Bail Reform: Immigrant Charged With Sexually Abusing Minor Released In New York



NEW YORK CITY, NY - On Thursday, Asumana Randolph, 62, was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on multiple child sexual assault charges. His arrest came after an exhaustive investigation, which began in 2018.


The alleged attacks involving more than one girl, reportedly took place at Hunter College High School on Manhattan's Upper East Side, where Randolph worked for 26 years as the science club coach and lab technician.


The New York Post reported:

During the meeting on the Upper East Side campus, Asumana Randolph, 62, allegedly told the girl, who was younger than 17 at the time, that he’d previously had sex with a student at her apartment, according to a criminal complaint.

He said he had similar feelings for her and “asked her in substance if she wanted to have a similar closer relationship,” the complaint states of the alleged creepy come-on that occurred at about noon in his office on Oct. 1, 2018.

Four months later, the former science club coach and lab technician allegedly repeatedly kissed another female student, who was under 17 at the time. The alleged incident happened at about 7 p.m. on school grounds, court papers say.

The school put Randolph on leave once the allegations surfaced, and the Liberian immigrant resigned shortly after school officials recommended “disciplinary charges,” according to Hunter College High School spokeswoman Deborah Raskin.


Randolph has been charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, one count of forcible touching and one count of sexual abuse. He was booked and released without bail.


The District Attorney's Office has yet to offer comment to this reporter, on whether or not Randolph was forced to surrender his passport.
