Junius,
I think you are refering to AZTLAN...the mythical territory claimed to exist by the reconquistas....basically the SW portion of the USA.
For some additional fun reading, google "AZTLAN Plan" and enjoy reading their manifesto.

I am well aware of what Aztlan is. The term Alto California appears as I copied and pasted it from their web site. I was just curious what it means. I have never heard the term alto california before and I was hoping someone could tell me. I really am not a total idiot.

In Spanish Baja means 'lower' and Alto/Alta means 'upper'. Being as they still think CA is a part of Mexico, they have Baja, California, so hence they refer to CA as Alta/Alto, California.

Thanks guys. I was just curious. We have streets here like Alto Mesa which means "upper mesa." I just never saw it in conjunction with CA before. Quite presumptuous of them isn't it?

LOL Charles, we sure do learn something new every day. And some days we learn things we don't necessarily want to know at all.

OK guys my trusted google search gave me this:
Alta California ("Upper California") was formed in 1804 when the province of California, then a part of the Spanish colony of New Spain, was divided in two along the line separating the Franciscan missions in the north from the Dominican missions in the south. The southern part became the territory of Baja California. The two territories were also alternatively called "California Nueva" (Alta; "New California") and "California Vieja" (Baja; "Old California").
