Thread: Opinions cause riffs in families?

I am curious if those of you who have strong feelings regarding illegal immigration have had riffs in your families because of your beliefs?

I pretty much was disowned by mine last week. One family member sends out some statistics regarding the impact of illegal immigration via an email and I responded back to all with some stats about things I have experienced in the last few years...running from car accidents, people injured, shot, flag vandalized, etc. I was somewhat half hearted about it, but must admit that earlier that day we had found out an illegal just dumped her baby in a garbage can in a restaurant and I was feeling fed up with it all.

Well, I was called a racist and pretty much disowned. I believe the family member who sent the statistics out was called one too. If any of you knew me, you would know I was not a racist by any means of the word and I was really upset about being called that. Really upset.

Any of you also had tensions in your families or even close friends because of your support for fairness and the rule of law?

You are not alone. I had a similar problem with my (18 y/o) son. We had very intense and sometimes heated discussions this past Summer about illegals because some of his best friend's family members are here illegally. It ended peacefully when I showed him documented proof of what illegal immigration was doing to this country. Too many of my friends just listen to me rant and rave but are totally not interested and just go along with their self centered existences.

I also have a co-worker who has not spoken to me for months after we were celebrating the deportation of Elvira Arellano. My co-worker is an Mexican-American (anchor baby) who recently married an illegal alien.

Kind of sad isn't it. I know a lot of illegals and for the most part I like most of them. Most of them hate the crime that is following them as well, and some have even tried to explain to me why there are such cultural differences. I have a prob with the freebies, non-adherance to laws, unfounded demands, and the special treatment they get. This doesn't mean that I dislike people as a human being. I am very passionate about what is going on I must admit. It is all so upside down and inside out.

I guess I'm lucky in this regard.

My three children have all experienced the infiltration of and the dumbing down of the schools here in SoCal first hand, and they have been and are still disturbed by what they've seen. Two being teenagers, it's one of the few things we agree on.

My ex is more nuts about it than I am. I think she writes to Arnold, Boxer and Feinstein daily.

I have a big, spread-out family in Illinois, Arizona, Maryland, and Florida. Every one of them feels as I do.

This Thanksgiving will be a year since I spoke to my parents because of my feelings of illegal immigration.

caused me to leave my church which views the whole
thing as a human rights issue.

Yes, but it’s over politics. I only have one family member that feels soft on the illegal aliens.

Thanks, this could not of come at a better time. I needed something for Thanksgiving with the family/friends. That’s the day that after eating the turkey, they try to make the only Republican in the group the next turkey. They are my family, and I love them all, but they are wrong when then gang up on me. I’m taking my laptop this year, and at the first sign the lynch mob is forming I’ll show this video.

You may have taken some "strange" positions in the past, but I can assure you that standing against this invasion of illegal immigration is not "strange" at all.

No matter how things turn out, you will be considered a visionary and a patriot some day.
