I think a major problem with the hispanic immigrants (and, they ARE mostly hispanic these days) - legal or illegal - is that they don't want to assimilate to our way of life.

You can't have a strong country if you don't share a common language, common values, etc. Legal immigrants may be treated badly because of their "bad press" from their countrymen who came in illegally, but it could also be that they don't want to learn the language and want us, the taxpayers, to pay for bilingual education (as an example).

Assimilation is a dirty word these days BUT it's really the only way a country stays united and solid. Most countries that try too hard to be diverse in language, values, etc. don't work - they have civil wars.

This is not to say ANYBODY should be treated badly - legal or illegal. The immigrants are not at fault if their country does not try to create jobs and take care of their own. Mexico WANTS to send them to us, and, yes, they DO send lots of money home - it's Mexico's second largest source of income.
