We need to mention this also. It doesn't specifically address illegal aliens but it ties in:

House Approves Bill Allowing Officers To Photograph Some Drivers

    http://www.wral.com/news/9580987/detail.html

RALEIGH, N.C. -- House lawmakers tentatively approved a measure Wednesday that would allow law enforcement officers to take photographs of drivers unable to produce identification.

Rep. Dale Folwell, R-Forsyth, proposed the bill as a way to combat identity theft, concerned that some unlicensed drivers frequently give false names and information to officers.

The photo would be attached to court files with the driver's violation, which may include an infraction for driving without a license. That way, if the driver gave a false name, the actual person could prove in court that they weren't behind the wheel when the infraction occurred.

"This bill is critical because it will protect victims and help change behavior on the roadside to get people to tell the truth," Folwell said. "It would also lower the costs on our public safety and courts systems."

The measure passed 89-22, with Rep. Mickey Michaux arguing that the bill could lead to discrimination.

"This sure sounds a whole lot like profiling to me," said Michaux, D-Durham. Michaux objected to final approval, meaning the chamber will have to pass the measure a second time.

After that, the measure still must pass through a Senate committee and the Senate chamber as lawmakers push to close the short session.

No thanks needed W. Everyone who did this deserves the thanks. We need to stay strong and be vigilant until this bill goes up for vote.

Wow, sorry Dixie - looks like we were thinking of the same thing at about the same time. I did a quick compilation of a global email list for those outta staters like myself that wanted to send a generic message and contact as many legislators as possible (I know, generic and form-like, but what the heck).

All the legislators in the above list just got my email.

    Just got this reply:

Pat, your right!! We Republicans have done everything we can as the minority party to make NC less attractive to illegal immigrants. For example, in March we submitted a bill that would require evidence of legally being in this country for drivers licenses (S419 by Sen. Berger of Rockingham County which I and several others co- sponsored); and we have requested that community colleges not be allowed to offer in state tuition to illegals (a budget amendment I offered). Neither of these actions was approved by the Democrat majority.
