly offset the high dollar-denominated prices, and they will remain suppressed until the current global glut is exhausted.

Note that our two previous major energy crises (under Nixon and Carter) were both accompanied by major monetary crises. The "shortages" that existed each of those times were the result of fuel retailers not wanting to buy the high-priced fuel, choosing instead to wait it out and see if the prices would come down. That led to short-term shortages and panic, but increased pumping and exploration that occurs when prices are high resulted in gluts in each case that rapidly brought prices back down. We're seeing a similar phenomenon today.

Well, we're not supposed to be living in a democracy. The founding fathers considered and rejected direct democracy because they knew how easily the majority could be manipulated.
