    Calif Exodus Turns to Stampede!!!

High taxes drive jobs, people from one state to another

WASHINGTON – California, which once lured Americans from near and far, is now driving out millions of the most productive residents – including high percentages of the most affluent.

"When California faced a Mount Everest-sized $14 billion deficit in 2003, one of the major causes for the red ink was the stampede of millionaire households from the state," says a report called "Rich States, Poor States" by economists Arthur Laffer and Stephen Moore. "Out of the 25,000 or so seven-figure-income families, more than 5,000 left in the early 2000s, and the loss of their tax payments accounted for about half the budget hole."

And it's not just the rich leaving.

Based on data from moving companies, California had the second-highest domestic population out-flow of any state in 2005, according to the report, "despite the beautiful weather, beaches, and mountains.

The bad news for California is that it faces a $14 billion deficit this year, despite boasting one of the highest tax burdens in the nation.

The report, published by the American Legislative Exchange Council shows jobs are not just leaving the country – they are moving from state to state, with the population following.

"States are in direct competition with each other for human capital and business investment. State governments that think they can attract jobs and people, and grow their economies, by taxing their citizens at a higher rate than their neighbors are sadly mistaken," said Democratic Arkansas state Sen. Steve Faris, ALEC's 2008 national chairman. "Legislators should take a close look at where their state ranks in this book and use it as a tool to help them improve."

Moore told the Heartland Institute he is discouraged that government officials at all levels apparently have failed to recognize the benefits of tax cuts, spending controls, and open markets.

"We've gone from $25 trillion to $56 trillion of asset value in 25 years," said Moore. "Policies that were enacted in the 1980s to bring this about are being reversed."

Laffer's "Laffer Curve" analysis of tax rates, economic growth, and government revenues shaped the tax-cutting policies of the Reagan administration in the 1980s. Laffer served as a member of President Ronald Reagan's Economic Policy Advisory Board for both of Reagan's terms as president. Moore is founder of the Club for Growth and senior economics writer and editorial board member at the Wall Street Journal.

The report provides economic competitiveness rankings for all 50 states based on 16 policy variables with a proven effect on the migration of people and investment capital in and out of states. States with the lowest tax, spending, and regulatory burdens win the competitiveness contest. These are primarily in the South and Southwest regions of the nation.

According to the findings, a record 8 million Americans moved from one state to another in 2006, revealing which states have the most dynamic and desirable economies and which are "has-been" states, according to Laffer and Moore.

I've always heard it said that the rest of the nation eventually follows the trends in California. So is this what we have to look ahead to?

How can California compete, last I heard we were known as the WELFARE state. As long as sanctuary cities and freebies reign people will continue to leave and all Cali will left with are IA and their families, the cespool they created and it will look and be exactly like Mexico where corruption reigns supreme. What is California going to do when most of their people are on welfare? Who are they going to tax then? What hospitals will be open? Schools? Teachers? They'll flcok to other states and then these invaders will try to invade other states because they feel entitled and I hpe that the states who border Cali will have been smart to build a fence so high and 3-4 layers deep and have a shot on sight deal going on because that's the only thing that will save other states from the hell hole we live in here in California.

The only way that California can have as many net negative tax payers in the short term is by having high taxes placed on it's taxpayers. Those tax payers are leaving for states that do not do as much as California to put the interests of taxpayers behind the interests of illegal aliens.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

iilegals also give california more electorial votes because they are counted in the census-utah got screwed in the last census because americans who lived in utah that were overseas on missions and illegals who are in NC were counted and NC got Brad Miller who supports amnesty-No onder, they gave him his seat in the US congress.A group acually asked ICE not to deport people while they were taking the census for fear illegals would hide and not be counted -believe it or not

Meant to say ,these americans from Utah who were on missions were NOT counted in the census in utah -as opposed to illegals in NC were, thus tipping the narrow margin for NC.

Have you heard the saying, when California sneezes, the rest of the country catches the flu? Generally what starts in California eventually spreads to the rest of the country. That is, unless a state takes measures to resist it. Unless evey state realistically tackles illegal immigration by instituting Comprehensive Immigration ENFORCEMENT, which California has refused to do, this is what you can expect:

As of 2006, California contained greater than 25% of the total illegal alien population within the U.S. Many of these illegals concentrate in Los Angeles. New statistics from the Department of Public Social Services reveal that illegal aliens and their families in Los Angeles County collected over $37 million in welfare and food stamp allocations in November 2007 – up $3 million dollars from September. Twenty five percent of the all welfare and food stamps benefits are going directly to the children of illegal aliens. Illegals collected over $20 million in welfare assistance for November 2007 and over $16 million in monthly food stamp allocations for a projected annual cost of $444 million. “This new information shows an alarming increase in the devastating impact Illegal immigration continues to have on Los Angeles County taxpayers,â€

If you don't get rid of your illegals, this is exactly what is coming your way.

Is there any wonder that California is right now in a fiscal crisis emergency with a budget deficit greater than $14 billion and growing? Reliable estimates calculate illegal aliens cost the state $10.5 billion each year! Why not cut all public services to those not in the U.S. legally? Just a simple thought on my part that would go a long way to putting California back on its feet.
Our state isn't doing well either and especially Chicago. There isn't a day that goes by that they are stradigising on more taxes or something else to sell to get more money. They started taxing "collar counties" for the Chicago transit when 90% of the people in those counties don't use the services. Our taxes are already high and it seems it's not going for anything except the school, welfare and pensions. Their welcome mat eventually leads to your door even when you don't live there.
