I think the family structure broke down. Either both parents have to work, or the kids are being raised in one parent homes. Role models are gone. Men aren't around to do guy things with their boys, and mothers aren't around to do feminine things with their daughters. It's confusing the kids. It's a shame.

Guys--I feel like I have to be honest here. I'm gay. I stand 100% behind everything I have said on this thread. I have come to kind of "know" some of you on this site and I hope you don't look down on me. I am 40 YO and have come to despise the straight white male bashing I've seen in the press. Maybe that's why I love Terry Anderson so much--he's straight and black and loves this country. I'm white and I love this country. I think most of you, if you met me, would like me. If the Minutemen thing comes to Texas I will be there.

Gay patriots are welcome, just like hispanic patriots... All for one, one for all... We need to work together for the common good of this country.

I think it's interesting that the ballot initiative in Arizona (prop 200) was supported by something like 46% of hispanics... Furthermore, 2nd and 3rd generation hispanics tend to be more against illegal immigration.

Yet, hispanic leaders act as though they represent all hispanics when they support illegal immigration.

    Gay patriots

Oh man, this could really open up a can of worms! Hah. Hopefully, sexually preference is a non-issue to most people nowadays. Maybe I have a jaundiced view. I worked in the porn industry for many years (as a cartoonist and writer, so don't get the wrong idea), and one thing it taught me was that MOST people's sex trips are so screwy that almost nobody I know has grounds for throwing can-openers at other people's tin houses. I've had many gay friends, I've always felt people are just born that way. Anyway, I think this brings up an important secondary point. ONe of the reasons we're in such a quandry these days, what with the profussion of all this politically-correct liberal crap is because so many of these rightwing White Males brought it upon themselves, with their bigoted attacks against gays, blacks, minorities, weirdos, etc. Political-correctdom was a backlash against that. NOW, when we need to win people over on the immigration cause, the right has already alienated so many of these other "minority" types. I can tell you, from my years living in San Francisco, that gays as a group aren't any more "liberal" than any other group -- they've just been forced into that camp from taking so much crap from rightwingers. Same with hispanics, who as a group are extremely CONSERVATIVE and TRADITIONAL FAMILY ORIENTATED, and yet the left has corraled them into their voting block by default. We need to win these people back to the immigration cause -- which has little to do with "racism" (even though we find ourselves with some strange bedfellows in that regard) but with common sense. Mass Immigration is simply a disaster on the PRACTICAL level, and has little to do with the traditional political split of left versus right. Well, aren't I a little gas bag tonight. End of sermonette.

I have a simple question. My sister Desiree is gay. Since she and I share the same set of parents, why is she a minority and I'm not?

    Well

Well, the majority of people are heterosexual, so if someone is gay they're considered in the minority, I guess thats all that it means.

That's fine if you want to use statistics, but my sister and I are biologically related. How can she be a minority and not me? Last time I checked, 'Homosexual' is not a box on government forms. If sexual preference makes you a minority and besides getting in-state tuition for college, is an illegal, gay, Mexican more of a minority than a legal, straight Mexican?

I mean were does it stop? What's wrong with just being an American? All of these hyphenated names creates seperation and hatred. Something I think our political parties want.

    You have a point

Yeah, you have a point. The whole thing is kind of weird when you think about it, all this sexual minority and racial minority stuff. It always strikes me as somewhat odd when I keep hearing Asian-Americans described as a "racial minority group." Asians happen to make up something like 40% of the world's total population. Some minority. So I guess all these terms are relative.

BobC-not trying to offend anyone here.I pay no one's bills but I own.I do not look at people by any standard other than the their own unique content.I have many gay relatives as well as friends,so believe me,gay is neither positive or negative in my opinion.I live in San Francisco where the gay community contributes to making up the personality of a city that is unequalled anywhere else in world.
