CJNG Sicarios Attack Bars in Villaflores, Chiapas: Eight Kidnapped, Seven Found Dead
By El Huaso 12/31/2025 04:30:00 PM No comments
By "El Huaso" for Borderland Beat
A convoy of Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) sicarios dressed in tactical uniforms and driving cloned military pickups, burned two bars in Villaflores, Chiapas this weekend.
The attackers burned La Kábala Sport Bar-Karaoke and Anubis’s Disco Club, while kidnapping eight individuals, including the owners and employees. Three women suffered burn injuries during the chaos and were hospitalized.
This assault marks the latest violent action in the ongoing turf war between the CJNG and the Cartel de Sinaloa (CDS) over control of drug trafficking and migrant smuggling routes in the agricultural Frailesca region of central Chiapas.
The kidnapped victims were identified as:
Sergio Enrique Pereda Tamayo (owner of La Kábala)
José Armando Coutiño Ruiz (owner of Anubis’s, also a Cruz Roja volunteer)
Luis Rubiel Constantino Rodríguez
José Ángel Martínez Marina
Fernando Daniel García Pérez
Juan Ovani Camilo Girón
Mauricio Camilo Girón
Luis Fernando Fernández Ramírez
The search for the eight victims prompted a massive response from Chiapas authorities, deploying over 500 officers, supported by the Mexican Army, National Guard, and aerial surveillance, across the regions of Berriozábal, Cintalapa, and Ocozocoautla.
On Sunday, December 28, authorities rescued one victim alive and arrested seven suspected CJNG members at a safe house, seizing weapons and tactical equipment.
The body of Sergio Enrique Pereda Tamayo was found abandoned in a vehicle, dead from a gunshot wound to the leg that likely severed an artery. Officials noted Tamayo had a prior criminal record for drug dealing but had been released in November 2025.
On Monday, December 29, the remaining six bodies were discovered in the rural community of Santa Julia, in the municipality of Cintalapa, near where some cloned vehicles were recovered. Four more suspects were captured, along with additional weapons, drugs, tactical gear, vehicles, and homemade caltrops.
Authorities attribute the attack to a dispute over local drug sales between rival cells. The incident follows recent violence in the area, including frequent blockades and shootings. Chiapas remains a key battleground for Mexico's two most powerful cartels, with spillover effects even into neighboring Guatemala.

They are being accused of conducting fraudulent raffles and granting "loan shark" loans.
State police officers and federal authorities arrested three individuals from South America involved in fraudulent raffles and "loan sharking" schemes in the municipalities of Zapopan and Guadalajara.
The first incident occurred at the intersection of Oss and Amsterdam streets in the Valle de los Molinos neighborhood of Zapopan.
Officers observed two men who matched the descriptions provided in citizen reports that accused them of allegedly collecting money through fraudulent means.
Upon verifying their identities, they discovered that both individuals presented credentials identifying them as Colombian citizens. However, because they could not prove their legal residency in the country, they were referred to personnel from the National Institute of Migration.
The second incident occurred at the intersection of Mandarina Avenue and 9th Street, in the wholesale market in Guadalajara, where police officers encountered a Venezuelan national who could not prove his legal status in Mexico.

Due to the above, Arturo “N,” 31 years old, and Andrés “N,” 38, both of Colombian origin, as well as Dainer “N,” 21, from Venezuela, were referred to the immigration authorities to continue with the corresponding procedures.

The arrests took place inside a house located in the Las Cañadas neighborhood of the municipality of Zapopan.
Coordinated actions by federal forces in the municipality of Zapopan, Jalisco, led to the arrest of a man identified as one of the main perpetrators of violence in the Guadalajara metropolitan area, allegedly working for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, as well as two other men found in possession of firearms and suspected drugs.
The arrested man is José Gabriel "S," 26 years old, alias "Uber," identified by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) as the leader of a criminal cell of the aforementioned cartel and considered one of the main instigators of violence in the metropolitan area. He was allegedly responsible for drug trafficking, extortion, kidnapping, murder, and arms trafficking.
Two other men were arrested along with him: Mauricio Cruz "A" and Carlos Alberto "Q." Authorities seized a rifle, two handguns, three magazines, ammunition, 500 doses of methamphetamine, five vehicles, a property, and 10 cell phones from the three men.
This was achieved through mobile and aerial surveillance by federal forces, which led to the location of a residence linked to the leader of a criminal cell in the Las Cañadas neighborhood of Zapopan municipality. Based on the evidence obtained, a judge issued a warrant to search the property.

"El Mencho's" master plan: Why isn't the CJNG going all-in in Sinaloa?

Email ThisBlogThis!Share to XShare to FacebookWhile Los Chapitos seek the full support of Jalisco to stop "Mayito Flaco," Mike Vigil of the DEA assures that Nemesio Oseguera is simply waiting for both factions to destroy each other.
The internal war within the Sinaloa Cartel, unleashed since the capture of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada in September 2024, has entered a phase of desperate alliances. The Chapitos, weakened by losses against the faction led by Ismael Zambada Sicairos (“Mayito Flaco”), have turned to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). However, behind the deployment of hitmen and tactical equipment to Culiacán and Escuinapa, there is a much colder strategy at play on the part of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho.”
In an interview with Infobae Mexico, Mike Vigil, former director of International Operations for the DEA, described “El Mencho” as an extremely cunning drug trafficker who thinks like a “military general.” According to Vigil, the CJNG leader has no intention of waging an all-out war on behalf of the sons of “El Chapo” Guzmán.
The Tactic of Attrition
The CJNG's strategy is not to save Los Chapitos, but to allow the conflict to continue, thus weakening both sides. Vigil explains the key points of this strategy:
Minimal support: The CJNG sends limited reinforcements only to keep the war going and prevent Los Mayos from gaining ground quickly.
Mutual weakening: El Mencho benefits from both Zambada's and Guzmán's factions losing men, resources, and territory.
The final blow: "He's just going to sit there and wait until they destroy each other, and then he'll move in and take control," Vigil stated.
Sinaloa: A State Under Fire
More than a year after this conflict began, the toll is devastating: more than 2,000 murders have been recorded in the state, despite the constant deployment of military forces. The influx of hitmen from Jalisco into the southern part of the state has intensified the violence in municipalities like Escuinapa, where expert David Saucedo confirms that the clashes are now a direct fight between the CJNG and the Los Mayos faction.
If "El Mencho's" strategy succeeds, the CJNG is poised to become the most powerful criminal organization to ever exist in Mexico, absorbing the remnants of a Sinaloan empire that is devouring itself from within.

The Aftermath of El Mencho's Death: 252 Narco Blockades, 26 Dead Including a Pregnant Woman

26 people, including a pregnant woman, 17 soldiers, agents and police officers of the federal and state public security forces, and 8 CJNG cartel members died Sunday. The operation to arrest "El Mencho" took place in the outskirts of Tapalpa, about 100 miles south of Guadalajara, Jalisco.
The woman, who was three-months pregnant, died during a shootout between National Guard personnel and members of the CJNG who were stopping cars to burn at the intersection of Avenida de la Mancha and Covadonga, in Zapopan.
Despite numerous social media posts claiming tourists and hotels were being targeted by cartel members in retaliation, especially in Puerto Vallarta, no reports of deaths or injuries have occurred.
A guard at the Ixtapa state prison in Puerto Vallarta died after a riot broke out following the killing of "El Mencho." A Jalisco Prosecutor's Office Agent died after being shot at the intersection of Federalismo and Patria in Zapopan.
National Guard members were killed in separate confrontations including eight of them in Atotonilco, six in Las Cañadas in Zapopan at the intersection of Avenida del Bosque and Saltillo. The GN's Teocaltiche base was attacked resulting in the death of one soldier.
Four CJNG gunmen were killed during the operation in Tapalpa near the outskirts of the Tapala Country Club.
"El Mencho," and two others were captured but had sustained serious injuries and died while being transported to Mexico City.
Another died at the intersection of Fuelle and Lázaro Cárdenas in Guadalajara, where one of the several confrontations took place.
So far, 27 people have been arrested in connection with the events, including 2 in Tapalpa, 11 for their alleged participation in the violent acts that erupted in reaction, and 14 for alleged acts of looting some of the 69 Oxxo stores or 20 branches of the Banco del Bienestar that were set on fire.
The wave of violence that erupted this Sunday resulted in 252 roadblocks set up by drug cartels on highways in 20 states across Mexico, as well as vehicle fires and attacks on gas stations and businesses.
Jalisco saw most of the blockades, 65 in total and dozens more occurred in Aguascalientes, Baja California, Chiapas, Colima, the State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Michoacán, Nayarit, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and Zacatecas.
By Sunday evening, Mexican authorities reported that over 90% of the blockades had been cleared.

Five CJNG Members Arrested for Retaliatory Attacks after El Mencho's Death in Ixhuatán, Chiapas.
By El Huaso 3/13/2026 02:30:00 PM No comments
By "El Huaso" for Borderland Beat
Five CJNG members were arrested for their participation in retaliatory attacks after El Mencho's death and sending threatening audio messages to local authorities in Ixhuatán, Chiapas.
The five men were arrested in a multi agency operation which included a Black Hawk helicopter in the town of Chapayal Grande, in Ixhuatán, in the north of Chiapas state. The men are accused of participating in retaliatory attacks in Chiapas in response to the February 22nd killing of CJNG boss Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes "El Mencho" in a security operation.
These attacks occured in over 20 Mexican states, where CJNG members burned vehicles, corner stores, and created hundreds of barricades on public roads. Prosecutors also claim the men were behind a series of threatening audio messages which were sent to authorities in the regions of Pueblo Nuevo Solistahuacán, Rayón, Tapilula, Ixtapangajoya, Ixhuatán and Pichucalco. Some of the messages were partially in Tzotzil, an indigenous language spoken in Chiapas.
This is the second group of captured CJNG members accused of the same messages. On February 26, another four CJNG members were arrested by the Fuerza de Reacción Inmediata Pakal (FRIP) y la Guardia Estatal Preventiva, also in Chapayal Grande.
This operation mirrored similar raids by the Mexican government on CJNG cells linked to the February 22 retaliatory attacks. Killing El Mencho was a tactical success, but also a major failure to contain CJNG retaliation. The event caused the largest one day loss of soldiers in recent history, and mass disruption and panic across large parts of the country.
Yesterday, authorities in Baja California arrested Ángel Javier “N”, alias “El RR”, a CJNG member allegedly behind vehicle burnings in Mexicali. On March 8, federal authorities arrested "El Cherrys, the third in command of the Gulf Cartel Metros faction, allegedly also responsible for retaliatory attacks in Reynosa.

Iranian Hacking Group Threatens Former Canadian Politician with CJNG Beheading
By Socalj 3/23/2026 03:03:00 PM 1 comment
"Socalj" for Borderland Beat
A pro-Islamic regime hacker group that sent death threats to former Ontario MPP Goldie Ghamari earlier this month was named as one of four Iranian intelligence operations shut down by the U.S. government. One of their threats stated that a bounty of $250,000 was placed on her head and information on her and another's location in the US was provided to members of CJNG.
The FBI announced it took down four websites facilitating Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) hacking efforts. The DOJ says these efforts were tied to “psychological operations and transnational repression."
A website used by the Iranian government-linked hacking group Handala Hacks, that claimed responsibility for a March 11 cyberattack on *a U.S. medical device maker Stryker is back up and running a day after the FBI and DOJ seized its internet domains.
Handala said in a post on its website Friday that the seizures were "desperate attempts by the United States and its allies to silence the voice of Handala."
Handala Hack, was tracked by Check Point Research as an Iranian threat actor that is known for multiple destructive wiping attacks combined with “hack and leak” operations. The group has several online personas, one of the most prominent among them being HomeLand Justice during a 2022 cyber attack on the Government of Albania.
The group, which first appeared in late December 2023, first drew attention this month after claiming attacks on Verifone and Stryker, two major US companies it framed as retaliation targets because of their ties to Israel.
The FBI’s investigation revealed that the email account Handala_Team@outlook[.]com was used to send death threats to Iranian dissidents and journalists living in the United States and Canada. In the email, Handala Hack offered bounties and openly called for Mexican cartel “partners” to commit acts of violence against their targets.
The email issued a $250,000 bounty death threat against former Ontario Member of Provincial Parliament Goldie Ghamari, which directed the CJNG, Jalisco New Generation Cartel, to behead her at her Ottawa home.
“Both of you will be executed soon,” the email to Goldie Ghamari read, “and we have offered a reward of $250,000 for the operatives who kill both of you.” The second target was Elica Le Bon, an Iranian-American lawyer and activist based in Los Angeles, California.
Online Death Threats
On March 1, 2026, the Handala_Team@outlook[.]com account was used to email two victims, located in the United States and abroad. In an email with the subject line “Death to Elica le Bon and Goldie Ghamari.” the sender wrote:
"We the Handala Hack team, the loyal followers of the supreme leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei, declare war on all the enemies of Islam in the West. Our partners, the CJNG cartel in America and Canada have been given a list of our enemies who are responsible for our great leaders death. Elica le Bon and Goldie Ghamari, you laughed like hyenas and called for war on our great leader during the Piers Morgan show. We have hacked and revealed your home addresses in LA and Ottawa to our partners in the CJNG who are in California and Ontario now. Both of you will be executed soon, and we have offered a reward of $250000 for the operatives who kills and beheads both of you. ALLAHU AKBAR"
Ghamari, a former Progressive Conservative member of provincial parliament for Carleton who since leaving office has become one of the most prominent Iranian-Canadian voices publicly condemning the Islamic Republic.
Ghamari’s family had fled to Canada when she was only a year old in 1986, after an assassination attempt on her father in Iran.
Ghamari said that she has tuned out much of the online rhetoric against her, focusing instead on “being a voice for people in occupied Iran.”
“I have a very successful YouTube channel. I livestream every day in English, and the purpose of the channel is to raise awareness about what’s happening in occupied Iran [and] this is obviously a threat to the Islamic regime. It does not like the fact that people are learning the truth, and so it is trying to attack me,” she said.
The use of the CJNG as an execution proxy for Iranian intelligence represents a documented escalation in the operational relationship between the Islamic Republic and Latin American criminal organizations.
“There are longstanding money-laundering and trafficking ecosystems that connect Latin American cartels, Iranian state-aligned networks and global criminal finance.”
US "Mafia" Plot Foiled
Earlier this month, Asif Raza Merchant was convicted of conspiracy to murder for hire and attempting to commit an act of terrorism transcending national boundaries. Merchant was a trained operative of the Iranian government’s global terrorist force, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Merchant admitted at trial that the IRGC sent him to the United States to arrange for political assassinations and steal documents, but law enforcement foiled the plot before any attack could be carried out. Merchant arrived in the United States in April of 2024, met with purported hitmen in June who were in fact undercover U.S. law enforcement officers in New York posing as American Mafia members and was placed under arrest before leaving the country in July of 2024.
Merchant admitted that he began working for the IRGC in Pakistan in late 2022 or early 2023, when he received training in tradecraft, including countersurveillance. Later in 2023, he was sent to the United States to look for potential IRGC recruits who could stay behind in the United States. Merchant testified that he knew that the IRGC was a designated terrorist organization. Throughout this period, Merchant repeatedly traveled to Iran to meet with his IRGC handler.
Merchant testified that in 2024, he was sent back to the United States with a new mission: to recruit “Mafia” members to steal documents, stage a protest, and arrange the murder of one of three specific U.S. government officials and politicians. To that end, Merchant contacted an acquaintance in New York who he thought could help him with his scheme. That person, Nadeem Ali, instead reported Merchant’s conduct to law enforcement and became a confidential source.
In early June, Merchant met Ali in New York and explained his assassination plot. Merchant told Ali that he had an ongoing opportunity for him and then made a “finger gun” motion with his hand, indicating that the opportunity was related to a killing. Merchant further stated that the intended victims would be “targeted here,” in the United States. Merchant instructed Ali to arrange meetings with individuals whom Merchant could hire to carry out these actions.
“Merchant, a trained Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps operative, entered the United States intending to commit acts of terror, and ultimately, to facilitate the assassination of U.S. government officials, including President Trump,” said Assistant Attorney General for National security John A. Eisenberg. “Merchant’s plot struck at the heart of our democracy and our commitment to the rule of law. NSD remains committed to defending our Nation from the pernicious threat of terrorism.”
“Iran’s terrorist regime sent Asif Merchant here to sow mayhem and murder,” stated United States Attorney Nocella for the Eastern District of New York. “Thanks to the vigilance of our law enforcement partners, his scheme ended in failure. Today, with Merchant’s conviction, that failure is complete. This Office will always remain vigilant in our mission to protect the United States from foreign terrorist adversaries.”
Iran's Criminal Group Connections
In recent years, with heavy sanctions and intelligence agencies tracking Iranian movements; the regime has contracted out to several criminal organizations for procuring weapons and to assassinate dissidents on foreign soil, including the US. Several of these organizations have connections to Iran and terror groups such as Hezbollah through the underground money exchange network known as Hawala.
Kinahan Cartel
In 2015, a man was shot dead in the Netherlands, he had been living in hiding for over two decades. The person who coordinated the hit from Iran was arrested in a Dublin safehouse belonging to the Kinahans.
It is also said that the Kinahans, having been sanctioned as well have been laundering drug money through Iranian banks.
Last year, Daniel Kinahan and his father Christy Sr. were spotted at a live MMA event in Dubai. Daniel was photographed with former UFC fighter Mounir Lazzez.
Lazzez has been the director of two companies that have purchased oil tankers in recent years sanctioned by the US for transporting oil linked to Iran and Hezbollah.
Hells Angels Canada
Recently, the US charged several men, including a full patch member of the Hells Angels based in British Columbia, Canada, with conspiring with high-level Iranian drug trafficker Naji Zindashti, to have a dissident and their spouse killed in Maryland.
Russian Thieves-In-Law
A similar conspiracy went a step further when police stopped a man near the New York home of journalist Masih Alinejad, who is critical of Iran and a woman's rights activist. He had an AK-47 in the car and had been contracted by Rafat Amirov, known as "Rome," a known member of Russian organized crime from the Czech Republic.

17,000 Liters of Precursor Chemicals for Synthetic Drugs Seized in Guanajuato

Guanajuato police arrested two men who were transporting over 17,000 liters of chemical precursors used for making synthetic drugs without documentation on the on the Morelia–Salamanca highway.
The bust is notable as Guanajuato is not a major synthetic drugs production state. Based on the direction the load of precursors was heading, combined with Michoacán's reputation as a synthetic drug production state, the chemicals were likely headed to the Carteles Unidos, the criminal organization in Michoacán who supply the CSRL with their methamphetamine.
In 2024, Guanajuato newspaper Periodico Correo published an article tracking narco labs found in the state, finding that the bulk of them were found a decade ago.
This aligns with Borderland Beat interviews with local researchers, who state that both the CJNG and CSRL purchase methamphetamine from other states for the local consumer market, rather than creating their own. This could be a result the decade-long CSRL-CJNG fight for Guanajuato, which impedes the ability of either criminal group from investing in a lab which could be easily located and attacked.

A Sinaloa Cartel Linked Gang Has Attacked Seven Bars in Cancún So Far This Year

At least seven Cancún bars have been attacked by a criminal organization since the beginning of 2026, leaving six dead and eighteen injured. The attacks are most likely being carried out by Los Chinolas Band, a Sinaloa Cartel-linked gang operating in Cancún. The bars are likely being attacked to pressure the owners to pay extortion rents and allow the sale of narcotics and prostitution. The most recent attack occurred early on Monday morning, when gunmen entered Fushion Sport Bar and opened fire on those inside, killing one and injuring five. This attack matches the modus operandi of most bar attacks in Cancun this year. Gunmen, often arriving on motorbikes, enter after dark and begin shooting without any warning.
Authorities have arrested one woman for being behind a bar attack. On March 14, authorities arrested “La Pastrana,” identified as a presumed Sinaloa Cartel cell leader behind the attack on El Carbonero two days prior. La Pastrana is allegedly an officer of the Los Chinolas Band, a Sinaloa Cartel-linked gang operating in Cancun.
Bars in Cancún are important control points for criminal groups. Often, they are drug sale points, prostitution dens, as well as targets for extortion.
Map of bar attacks:
30 March - Gunmen attacked Fushion Sport Bar around 1:30 a.m., injuring four and killing one.
29 March - Bar Emporio attacked by gunmen on motorbike around 8:00 p.m.. Gunmen fired at the bar fifteen times and torched a vehicle with a molotov cocktail.
13 March - Gunmen entered the bar Like Music Terraza, previously named El Muchacho Alegre, killing the owner and injuring three others, including an off duty police officer acting as the owners bodyguard.
12 March - Gunmen opened fire at bar El Carbonero, killing three and injuring one. El Carbonero previously operated as a strip club called Mansion Venus Nightclub Cancún.
20 February - Gunmen entered Bar Babilonia around midnight, shooting at four people inside. One died.
13 February - Gunmen on motorbike opened fire on “La Palapa de Chocky” or “Las Muñecas De Choky", injuring five people, two of them servers.
9 January - Gunmen attacked El Águila Real, injuring one server. This was the fourth time the bar has been attacked.
