California and Texas have been through the mill over this. Both states passed legislation that would deny benefits to illegals -- it was turned over by the federal government by and through the courts

There are plenty of Californians that feel as we do here on this forum. Yep, remember prop 187 well, back in 1994. We passed it overwhelmingly but was reversed by a court. Needless to say, it was like a stab in the back. Why vote? We had our chance to help save the state from financial hardship.
