National Honor Society already mandates 20-100 community service hours (UNPAID) from its members in middle and high school.

I wish him luck with forcing recipients of welfare and illegal aliens to volunteer their time.

If they wont work for pay what makes him think they will work for nothing?

When was helping out your community ever a bad thing?? In terms of classroom corps,I believe volunteering your time and, say, helping tutor kids in elementary or high school is just what we need for our schools. The government can't always provide extra help around the classroom, so this is the chance for us, the people, to do what the government can't and help make the public school system better! If you're gonna waste your time partying and drinking, college students may as well put that time to good use and help out.

It always starts off sounding "nice." Volunteering is fine. You have the freedom to make your own decision. Anything that is compulsory by the government should be resisted.

If its required its not volunteering. This is how Hitlzer's youth movement got started. Then they tell you what to think and the penalities of not thinking that way. First its good for you and others, then its bad for you if you don't conform. Are you going to get to PICK were you want to volunteer. Is your church OK? Is it OK to work for a conservative Senator? Is is OK to work for Concerned Women of America? Maybe at first but trust me later it will turn on you. No this is fascism in the beginning.
