When SHTF and the grid goes down, you will realize that there are different items that you take for granted in your daily life, such as food and salt or seeds for your home garden.Emergencies highlight the need to start your survival stockpile now so you don't run out of important items because you are unable to buy more at the grocery store after things go south.
Below are some items that you need to start stockpiling before it's too late. (h/t to AskAPrepper.com)
First aid items

Most non-preppers often have a few first aid items stored in the bathroom or kitchen cabinet, but it’s better to add more supplies to your survival stockpile so you have access to different items even after SHTF.
When buying supplies, include useful items like adhesive tapes, bandages in different sizes and gauze pads.
Hygiene items/toiletries

You will need the following items when SHTF:

• Deodorant
• Feminine hygiene products
• Kitchen cleaning items
• Laundry detergent
• Shampoo
• Soap
• Toothbrushes and toothpaste

Ensuring proper hygiene and sanitation is often overlooked, but they are crucial aspects of disaster preparedness. Having these items on hand ensures that you can keep yourself clean and well-groomed, which can help prevent infections and diseases after SHTF.
Salt

Salt has many survival uses beyond adding flavor to certain dishes. When SHTF, you can also use salt to help preserve food.
As you are preparing your survival stockpile, you can store large quantities of salt in plastic containers that you can stack on top of each other. (Related: An essential guide to storing organic foods for survival.)
Seeds for gardening

If you are dealing with a long-term survival scenario, you might run out of food supplies one day. Fortunately, you can prevent this by starting a home garden now.
Aside from growing crops for food, you can also grow herbal plants to use for homemade remedies, which is important if you are worried about losing access to basic medicine when SHTF.
Invest in seed packets and they will pay dividends when you are bugging in at home and have access to fresh fruits and vegetables in your backyard.
After a large-scale disaster, you can also use extra seed packets in your stockpile as a form of currency that you can trade and barter with. Choose seeds for vegetables such as cucumbers, kale and zucchini so you can feed your family nutritious food even after disaster strikes.
