What's so wrong with the REAL ID ACT?

This appears to be an issue that separates conservatives from libertarians.

If I had an ID that affirmed my status as a US citizen, it would be a great source of pride to carry such a document. And illegal aliens and their fellow travellers are perhaps more horrified at the prospect of REAL ID than any other law enforcement measure.

You know, I'm still sort of indecisive about this myself.

I do understand the concerns and agree that one has to be extremely careful to prevent abuses by the government.

However, it is my feeling that there has to be an alternative to the easily forged and fraudulent documents we now rely on. They are truly our Achilles Heel and I don't see how, exactly, we will ever get a real handle on terrorists or anyone sneaking into this country unless we are willing to accept some form of ID which cannot be compromised.

American citizens are having to prove they are citizens! What?! We now need this stupid ID. Meanwhile are borders are WIDE open and we are getting flooded with illegals everyday. Oh, but sorry let me go out of my way and show you I belong here with this idiotic ID. I support the SAVE act, which puts pressure on employers to check on who they are hiring. Close the borders and take away governmental subsidies to illegals. It is that simple. Don't intrude on the American citizen anymore!! I have not done anything wrong or illegal!!! Leave US alone!!!!

There is NO SUCH THING as an ID that "cannot be compromised". To think that it would be possible to create such an ID is foolishness. Any technology that purports to create such an ID is also available to those who would SUBVERT it.

I just want to relate how it has effected us in Nevada since
they already have it here

When we go in to reknew our drivers license now we have to
take a birth certificate , Also we use to get our new license
right away , now it takes about 3 weeks to arrive in the mail

It still looks like the old ones and is good for 4 years with
another 4 years that you can reknew over the internet

It really just seem like another way to control the citizens of this country. You know, BIG BROTHER! Next they will want to restrict what is said on the internet. Forget having any unbiased news. No more reaching out to people and discussing our issues. We will be watched. I read on another thread that people were trying to post a comment regarding McCain on a CNN site. Their posts never were put on. WEIRD.

It was the very same thing my Dad said when he handed me my SS#. This is sacred....give it to no-one...this is essentially who you are....now look at where we are. It too was supposidly tamper -proof.....no-one but secure people would ever know....no-one could ever get this number......ya right. Our credit cards were supposidly secure....our birth certificates too.....couldn't get a drivers license or anything without it.....now look at where we are. It is nothing. Difference is right now....it doesn't take decades to break the code.....it's days. Remember the cell phone that was the "new" thing? Took just a few months for someone to break the code. And a high school KID did it. They already broke the codes for the secure EU stuff before the last one was issued.. When it's a global world with brains on every continent.....there is always someone who can break it.

Finger prints aren't even a sure thing. When someone...anyone wants around the law....they will find a way. I always liked the saying.....whenever you think you know it all.....you know nothing.

Someone....in some way will ALWAYS find a way around it.

Anything you can do I can do better....I can do anything better than you.

Without rock hard enforcement....nothing means anything.
