Please everyone. May we stop this, get beyond the jabs at one another, and respectfully deal with the topic.

I'm going to step in here because this conversation is getting to agressive between ALIPACers.

Stillfree, please do not call established ALIPAC board participants "trolls" or any other caustic names.

Redpony, you can use all CAPS if you want but JP is right by letting you know that many people on the web will think you are yelling. We have some participants that use CAPS because of their eyesight and because of their computers.

JP, the "gradeschool" comment came across as pretty snide.

So everyone, please raise the respect bar a notch for the sake of unity. We are all on the same side here even when we disagree on a subject.


On the topic of American troops being deployed on American soil for activities involving the American public....

I personally do not favor the plan for several reasons.

1. Our forebears in America had a prohibition against this practice and I feel we should honor the wisdom of their tradition. They had that rule in place for a reason and those reasons were what they observed in other nations and here in America under Brittish rule. You can see evidence of this in the Bill of Rights and later after the Civil War when troops being used for law enforcement was barred by the Posse Comitatus Act.

2. JP is right that many totalitarian regimes are very fond of using troops to handle their citizens with very poor results. Using troops to protect America from invasion on the borders and to round up illegal aliens and illegal alien gangs would be OK because these are foreign nationals on US soil. Using US troops to arrest and detain American citizens is unacceptable.

3. The American miliitary is filled with Patriots that care about America and the Constitution to which they swear an oath, yet the Executive Branch of the US (which controls the military) is obviously out of control and the lifting of the Posse Comitatus restrictions is an increase in power going to the Executive.

4. Bush admin has already power grabbed the National Guard and can now take control of them over the states!

If the problems we are seeing with illegal immigration and the lack of regulation of our financial institutions etc are indeed the result of the Executive Branch coming under the control of Global financial elites or governments that are in truth hostile to the US such as China and Saudi Arabia then to give the Executive Branch the power to use American troops against US citizens would be a very bad idea.
