Learn to make your own infant formula that’s far healthier than store-bought processed formula

Friday, May 13, 2022 by: Ethan Huff
    8,920VIEWS

(Natural News) The ongoing baby formula shortage has many parents concerned, but there is no need to panic. These simple, easy-to-make recipes will provide your little ones with more nutrition than anything they could ever get from a store-bought powder.
Each of these recipes was lovingly created by the nutrition experts at the Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF), which is dedicated to teaching people about whole foods made traditionally for optimal health.
The first one contains raw cow’s milk, which unfortunately is not available in every state or area. To see if raw milk is available near you, visit the Real Milk website.
Just to be clear, the following recipe can still be made with pasteurized commercial milk. It will not be as healthy, but it is still better than any store-bought processed formula that you might find.
    Raw Milk Baby Formula

Since human breastmilk is naturally richer in whey, lactose, vitamin C, niacin, and long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids than cow’s milk, as well as leaner in casein (milk protein), WAPF developed this recipe to render the cow’s milk as close as possible in composition to human breastmilk.
The recipe also contains gelatin, which makes the formula easier for babies to digest (this one makes 36 servings).
    Ingredients:
    • 2 cups whole, raw cow’s milk, preferably from pasture-fed cows
    • 1/4 cup homemade liquid whey (Note: Do not use powdered whey or whey from making cheese, which will cause the formula to curdle. Only use homemade whey made from yoghurt, kefir, or separated raw milk – see recipe at WAPF website.)
    • 4 tablespoons of lactose (available from Radiant Life, which you can also reach at 888-593-8333)
    • 1/4 teaspoon Bifidobacterium infantis
    • 1/2 teaspoon unflavored high-vitamin or high-vitamin fermented cod liver oil or 1 teaspoon regular cod liver oil (see WAPF’s recommendations)
    • 1/2 teaspoon high-vitamin butter oil (optional)
    • 1 teaspoon expeller-pressed sunflower oil
    • 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil (Note: Always be sure to use the real thing.)
    • 2 teaspoons coconut oil
    • 2 teaspoons Frontier brand nutritional yeast flakes
    • 2 teaspoons gelatin (Collagen hydrolysate is not recommended; see WAPF shopping guide for recommendations.)
    • 1-7/8 cups filtered water
    • 1/4 teaspoon acerola cherry powder
    Instructions:
    • Put 2 cups filtered water into Pyrex measuring pitcher and remove 2 tablespoons (leaving 1-7/8 cups water)
    • Pour half of water into pan, place over medium flame
    • Add gelatin and lactose to pan, let dissolve stirring occasionally
    • Once dissolved, remove from heat and add remaining water to cool mixture
    • Stir in coconut oil and optional high-vitamin butter oil, stir until melted
    • Place remaining ingredients into blender
    • Add water mixture and blend for three seconds
    • Place in glass bottles or jars and refrigerate
    • Before feeding to baby, warm bottles by placing in hot water or bottle warmer
This same recipe can be made with goat milk as well, but just be aware that goat milk lacks folate and is low in vitamin B12, both of which are vital nutrients for developing infants.
Adding more nutritional yeast to the goat milk formula will help provide extra folate. To compensate for low levels of B12, add 2 teaspoons of organic, raw chicken liver that was frozen for 14 days and finely grated.
    Liver-Based Formula

WAPF’s liver-based formula also closely mimics the nutritional profile of mother’s milk. This one absolutely must include coconut oil, which is the only ingredient that provides the special medium-chain saturated fats found in mother’s milk.
    Ingredients:
    • 3-3/4 cups homemade beef or chicken broth
    • 2 ounces organic liver, cut into small pieces
    • 5 tablespoons lactose
    • 1/4 teaspoon Bifidobacterium infantis
    • 1/4 cup homemade liquid whey
    • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
    • 1/2 teaspoon unflavored high-vitamin or high-vitamin fermented cod liver oil or 1 teaspoon regular cod liver oil
    • 1 teaspoon unrefined sunflower oil
    • 2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
    • 1/4 teaspoon acerola cherry powder
    Instructions:
    • Simmer liver gently in broth until meat is fully cooked
    • Liquefy using handheld blender or food processor
    • Once liver has cooled, stir in remaining ingredients
    • Store in very clean glass or stainless steel container
    • To serve, stir formula well and pour 6 to 8 ounces in very clean glass bottle
    • Attach clean nipple and set in pan of simmering water until formula is warm but not hot to touch, shake well, and feed to baby (never heat formula in microwave)
Some readers are probably wondering why both of these recipes contain vegetable oils like sunflower and olive oil. The answer is that vegetable oils are very high in linoleic acid, which serves as a precursor for arachidonic acid, which along with DHA is necessary for proper infant development.
At four months, a baby’s first solid food should be an egg-yolk based formula, the recipe for which is available at the WAPF website, along with a simple recipe for fortifying commercial baby formula if you need a simpler shortcut.
The recipe for making your own homemade whey is also provided there along with additional tips for making the recipe process for all baby formulas as simple and organized as possible.
Take some time to peruse the WAPF website as it contains a trove of useful information about nutrition for both babies and adults alike.
“It takes me about 10 minutes now to mix up a batch,” says WAPF chapter leader Sarah Pope about her success in making highly nutritious homemade baby formula quickly and easily, offering the following additional tips:
    • Set all tools, ingredients, and recipe on counter
    • Measure 2 cups water, remove 2 tbsp
    • Put half of water in small saucepan
    • Turn dial on stove to 3.5 (low heat)
    • Add gelatin and lactose and set coconut oil nearby
    • Stir with baking spatula
    • In blender, add milk and whey (put back in fridge)
    • Add all dry ingredients (put back in cabinet or fridge)
    • Then add all oils (except coconut)
    • Stir water mixture again
    • Take off heat, add coconut oil
    • Stir slowly until melted
    • Add remaining water and pour into blender
    • Blend for three seconds
    • Add cream and stir

Put a Dent in Rape with Ounces Pistol — SHOT Show 2023

by LEVI SIM on JANUARY 19, 2023
Related Tags: .22lr, Buzz, Ounces Pistol, Pistol, SHOT Show 2023, Third Bay

When Bill Osborn’s close family member was raped twice in one night, he decided he could help stop rape by creating a firearm that’s more concealable and more accessible to those who are wary of owning a gun.

The Ounces Pistol transforms from a thing in your pocket or purse into a bullpup 22.LR pistol with the press of a button and a flick of the hand. But it still has a real trigger and a 3.75″ barrel and weighs just 7.5 ounces.

Folded up, the Ounces Pistol looks nothing like a firearm. Press the blue button to deploy.

Bill figures that this totally non-gun design makes it feel safer to carry. There is absolutely no way it can discharge while folded, and it doesn’t look menacing. But, if the situation is looking hairy, it can be deployed and still concealed in a pocket.

SEE ALSO: 12 Days of SHOT Giveaway Winners List — You Can Be Next!

Press the red trigger to fire, and press the green button to fold.

It pops open like a Transformer toy from the ’80s, and it’s pretty cool.

It utilizes a Locked bridge-style semi-automatic action. The magazine is on top and feeds horizontally backward to the action, then drops the casings out the bottom of the grip. The bore axis is very low.

Bill says they’ve got thousands and thousands of rounds through them without failures. He recommends using Federal Punch .22LR ammo.
It’s also very easy to open and load or clean. It pops open to expose the magazine and reveal the barrel and action, which removes easily for cleaning.

The magazine is at the top where those white ribs are visible.

This is the barrel and action.

The magazine holds 10+1 and it cocks and chambers when it is opened, though he recommends carrying it with one in the chamber.

This gun is available now directly from Third Bay, though orders are high and they are growing production “organically.” The good news is that he’s taking orders, but not taking cash until it’s your turn for production. The current cost is $899.

    Specs and Features

    • 10+1 semi-automatic 22LR pistol approx 8 oz loaded
    • Compact size, lightweight, and secure in the closed state leading to superior convenience for conceal carry
    • Cannot be fired in a closed state but may be deployed rapidly and re-closed as quickly
    • Full-length handle and long barrel length for better control and accuracy
    • Bolt/slide is enclosed – no “slide bite”
    • Very low barrel axis for rapid fire accuracy
    • Very low recoil
    • Locked breech design for power and cleanliness, unique for rimfire
    • Indicator for chambered round
    • Spent cartridges drop out the bottom rather than flung to the side
    • Easy to load magazine with no spring to push against, simultaneous access to magazine cartridges
    • “Racking” is done without having to pull against the main spring and uses the handle for leverage
    • Fast tool-free access to barrel and bolt for ease of cleaning and jam clearance
    • Simple to operate, easy to learn design
    • Doesn’t imprint when conceal-carried

Sub 4lb 9mm Takedown Carbine under $1k? TNW Delivers — SHOT Show 2023

TNW Firearm’s new Aero Survival Rifle LTE weighs less than 4 lbs and takes down.

We’ve seen TNW’s Aero Survival Rifle in a few different iterations over the last few years. But the LTE is a significant change from its beefier big brother. The LTE weighs in under 4 lbs.

Like the originals, the LTE’s barrel completely detaches for easy carry in a backpack, or probably the console of your truck. TNW uses a patented design to lock the barrel back in place.

SEE ALSO: GunsAmerica’s 12 Days of SHOT Giveaway — $50K in Guns & Gear!

There is a long distance between where the barrel meets the chamber (with a keyed connection) and where the barrel nut locks onto the receiver which reduces any room for wiggle. Coupled with their cone-shaped coupler, they say this gun holds zero with an optic.

This patented barrel mount helps the rifle keep zero even after takedown.

The ejection port can be set to either side of the gun.

The direct blowback action has a reciprocating charging handle that can be mounted for right- or left-handed operation. The safety can also be set to either side.
Most interestingly, the ejection port can also be set to eject from either side.

The LTE takes Glock mags and AR grips and stocks.

Ports on both sides, the vented top Picatinny rail, the m-Lok slots (at 3, 6, 9), and the pencil-profile (threaded) barrel all make this gun a lot lighter than the originals. Oh, and it takes Glock mags.

    M-Lok slots at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock.

The LTE has a FAL-style trigger with just three parts that also weighs in at about 4 lbs. The steel parts are parkerized, while the aluminum receivers are hard anodized. It comes with a Mission First Tactical stock and Kriss grip but is compatible with any AR stock and grips.
TNW’s new Aero Survival Rifle LTE will be available this summer for $899.

    Specs

    • Barrel length: US 16.25”
    • Barrel Twist: 1:10
    • Overall length: US 33.0″
    • Overall length (Collapsed Stock): US 29.5”
    • Breakdown dimensions with barrel removed: US 17.25”
    • Available calibers: 9mm
    • Magazine configuration: Glock pistol style
    • Left or right handed ejection and charging
    • Weight: 3.95 lbs
    • Coating: Hard Anodized
    • Action: Semi-automatic, direct blow back
    • Safety: Sliding safety and integrated child trigger lock

Stag Arms: ‘The Bolt Gun’ — SHOT Show 2023

by MITCHELL GRAF on JANUARY 19, 2023
Related Tags: Buzz, Rifle, SHOT Show 2023, Stag Arms

    Stag Arms “The Bolt Gun”

Primarily known for their semi-auto ARs, Stag Arms came into SHOT Show 2023 swinging by unveiling their first-ever bolt action rifle.

This bolt gun is so new that don’t even have a name for it yet. For now, they are just calling it “The Bolt Gun.”
However, it is more than just any ole bolt gun. This new rifle from Stag Arms is based on the Remington 700 action and features AICS magazine compatibility, interchangeable stocks, interchangeable bolt knobs, 60-degree bolt throw, ARCA rail, M-LOK bottom metal, Picatinny extended rail, and a deep fluted and threaded barrel.

SEE ALSO: GunsAmerica’s 12 Days of SHOT Giveaway — $50K in Guns & Gear!

While the rifle shown out on the floor was still just a prototype, the Stag Arms rep was telling me they would be changing a few things such as extending the fluted cuts on the barrel more to the rear. This will help shave off more weight, allow the barrel to cool quicker due to increased surface area, and add +10 style points because we all know fluted barrels look cool!

This bolt gun, which falls into the Stag Arms Pursuit lineup of rifles, is AICS magazine compatible. These magazines are quite popular and easy to find so this is a much better choice than running some sort of proprietary magazines. The bolt is also interchangeable with Ruger bolt knobs.

    AICS compatible.

One of the neatest features of “The Bolt Gun” is the rail Stag Arms incorporated into the bottom of the rifle.

It is an M-LOK section but comes with an ARCA mount, as well as an extended Picatinny section that they are calling the “toothbrush.” This allows for compatibility with all forms of tripods, bipods, and accessories consumers may be running.

Unique design to provide a lot of versatility.

The stock is also made by Stag Arms and utilizes a pivot pin to hold it to the frame of the rifle. This allows for future modularity as Stag Arms said they will be releasing a plethora of options to be mounted to this rifle when it hits the market.

SEE ALSO: Stag Arms Enters the Hunt With the Pursuit Line of ARs — SHOT Show 2023

]I also noticed they used steel inserts for the QD mounts on the rifle which is a great choice as QD slots milled into aluminum or magnesium frame have a tendency to wear out over time.

Pivot pin that is used to change out stocks on the Stag Arms “bolt gun.”

While “The Bolt Gun” debuted at SHOT Show is just a prototype, Stag Arms is anticipating these to be available sometime around Q3 of 2023.
This rifle will be chambered in .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor, and come in with an MSRP of somewhere around $2,000 with a street price somewhere around the $1600 range.

by JEFF CRAMBLIT on JANUARY 19, 2023
Related Tags: AR-15, Buzz, Gunsmithing, Rifle, Riflescopes, SHOT Show 2023, Shotguns, tools

Real Avid has been crushing the do-it-yourself (DIY) gun work market for years. Whether it’s for cleaning, assembly, scope mounting, or whatever other tools you need to maintain your firearms, they’ve been building it for years.

This year they came out in full force at SHOT Show 2023 with 18 new product offerings. The largest and most impressive, in my opinion, is the Master Gun Workstation. This is far more than just a gun vise or rest, it’s loaded with features.

Have and see everything you need with both hands free!

It has a rear ratcheting foam-lined Trigger Clamp to hold the back end of the gun and a forward gun gripper rest that is adjustable up to 18.3 inches of travel along the dual tubular guides. The forward rest is also adjustable for height with the push of a button.

SEE ALSO: GunsAmerica’s 12 Days of SHOT Giveaway — $50K in Guns & Gear!

Each corner of the Workstation has height-adjustable, non-slip feet to allow leveling the workstation and holes to allow screwing to the bench for a more permanent mounting. At each of these corners there is also a small parts/ tools storage area to help keep your workspace organized.

Base leveling adjustment and storage area.

Once you have it level it should make mounting scopes a lot easier. In addition, on the Trigger Clamp (rear end) there is an Accu-Level knob that allows tilting up to 3 degrees in either direction. The Master Gun Workstation retails for $199.99!]

As if all that wasn’t enough there is a tray mounted on the tubular rails that is magnetic for holding small parts and provides the mounting sockets for the Smart-Assist Accessory System. The Accessory system comes with three flexible arms for holding the accessories just where you need them.

Rechargeable light, charging port, battery indicator, and power button

One accessory is a rechargeable work light that has three power levels depending on what you need to illuminate. Number two is a 5-inch magnifying glass to allow you to see details and small parts, and the third is a cell phone holder to allow you to watch videos of what you need to be doing. Or you can record yourself working if you’d like.
    The kit retails for $99.99

Magnetic pin starter and multi-faced Armorer’s Hammer

Additional new products include the Smart-Fit Bore Guide that has interchangeable tips to accommodate several caliber ranges, an Armorer’s Hammer, with a magnetic pin starter that stores in the handle for those pesky little roll pins, and many more.

Bolt guns, AR rifles, and shotguns are all supported by Real Avid

    A Prototype Roller-Delayed 5.56: The PTR 63 — SHOT Show 2023

by RILEY BAXTER on JANUARY 19, 2023
Related Tags: Buzz, SHOT Show 2023

The PTR 63, as seen on the SHOT Show floor

The PTR 63 is a new prototype roller-delayed weapon chambered in 5.56 that will hopefully be available around June of this year.

PTR is a clone manufacturer based in our very own Aynor, South Carolina. They have been producing great products for over 15 years.
I see their PTR 63 as an HK93 “clone-ish” because of the way PTR has mixed and mingled aspects of an AR15 with the classic HK platform to yield a rifle that is a modern take on a classic model.

The upper is reminiscent of an HK 93 rifle with its roller-delayed blowback action, but the lower has a few tweaks that will be appreciated by the end user.

The controls on the PTR 63 are rather intuitive, but the bolt-stop is a unique addition to this platform.

The PTR63 has a side-charging handle that is non-reciprocating and can be locked open and slapped shut like many iconic HK weapons.

Thanks to some changes in the lower, though, the gun features last round bolt hold open and a bolt-stop similar to what would be found on an AR15. Speaking of, it should be said that the AR15 is likely the most ergonomic rifle platform in the world, and the PTR 63 will benefit from using an AR-style grip that can be mixed and matched by the user if desired.

Even still, it gets better. This rifle accepts AR15 magazines, making it cheap and convenient to stock up. You probably even already have a few laying around.

And last, but not least, the PTR 63 has an AR buffer tube which is not required for operation but enables the mounting of AR-style stocks. Both the grip and buttstock that come on the 63 are made by Hogue.

A Hogue stock comes on the PTR 63.

A few other noteworthy features of the PTR 63 include an HK-style trigger mechanism, M-LOK handguard, 1/2″x28 TPI threaded muzzle, and a rotating rear peep sight with labeled yardages.

Because this rifle is a prototype, changes are still being made. But it currently comes in at around 8 lbs and has a projected MSRP of around $1,700.00. Check out PTR‘s website to learn more.

A flash hider comes on the threaded muzzle and the front sight is the classic HK design.

    Specifications and Features:

    • MSRP ~$1,700.00
    • available mid-year
    • roller-delayed blowback operation
    • Hogue AR15 grip
    • Hogue buttstock
    • M-LOK handguard
    • takes AR15 magazines
    • 1/2″x28 TPI threaded muzzle
    • 16″ barrel
    • ~8 pound weight

    More pictures:

The rear sight is adjustable with a small thumbscrew.
