Because Ron Paul backers show up, expect a battle at the GOP convention in Tacoma
Seattle Times editorial columnist Bruce Ramsey outlines the strategy of the Ron Paul forces and predicts a floor fight at the state convention of the Washington State Republican Party.

Ron Paul placed a distant second in the Republican Party's caucuses here March 3. Mitt Romney scored 38 percent and Paul 25 percent. News stories said Romney had "won" Washington, but really he had not. The game is winning delegates, and in a caucus state a candidate needs supporters who will do more than vote.
Washington sends 43 delegates to the national convention in Tampa. Forty of them will be elected at the state Republican convention in Tacoma June 1-2: 10 at large and three for each congressional district. Who wins, says state party Chairman Kirby Wilbur, "depends on who shows up."
Paul supporters are good at showing up. Look at other caucus states:
• Maine — In Paul's best state, he ran a close second to Romney in the vote count. At Maine's convention May 6, the Paul forces swept 21 of the 24 delegates, leaving only three party officials to support Romney.
• Minnesota — In the caucus vote, Paul came in a distant second to Rick Santorum. After the state convention last weekend, Paul had 32 of the 37 delegates.
• Iowa — In the first caucus of 2012, Romney was the reported winner, though the final count went to Santorum. Paul ran a close third. No matter; of the state's 28 delegates, Paul owns 10 already and will have more at the state convention June 16. The Paul forces have taken over the Iowa party leadership.
• Alaska — Paul came in third in the caucus vote — and his supporters have taken over the Alaska party leadership.
Paul has made other post-caucus gains in Michigan, Massachusetts, Louisiana, Colorado and Nevada.
When Paul ran for president four years ago, he didn't do this. He wasn't a party man; he did not endorse the Republican nominee, John McCain, and was not invited to the convention. Paul had his own convention. But this year he wants to speak to Republican delegates and influence their platform.
Why? He is ending a long career in Congress. At 76, he is too old to run for president in 2016.
"Ron knows he'll never be president," says Wilbur. "His son may be." Rand Paul, 49, was elected in 2010 as senator from Kentucky. Rand needs his father's supporters — and they need someone to carry their flag.
Ron Paul is a candidate of ideas. Some of them are not ripe and may never be, but on one question he speaks immediately to the national troubles. He would recast the Republican Party as conservative but opposing foreign war, debt finance and encroachments on civil liberty.
And that would be a change.
Exit polls show Paul running strongest among the young. He has peeled off supporters from the left, bringing in new blood to his cause and maybe to the Republican Party. His following is fervent and not all of them well-mannered. They do stand up for him.
At a Kitsap County Republican meeting, state Chairman Wilbur was taped telling a uncooperative Paulite to "sit down and shut up." Afterward, Wilbur said, "three Ron Paul people came up to me and apologized and said they were not all that way."
After Romney's son Josh was booed in Arizona and Sen. Lisa Murkowski was booed in Alaska, the Paul campaign ordered supporters to behave themselves. Wilbur is happy about that.
He still expects a battle in Tacoma. By congressional district, he says, "Paul is strong in the 3rd, the 6th and the 7th, and Romney is strong in the 1st, 4th, 5th and 8th."
The rest, he adds, "we really don't know."

The Read 2012 Delegate Count Website: TheReal2012DelegateCount

Ron Paul 2012
This website claims to effectively represent "the real delegate count" by not projecting votes like the MSM does. It is the actual count of delegates that is reported to be in one camp or other.
This website has been linked in numerous postings in numerous threads and I thought it would be helpful to have a thread dedicated to this site.
The Real 2012 Delegate Count for the Republican Primaries & Caucuses
The Read 2012 Delegate Count Website: TheReal2012DelegateCount | Peace . Gold . Liberty | Ron Paul 2012
Why "The Real 2012 Delegate Count""?
The answer should be obvious.
The mainstream media is simply not accurately covering the race for delegates in the Republican contest for President. In fact, if you watch network news you would believe that the Republican contest is over. It is not.
At this site we are committed to covering the Republican race for delegates by explaining which candidates have committed delegates in which states. We do not "guess" on how many delegates candidates have. We track the results of state conventions where actual delegates are awarded and we report those results without bias or favor.
This site is updated regularly to keep the most accurate count of delegates. If you have updated numbers or find a discrepency here, please email us at thereal2012delegatecount@gmail.comLast edited by AirborneSapper7; 05-26-2012 at 03:59 AM.

Craig Westover, MN Delegate's Excellent OpEd @ MN Star Tribune: Ignore Ron Paul at your Peril!

Ron Paul 2012
Ron Paul revolution is well beyond the fringe
Article by: CRAIG WESTOVER
Updated: May 25, 2012 - 9:58 PM
Counterpoint
After a lengthy analysis of the Ron Paul influence evident at the Minnesota GOP Convention May 18-19 in St. Cloud ("Libertarian surge remakes state GOP," May 20), the burning question for the Star Tribune Editorial Board was whether "a caucus-based political system that magnifies populist tides [and enabled Paul supporters to dominate the state convention] serves this state well."
Couple that with a harsher Washington Post piece published in full online ("The party of Ron Paul?" May 24) -- which labeled recently adopted planks in the Iowa Republican Party platform "wacky" and "nutty" and gleefully anticipated "a few highly visible fights" erupting over "Paulite positions in the national platform" -- and it's evident the Strib is a more than a little confused about what the Ron Paul revolution is all about.
Let me do what I can to clarify.
First, let's understand what a "movement" or a "revolution" is. All movements -- the Pat Robertson Republican coup in the 1980s, gay rights, women's suffrage, civil rights and, yes, the Ron Paul movement -- follow a common pattern.
Movements all begin at the margins with people who have little or nothing to lose. Unsuccessful movements never expand beyond the sloganeering fringe. Successful movements -- those with an intellectual and moral basis -- mature to attract a mainstream following.

Ron Paul supporters detected Oklahoma GOP gave out Delegates Affidavit forms w/Missing Paragraphs
Submitted by arlenearmy_100 on Sat, 05/26/2012 - 02:09
Delegates
Oklahoma
Things must be pretty bad when a slate of delegates got to cross every "t" and dot every "i". One of the delegates say they want to keep it on the up & up.
Apparently the Oklahoma GOP left out 1 of the last paragraphs on the affidavits that was to be signed by national delegates. So the Ron Paul backed national delegates on the the conservative values slate inserted the missing paragraph. They don't want to take any chances. This tells me that the level of distrust is REAL DEEP.
The Ron Paul backed delegate in this video read to me the paragraph that was missing.
This video was recorded on May 22, 2012 at the Oklahoma GOP headquarters on North Lincoln Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK that was held in separate conference room where the conservative values slate national delegates were allowed to caucus. The conservative values slate of delegates / alternates are mostly Ron Paul supporters. Oklahoma GOP chairman - Matt Pinnell decided to segregate the Executive Committee slate of delegates (along w/ district elected delegates) in another room of the building, where they seemed to had been sequestered. Whereas, the Ron Paul supported slate (Conservative values slate) caucused openly.

RNC might block entire Nevada delegation over Ron Paul delegate mischef

Delegates
Nevada
This was expected. The RNC is afraid, very afraid which tells me Dr. Paul is closer to the nomination than anyone of us might think:
