1,350 Supporters Greet Ron Paul at ISU Youth for Ron Paul Rally

Turnout far exceeds organizers plans for 650 attendees maximum as more than double attend

    ANKENY, Iowa
    – More than 1,350 mostly-young supporters greeted 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul at a “Youth for Ron Paul” (YFP) rally held at Iowa State University (ISU). Turnout far exceeded event organizers’ estimates considering a similar event will be held tomorrow night at the University of Northern Iowa, a mere one and a half hours drive away. In addition, YFP organizers were given just a week to organize both Hawkeye State rallies.

“Expectations often run high yet I was still blown away by the energy in the room. With less than a month until the caucuses, students will play a pivotal role in the outcome, and this will only help Ron Paul,” said Edward King, National Youth Director for the Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign.

“This many students would only show up for Ron Paul – no other Republican candidate,” added Ani DeGroot, Midwest Regio
    nal Director for YFP.

The rally took place at ISU in the Memorial Union Great Hall, located at 2229 Lincoln Way in Ames. It was expected to attract a maximum of 650 attendees, but campaign staff soon realized that the Great Hall was not enough. In response, the team directed overflow into the Oak Room and South Ballroom.

The ISU event is the first of two YFP events the 12-term Congressman from Texas will hold during a far-reaching three-day visit to Iowa that concludes Saturday night with the ABC News / Republican Party of Iowa Debate.

Tomorrow’s event, which is free and open to supporters of all ages, will be at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in the Commons – Slife Ballroom, located at 1224 West 23rd Street in Cedar Falls. Doors will open to the public at 6:30 p.m. To enter 30 minutes early and secure a spot near the front of the room, RSVP for the UNI event featuring Dr. Paul at http://ronpaulatuni.eventbrite.com/.

Youth for Ron Paul (YFP), an initiative of the Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign, launched on Wednesday, September 7th and since its inception more than 15,300 people signed up to get involved, forming 307 chapters in 46 states.

Ron Paul: Israel Our Best Friend

There is far more discussion of the pros and cons of current American foreign policy toward Israel in Israel than there currently is in the United States. The Republican Jewish Coalition’s decision to exclude Ron Paul from their GOP presidential candidates forum yesterday was an attempt to make sure the conversation remains one-sided. In fact, this exclusion means the RJC believes there should be no conversation: Every other Republican presidential candidate already agrees with the foreign policy status quo—it is Paul who offers the only opportunity for a real dialogue.

Paul explains in the following interview how our current policies often undermine both Israel and our interests, how American foreign aid is a net negative for Israel, and how the United States’ habitual encroachment upon Israeli sovereignty consistently undermines that nation’s defense.

It should not surprise anyone that our greatest democratic ally in the Middle East would actually practice democracy, including free speech. Here, Paul explains foreign policy views that the Israelis themselves are exposed to on a regular basis and that many of them agree with, despite how rarely they might be heard in the United States.

Ron Paul's Loyal Supporters Are Getting Ready To Shock The World In Iowa

    Michael Brendan Dougherty | Dec. 7, 2011, 9:22 AM

Ron Paul's supporters in Iowa are very loyal and very excited. And they are poised to make Paul the winner of the Iowa Caucuses next month.

This isn't the script the media has been writing for this campaign. Instead, "Tea Party Queen" Michelle Bachman, who beat Paul by just a few score votes at the Ames Straw poll earlier this year, was supposed to win this state - and confirm that the GOP has gone bonkers.

Bachmann is polling in the low single digits now. Since Ames, Ron Paul has put in the most time in Iowa, he is running the best ads, making the sharpest criticisms of his rivals, and putting together the best organization.

In Iowa he polls behind only Newt Gingrich, the latest flavor of the week. But Gingrich commands little in the way of organization, money, or loyalty with voters.
This is no longer a political novelty act. It's not a seminar on the Constitution disguised as a campaign. This is the emergence of a populist-libertarian force that is growing into an organized movement in American politics.

And if Paul shocks the establishment in Iowa, January 3rd 2012 will be recorded in history as this movement's coming out party.

At the Washington Examiner Conn Carrol points out that all the polling shows that even though 66 percent of Iowa Caucus-goers could change their mind before January, Ron Paul's supporters are the most devoted of any candidate's in this contest.

"The people who like Ron Paul are intensely loyal and they will turn out [on caucus day] no matter what,” said Jeff Stein, a political analyst and Iowa caucus historian tells The Washington Examiner. “I don’t think there is that kind of loyalty for any other candidate in the field.”

And why wouldn't they be loyal? Ron Paul is offering something distinctive in this race - a return to a non-interventionist foreign policy, sound money, and Constitutional principles. And he has the ability to expand his support beyond his loyal fans, Iowa Republicans rate him the "most honest and trustworthy" among all candidates. It's his consistency, even when he is at odds with the average Republican voter, that has impressed Texas voters for years.

Even if Paul fails to win the nomination, his campaign ,like Goldwater's in 1964, can help leading libertarians identify their supporters and build long-term political institutions that can draw on their fund-raising power and activist energy for decades.

And this movement may have already have its next champion, in Ron's son, Rand Paul.

Ron Paul could complicate GOP's two-horse race

DES MOINES, Iowa - Texas Rep. Ron Paul has a serious chance of winning a top-two spot in the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses, enabling him to create problems for at least one of the GOP's presumptive front-runners heading into New Hampshire, political analysts said.

As some GOP candidates have faltered, Paul has maintained a steady rise in Iowa state polls since he won second place behind Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann in the state's straw poll in August.

Today, Bachmann's support has fallen to single digits. Texas Gov. Rick Perry and businessman Herman Cain each enjoyed brief stints as front-runners. But Perry's support faded following a string of poor debate performances and Cain dropped out after one woman alleged a 13-year affair with him and others claimed he sexually harassed them.

Paul, meanwhile, continues to earn second or third place in Iowa state polls.

Leading the pack is former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who won between 26 percent and 33 percent of support in three recent polls.

Paul and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney are running neck-and-neck behind Gingrich with an average of 18 percent in support.

For Paul to win the caucuses, he would have to earn at least 30 percent of the vote on Jan. 3, according to Steve Grubbs, a longtime Iowa political consultant and state director of Cain's former campaign.

But Paul has a fervent following that could surprise on caucus day.

"The people who like Ron Paul are intensely loyal and they will turn out [on caucus day] no matter what," said Jeff Stein, a political analyst and Iowa caucus historian. "I don't think there is that kind of loyalty for any other candidate in the field."

Paul's supporters are the least likely to change their minds, according to a Des Moines Register poll.

"A Ron Paul victory in Iowa is a very, very real possiblity," said Tim Albrecht, spokesman for Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad.

Despite his top-tier status in Iowa, Paul -- who leans libertarian and ran for president as the Libertarian Party's nominee in 1988 -- has had a hard time gaining traction nationally within the Republican establishment.

"Ron Paul is the uncle who is honest to a fault," Grubbs said. "Everybody loves him and most people agree with about 80 percent of what he says. It's the other 20 percent that's such a deal-killer."

If he won Iowa, Paul would solidify a first-tier status in the race.

If he placed second, he would drive a wedge between Gingrich and Romney, who are perceived nationally as the top two front-runners, Stein said.

Placing second behind Romney, Paul would blunt Gingrich's surge in the polls.

Coming in second behind Gingrich, Paul would deal a serious blow to Romney heading into New Hampshire, where Gingrich is catching up to Romney in the polls.

THOSE IN POWER FEAR RON PAUL AND HIS MESSAGE OF LIBERTY, FREEDOM, AND RESPOSIBILITY. THE QUOTES BELOW ARE THE TRUE REFLECTION OF THE MAN AND HIS IDEAS. IDEAS CAN CHANGE THE WORLD. DO YOUR PART TO FIGHT THE MISINFORMATION CAMPAIGN BEING WAGED BY THE CORPORATE MEDIA AND THEIR POLITICAL HACKS BY SENDING THIS LIST OF QUOTES TO EVERYONE IN YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BOOK.

Quotes Of The Day - Ron Paul Edition

“Ideas are very important to the shaping of society. In fact, they are more powerful than bombings or armies or guns. And this is because ideas are capable of spreading without limit. They are behind all the choices we make. They can transform the world in a way that governments and armies cannot. Fighting for liberty with ideas makes more sense to me than fighting with guns or politics or political power. With ideas, we can make real change that lasts.”
    - Ron Paul, Liberty Defined: The 50 Urgent Issues That Affect Our Freedom

“Under the United States Constitution, the federal government has no authority to hold states “accountable” for their education performance…In the free society envisioned by the founders, schools are held accountable to parents, not federal bureaucrats.”
    - Ron Paul

“I’m convinced that you never have to give up liberties to be safe. I think you’re less safe when you give up your liberties.”
    - Ron Paul

“Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens’ lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons.”
    - Ron Paul

“Truth is treason in the empire of lies.”
    - Ron Paul, The Revolution: A Manifesto

“Mr. Speaker, I once again find myself compelled to vote against the annual budget resolution for a very simple reason: it makes government bigger.”
    - Ron Paul

“The most basic principle to being a free American is the notion that we as individuals are responsible for our own lives and decisions. We do not have the right to rob our neighbors to make up for our mistakes, neither does our neighbor have any right to tell us how to live, so long as we aren’t infringing on their rights. Freedom to make bad decisions is inherent in the freedom to make good ones. If we are only free to make good decisions, we are not really free.”
    - Ron Paul

“Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.”
    - Ron Paul

“Failure of government programs prompts more determined effort, while the loss of liberty is ignored or rationalized away…whether is it is the war on poverty, drugs, terrorism…or the current Hitler of the day, an appeal to patriotism is used to convince the people that a little sacrifice of liberty, here or there, is a small price to pay…The results, though, are frightening and will soon become even more so.”
    - Ron Paul

“When the federal government spends more each year than it collects in tax revenues, it has three choices: It can raise taxes, print money, or borrow money. While these actions may benefit politicians, all three options are bad for average Americans.”
    - Ron Paul

“A system of capitalism presumes sound money, not fiat money manipulated by a central bank. Capitalism cherishes voluntary contracts and interest rates that are determined by savings, not credit creation by a central bank.”
    - Ron Paul

“Let it not be said that no one cared, that no one objected once it’s realized that our liberties and wealth are in jeopardy.”
    - Ron Paul

“The original American patriots were those individuals brave enough to resist with force the oppressive power of King George…Patriotism is more closely linked to dissent than it is to conformity and a blind desire for safety and security.”
    - Ron Paul

“As many frustrated Americans who have joined the Tea Party realize, we cannot stand against big government at home while supporting it abroad. We cannot talk about fiscal responsibility while spending trillions on occupying and bullying the rest of the world. We cannot talk about the budget deficit and spiraling domestic spending without looking at the costs of maintaining an American empire of more than 700 military bases in more than 120 foreign countries. We cannot pat ourselves on the back for cutting a few thousand dollars from a nature preserve or an inner-city swimming pool at home while turning a blind eye to a Pentagon budget that nearly equals those of the rest of the world combined.”
    - Ron Paul

“It is no coincidence that the century of total war coincided with the century of central banking.”
    - Ron Paul, End the Fed

“A citizen walking through the airport today is bombarded with 1984-style propaganda messages that are designed to make us fear some amorphous threat and also be suspicious of others. The government designs these messages to make us feel dependent and heavily lorded over in every aspect of our lives. These messages are becoming ever more pervasive, hitting us even in grocery stores when we are shopping.”

    Debunking The Anti-Paul Messages

December 26, 2011 by Bob Livingston

    UPI
Ron Paul makes remarks at a town hall meeting in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, on Dec. 21.

The Republican establishment has become apoplectic over Congressman Ron Paul’s growing strength in Iowa.

Last week, Iowa Governor Terry Branstad attempted to delegitimize his own State’s vote when he said that if Paul wins the Iowa Caucus, it won’t matter. Of course, if Newt Gingrich or Mitt Romney wins, he won’t say that. In fact, according to Branstad, a second- or third-place finish by Gingrich or Romney will be more important than a Paul win.

“People are going to look at who comes in second and who comes in third. If Romney comes in a strong second, it definitely helps him going into New Hampshire and other states,” Branstad reportedly said. What Branstad did not say was that he’s been offered a potential Vice President spot on a Romney ticket.

Branstad and his elite bedfellows are trying to draw you into an alternate universe. Never mind that two out of the past three winners of the Iowa Caucus have gone on to win the Republican nomination, a Paul win will mean the Iowa vote is irrelevant.

According to a new Iowa State University/Gazette/KCRG poll of likely Republican caucus-goers, Paul has moved into first place – the fifth candidate to hold that spot since the mid-August Iowa GOP Straw Poll. This is the second recent poll showing a Paul lead.

In the ISU poll, Paul is the first choice for 27.5 percent of the registered Republicans and registered independents contacted. That’s up from 20.4 percent in November. Gingrich is the second choice with 25.3 percent, and Romney was third at 17.5 percent.

For months, the Republican elites and corporate media have treated Paul like that cranky old uncle that continues to show up at family gatherings. They’ve tried ignoring him and they’ve tried dismissing him. They’ve been running a continuous communication loop that says, “Ron Paul can’t win.” Yet, here he is, on the cusp of an Iowa victory and showing remarkable strength in New Hampshire.

A common refrain from Republicans is: “I like most of what Ron Paul says, but I can’t vote for him because of his ‘isolationist’ foreign policy.” When they say that, what are they saying?

After all, many Republicans say they can easily vote for Gingrich even though they don’t agree on some of his positions: i.e. infidelity, national database of gun owners, support for the recently passed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that permits the indefinite detention of Americans upon the President’s order, support of cap-and-trade, support of individual mandates to purchase healthcare, support of TARP and bailouts, etc. And many Republicans say they can vote for Romney, the author – essentially — of Obamacare (through his Romneycare), who has flipped and flopped on core Republican issues like a fish in the bottom of a boat. And they say they can vote for Michele Bachmann, who voted for the USA Patriot Act and the NDAA.

They are saying, simply, that they have been so terrorized by their government and the mainstream media they are willing to surrender all their freedom and wealth to the military industrial complex and big government so people in a foreign land can be bombed into submission and subjugation. Years of government propaganda and years of war have cemented in their minds the need for perpetual war.

For my conservative friends who don’t like Paul because of his noninterventionist — because that’s what his policy is, and he describes what that means here — foreign policy, consider how long we have been at war in the Mideast.

America and the CIA have been meddling in the affairs of Middle Eastern countries for decades. Read The Secret History of The American Empire, by John Perkins. In 1990, after an American ambassador hinted to Saddam Hussein that the United States would not stand in his way were he to take over territory that was in dispute between Iraq and Kuwait, President George H.W. Bush and the United Nations formed a coalition to bloody his nose. We have been in a shooting war in the region ever since.

After 21 years of war in the region, are things any better? Apparently not, because the war has expanded from Iraq into Afghanistan, Pakistan and Libya, and it is about to expand into Syria and Iran. And American troops are in Central Africa in an “advisory” role. Yet Americans thirst for more war and the top Republican candidates, according to the elites, are advocating more.

“But,” Republicans say, “Iran is about to get The Bomb. We can’t let Iran get The Bomb!” And how do we know that Iran is about to get The Bomb? From those same people who told us — inaccurately, it turns out — that Iraq was about to acquire nuclear weapons.

Iran, which is OPEC’s second largest oil producer, can’t even refine enough gasoline for its own people. It has no reliable missile system. And we are to believe it’s technologically capable of producing a nuclear weapon?

“But what about Israel?” Republicans then ask. Israel has a couple hundred, at least, nuclear weapons sitting at the ready and is perfectly capable of defending herself.

Consider that there is much more at work here than meets the eye. To understand what is really going on, you must peel back the layers of conventional wisdom, like peeling an onion. There are nefarious maneuverings of nongovernment organizations (NGOs) at work. Few are able to escape their normalcy bias to see this.

The plan for the takeover of the vast oil reserves and riches of the region have been in the works for a long time. NGOs have worked behind the scenes and in secret to shape the policy. But the Brookings Institute became so confident the policy had reached the point of no return that it released its blueprint in 2009.

This is why Presidential candidates are vetted by the Council on Foreign Relations and the Bilderberg group before receiving approval to run. They must sign on to the New World Order to receive the proper backing and financial support. And it’s why the knives will be out in full force in the coming weeks to destroy Paul and his candidacy. (Previously debunked claims of racism surfaced again last week.)

Another question to ask yourself: If a potentially nuclear-armed Iran is such a danger to us, what about an actually nuclear-armed North Korea? Why are we the elites not cowering in fear that North Korea could launch a missile at any second? After all, North Korea actually has a missile that can reach our friends and fellow democracies in South Korea and Japan — and can probably reach portions of the U.S. West Coast.

What about a nuclear-armed Pakistan, which likes us less and less with each drone strike and violation of their territorial integrity?

What about Russia and China, who will be very offended if the United States leads an assault on Iran and Syria? Russia has already stationed warships near Syria, and China is unhappy with President Barack Obama’s military buildup in Australia and is responding by beefing up its military in the Indian Ocean. And you think this militarism is making the United States safer?

Finally, my conservative friends, one last question for you to consider: If Paul’s foreign policy is “crazy,” as many of you say, why have members of the military given more to his campaign than to anyone else’s? Could it be they have seen the dark core that lies beneath?

And before the “Ron Paul can’t beat Obama. We must elect someone who can defeat Obama,” chorus chimes in, a new CNN/ORC International Poll shows Paul faring the same against Obama in a head-to-head matchup as the “more electable” Romney. Gingrich fares far worse.

    Dear ______,

During my entire time in Congress, I have often stood alone.

Whether it was opposing unconstitutional legislation or simply being willing to speak out for our fundamental freedoms on the House floor, there have been countless times when no one was willing to take on the establishment with me.

That's just one reason I'm so grateful to have the support of millions of grassroots patriots like you.

To tell you the truth, I've never needed it more.

Isn't it amazing how nasty and vicious the establishment gets when its talking heads and anointed champions are scared?

It shouldn't come as a surprise, yet I still find myself just shaking my head at the levels to which they're willing to stoop to keep you and me from being able to enjoy the full blessings of freedom.

But you know, there's one key truth we must not forget.

They wouldn't be this angry if we weren't winning.

Quite simply, they know I'm not alone anymore.

Everyday Americans, from small business owners, to stay-at-home moms, to veterans, to young people struggling to get a start on their dreams, are joining with me.

Our campaign is surging just as voters get ready to head to the polls.

As they take deeper looks at my opponents, they're realizing that the other candidates are only offering more of the same.

Whether it's supporting the $700 BILLION TARP bailouts and the individual mandate central to ObamaCare, or failing to stand up for life, or threatening our Second Amendment freedoms, Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich's records leave little to stand out from the policies of Barack Obama.

The American people want - and deserve - real change. And the Republican Party needs to nominate someone who won't have to spend their general election campaign apologizing for their past positions.

We now face one final hurdle before Iowa, and that's the end of the quarter fundraising deadline on December 31.

I'm setting a goal of raising $2 million this week so we can finish this quarter strong.

Please help me reach this important marker.

I know you've been digging deep to give me the resources I need to win, and believe me, your generous contributions are paying off each day with every phone call we make, every piece of mail we send, and every ad spot we purchase.

All of our success would be impossible without your backing.

But there are three major reasons I must be able to count on you this week. *** As we wrap up our campaigning in Iowa and New Hampshire, the schedule only intensifies. Several states, including South Carolina, Florida, and Nevada, are just around the corner, and we can only increase our efforts there and capitalize on our momentum if we reach this $2 million goal.
*** The attack dogs have been unleashed like never before, and I can't continue to counter their lies and get the truth out about my views and consistent record without you.
*** The establishment will be closely watching to see if their heavy assaults have damaged our cause. I want to show them that our resolve is stronger than ever. That for all of their time and energy, they haven't even made a dent in our campaign's march to victory.
So please, give whatever you can today to help our campaign raise $2 million by December 31.

Although I've been in the fight for liberty a long time now, I've never seen a better opportunity for us to take our country back.

I've never seen more people respond so enthusiastically.

I've never felt more hopeful about what we can accomplish.

You and I are about to enter the most exciting election season I can remember.

    And we can win.

    The establishment knows this.

They know I've got millions of reinforcements working every day to change the status quo and get this nation back on track.

And this week, they're watching to see just how determined we are to keep fighting their relentless, desperate onslaught.

Please, donate today and help me remind them that no amount of lies and no amount of their other usual tricks can stop a movement whose time has come.

    For Liberty,

    Ron Paul

P.S. I have set a goal of raising $2 million by the end of the quarter fundraising deadline (December 31) to capitalize on our campaign's momentum so we can continue to get the truth about my record out to the voters and show the establishment that their assaults have failed.

They know I'm not alone, and that I've got millions of reinforcements fighting every day to restore our nation.

Let's prove that our resolve is stronger than ever.

    NYT: ‘Soldiers’ Choice’ Ron Paul

Writes The New York Times’ Timothy Egan:

Representative Ron Paul, the congressman who favors the most minimalist American combat role of any major presidential candidate and who said all of the above quotes, has more financial support from active duty members of the service than any other politician.

As of the last reporting date, at the end of September, Paul leads all candidates by far in donations from service members. This trend has been in place since 2008, when Paul ran for president with a similar stance: calling nonsense at hawk squawk from both parties.

This year, Paul has 10 times the individual donations — totaling $113,739 — from the military as does Mitt Romney. And he has a hundred times more than Newt Gingrich, who sat out the Vietnam War with college deferments and now promises he would strike foes at the slightest provocation.
What seems, at first blush, counterintuitive makes more sense upon further review. There’s a long tradition of military people being attracted to politicians with Paul’s strict interpretation of the Constitution.

Not even a full 1 percent of Americans are active-duty military. The troops have become props for politicians who shower them with fulsome praise, while dreaming up schemes to send them into harm’s way.

Yet, these soldiers, sailors, air men and women, and assorted boots on the ground know the cost — in trauma, in lives ruined, in friends lost, in good intentions gone bad — of going to war far more than the 99 percent not currently serving. Where they put their money in a campaign, paltry though it may be in comparison to the corporate lords who control a majority of our politicians, says a great deal.

And if the overwhelming service support for Ron Paul is any indication, the grunts of American foreign policy are gun-shy about further engagement in “useless wars,” to use Dr. Paul’s term.

“It’s not a good sign when the people doing the fighting are saying, ‘Why are we here?’” said Glen Massie, a Marine Corps veteran who lives in Des Moines, Iowa, and is supporting Paul for president. “They realize they’re being utilized for other purposes — nation building and being world’s policeman — and it’s not what they signed up for…”

The young people who actually fought in Iraq know better. They can tell a phony warrior from a real one. And in Ron Paul, the veteran who served as a flight surgeon for the Air Force, the man some call crazy, they hear a voice of sanity — at least in the realm of war and peace.
