POLITICO: Ron Paul movement not ready to pass torch to Rand

Ron Paul movement not ready to pass torch to Rand [after today, that's an understatement]

Rand Paul plans to make the case that it is better to work with the GOP establishment.

By JAMES HOHMANN and MANU RAJU | 8/28/12 5:58 PM EDT

TAMPA, Fla.—Rand Paul risks alienating his father’s base as he tries to expand his own.
The Kentucky senator, who speaks at the Republican convention Wednesday night, has a younger face and a softer edge, but his name does not guarantee the loyalty of Ron Paul’s most passionate supporters.

With buzz around a potential run for president in 2016, Ron Paul’s son plans to make the case to delegates that it is better for the movement to work with the GOP establishment rather than from the rebellious fringe. But convincing a libertarian movement that puts a premium on purity to play in the big tent of a major party is a big ask.

Among some supporters of the elder Paul, there are doubts about whether Rand Paul is up to the task of carrying his father’s torch.

Sen. Rand Paul, (R-KY), tells CNBC's Larry Kudlow he is "pretty pleased with how the Romney side cooperated with us." He also offers insight on how the GOP could attract more independent voters.
wonder what his idea of a bad treatment by the RINO Mutt WRONGneyites would look like... especially after the way they treated our beloved Maine R3VOL delegation.

Gary Johnson Campaign Responds to Jesse Benton's Claim That There's "No Chance" of a Ron Paul Endorsement

    Ron Paul 2012

During a conference call with reporters yesterday, Jesse Benton of the Ron Paul campaign said there was "no chance" of Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) endorsing former two-term New Mexico governor and Libertarian Party presidential candidate Gary Johnson.

    From Brian Doherty's report:
While Benton refuses to say Paul will endorse Romney, he believes that "if our ideas are embraced and treated with respect, I think the GOP has a very good change to pick up a substantial number of votes" from Paul people. "If we are treated like in '08, then I think a lot of people will stay home or sit on their hands." Agreed, though I think it will be very hard for a Romney like the Romney of today to pick up many Paul fan votes. The vote is not like matter that can neither be created nor destroyed; Paul invented his vote and without him I think a majority of it will disappear in November.

Benton says there is "no chance" of an endorsement of Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party.
Johnson endorsed Ron Paul in 2008. The press release announcing Johnson's endorsement was titled "'Veto Johnson' endorses 'Dr. No' for president," and was distributed by Jesse Benton. Reason reached out to the Johnson campaign this morning for a response to Benton's announcement. They sent us a statement from Ron Nielson, Johnson's senior advisor:

    The comedy is over.

As expected, this ordeal brought the house down, literally. It will only be a matter of time now I expect. No more soap boxes, no more futile legal tactics or letters to editor; I shall let the people have what they deserve, and I highly recommend you do the same. This small minority might be patient enough to keep trying incrementally, but understand: the overwhelming majority isn't. It's not hard to foresee the probable outcome here.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news for you all, but a few sad hearts and tears from crying kids are not going to dissuade Romney from moving forward. He has what he wants, and he doesn't give a damn about any of you, so stop it. The cognitive dissonance here is unbelievable. Take a little solace in the knowledge that he now has a tiger by the tail and just doesn't know it yet.

In time, when the fleshy viruses we call a population start seeing that nothing changed and in fact gets worse, I doubt even they will be restrained anymore. A few of them are bound to set something off, and then it will be play time. Goodie gumdrops.

I leave you all now with best wishes. Look to your own and keep your eyes on the world. The best is yet to come.

    Ave, atque vale.
    Spero bellum civile internecinum est.

    Lack of independent thought

    Ron Paul 2012

I find we criticise those who blindly follow the establishment as drones, and this is a good critique.

But what I am concerned about is we seem to have a good number of our supporters doing the same. This should be a movement of independent thought. But I'm hearing a lot of folks saying, 'I'm waiting for my orders from Dr. Paul about what to do next', or 'I'll only vote for a candidate Dr. Paul endorses'. Aren't we capable of better than this. Why does Dr. Paul have to hold our hand? I love Dr. Paul, but he is not God.

I'm also surprised by folks who say join the Republican Party even though they broke bones of our supporters and disenfranchised a number of our legally elected delegates. This party is corrupt and cancerous to the core, like the Democrats. I hear that it is an empty vessel that we can use.

No, it has a lot of baggage. The only way this movement works is if we get tons of disgrunted democrats and republicans to join. Don't expect a lot of dems to join a party brand they equate to Bush.

Now you can vote me down, but we need to have a discussion about the future of our great movement.

"In individuals, insanity is rare; in groups, parties, nations, and epochs, it is the rule." - Friedrich Nietzsche

"Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it." - Adolf Hitler

The party was founded out of the violent advocacy of an ideology combining the nationalism of the right and the socialism of the left. Concentration of subservient teachings in Pr
ussian school systems bred a society based on acceptance of violence, mass obedience, and collectivist teachings to reject individuality and self-preservation. Political strategy focused on anti-big business and anti-capitalist rhetoric, although such aspects were later downplayed in order to gain the support of industrial entities. In the midst of the depression, the government restored prosperity and ended mass unemployment using heavy military spending and a mixed economy of free-market and central-planning practices. Extensive public works were undertaken. The leader rapidly established a totalitarian regime. (summary of the establishment of the Nazi party.)
