But Romney is still better than Giuliani, Huckabee or McCain.

Is that not a sad state of affairs????

Did Tancredo discuss Romney's position on after IAs register, how soon thereafter do they have to go home? This is a crucial queston, as if it is a prolonged period, it de facto becomes a sort of permanent residency program.

Romney campaign spokesman Matt Rhoades said Tuesday: "Gov. Romney has consistently opposed amnesty or any special path to citizenship or permanent residence for those here illegally. To become eligible for permanent residence, he believes they should get at the end of the line with the millions of people who have applied to legally come to the U.S."

So if they have to get to the end of the line, it's important that Romney states what is the set period of time of when they have to go home and get to the back of the line.

It's realism. I would like Tancredo/Hunter, but it's not gonna happen.

In Mitt Romney's mind that 'end of the line' starts right here in the USA.

At 8:00 of the this clip (Meet the Press 12/16/07) Russert began to question Mutt on immigration. It continues over into the next clip.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8CCetOD ... re=related

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JielsvPl ... re=related

Here is the transcript of that section of the interview...

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22273924/page/5/

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22273924/page/6/

I'll post the relevant portion below...

"My own view is consistent with what you saw in the Lowell Sun, that those people who had come here illegally and are in this country--the 12 million or so that are here illegally--should be able to stay sign up for permanent residency or citizenship (that's amnesty folks), but they should not be given a special pathway, a special guarantee that all of them get to say here for the rest of their lives merely by virtue of having come here illegally. And that, I think, is the great flaw in the final bill that came forward from the Senate.

MR. RUSSERT: But they shouldn't have to go home?

GOV. ROMNEY: Well, whether they go home--they should go home eventually. There's a set per--in my view they should be--they should have a set period during which period they, they sign up for application for permanent residency or, or for citizenship. But there's a set period where upon they should return home. And if they've been approved for citizenship or for a permanent residency, well, that would be a different matter. But for the great majority, they'll be going home.

MR. RUSSERT: The children they had born here are U.S. citizens, so do the children stay here and the parents go home?

GOV. ROMNEY: Well, that's a choice, of course, the parents would, would make. But my view is that those 12 million who've come here illegally should be given the opportunity to sign up to stay here (once again, the call for amnesty), but they should not be given any advantage in becoming a permanent resident or citizen by virtue of simply coming here illegally.

And let's also not forget that the TRUE number is closer to 40 million than 12 million, and don't think for a minute that he doesn't know THAT.

Yes, I've read the transcript. These pts need to be clarified: what is the time period they go home, and what is the end of the line (to make sure it's not a brief touchback). Sounds like from what Romney has said, once they go back, they do not get a special pathway -- which is better than Giuliani, McCain and Huckabee.

During the Fox interview, Tancredo said that he sat down with Romney and they discussed EVERYTHING.

He strongly feels that Romney and his plan for illegals----is the best choice!!!
