Nepal in DEADLY Destruction! Entire Village Destroyed in Flash Flood, 1000+ Dead?!

Summary
Two days after a mountain fell on northern Nepal, the search for the missing had to be called off—because it started happening again. The debris-dammed lake created by the August 26 collapse began overflowing, Nepal Police ordered everyone in the disaster zone to move to safer ground, helicopters were grounded mid-operation, and on the Chinese side every vehicle and worker withdrew as officials warned of secondary mountain collapses and avalanches.
The confirmed dead is approaching 500, with somewhere between 1,000 and 2,400 people still missing depending on which agency you ask—a spread that exists because the buildings holding the records went into the river with the people who kept them. And the science has been rewritten. Satellite imagery shows this was not, in the way that matters, a glacier collapse at all. Dan Shugar of the University of Calgary: "It looks to have been a large rock avalanche—a big bedrock landslide that took part of the glacier with it." Jakob Steiner of the University of Graz described the sequence: "the lower part of a glacier tongue that sheared off because the rock below failed ... That mass of ice and rock dropped from 5,100 to 3,000 meters, damming a river."
The ice did not break and pull the mountain down. The mountain broke, and took the ice with it. That distinction matters: ice melts and can return, but what holds a vertical rock face together at 5,000 meters is permafrost—and permafrost that thaws does not refreeze on any human timescale.
IN THIS VIDEO: • The second scare: the 2-million-cubic-metre barrier lake, the 90-minute rescue suspension, and the all-clear • Why scientists now say the bedrock failed, not the glacier — and why that is worse • "One hundred percent"—Shugar on whether climate change makes these events more likely • Who is actually missing: 85 soldiers and police lost at their own posts, ~60 hydropower workers, 668 foreign tourists from 34 countries, 65–90 Americans • Survivor Raju Budhathoki, who ran to a police post for safety and found the police already running • The tunnel rescue: 350 hydropower workers pulled out alive, 100 more still trapped—and Buddha Tamang, who survived because he was underground • China's response at Gyirong: 681 firefighters, 47 drones, and Xi Jinping's call to strengthen early warning • THE STORY NOBODY IS TELLING: on August 13, a landslide blocked this same river inside Tibet. Nepal was never told—it worked it out because the river level dropped. Thirteen days later the mountain came down.
SOURCES: • Scientific American—"Why glacial collapse likely caused the Nepal disaster" (Shugar, Steiner, Cook), Aug 27, 2026 • US News / AP—satellite imagery analysis of the bedrock failure, Aug 27, 2026 • GB News / BusinessToday—rescue suspension and lake overflow, Aug 28, 2026 • Kathmandu Post / OnlineKhabar / The Federal—survivor accounts and rescue figures • CBS News—65 Americans among the missing, Aug 27, 2026 • Xinhua / Bloomberg / US News—Gyirong Port damage and China's response • USGS—magnitude 5.2 landslide determination
This is a developing story. Casualty figures were accurate at the time of recording and are still rising; where sources disagree, we say so. Our first report on this disaster covers the collapse itself and why no warning was possible.
