84% of Americans Want Late-Term Abortions Banned, Back Bill to Stop Them After 20 Weeks
NATIONAL STEVEN ERTELT JAN 21, 2015 | 2:00PM WASHINGTON, DC
A new poll released today indicates Americans strongly support legislation that would ban late-term abortions and protect babies who are capable of feeling intense pain during an abortion.
The vast majority of Americans are still very uncomfortable with abortion, according to a new Marist University poll. The survey finds support for abortion restrictions among both “pro-life” and “pro-choice” supporters. Despite the strong support, President Barack Obama has threatened to veto the pro-life bill.
According to the national survey, 84% of Americans want significant restrictions on abortion, and would limit abortions to, at most, the first three months of pregnancy. This includes almost 7 in 10 (69 percent) who identify themselves as “pro-choice” who support such abortion limits and oppose late-term abortions.
The same percentage (84 percent) also says that laws can protect both the well-being of a woman and the life of the unborn. In addition, by more than 20 points (60 percent to 38 percent), Americans say abortion is morally wrong.
“Four decades after Roe v. Wade, the American people remain unhappy with its legacy,” said Knights of Columbus CEO Carl Anderson, head of the group that commissioned Marist University to conduct the poll.
SIGN THE PETITION! Congress Must Ban Abortions Because Babies Feel Intense Pain
He told LifeNews.com: “The survey makes clear that the American people understand that abortion is far too common, and causes great harm. And even those who consider themselves ‘pro-choice’ want it reduced significantly. It is time that our lawmakers respond to this public consensus with appropriate legislation.”
Other key findings of the survey include:
- 64 percent say the nation’s abortion rate is higher than it should be. Only 7 percent thinks it is too low.
- 78 percent support parental notification before a minor can obtain an abortion.
- 68 percent oppose taxpayer funding of abortion, while only 28 percent support it.
- By nearly three to one, Americans see abortion as doing a woman more harm than good in the long run (59 percent to 22 percent).
- By 20 points (57 percent to 37 percent), Americans support proposed legislation that would permit medical professionals and organizations to refuse to provide abortions or refer patients for abortions.
The poll backs up other national surveys showing Americans strongly support the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act that bans abortions from after 20-weeks of pregnancy up to the day of birth.
A national poll by The Polling Company found that, after being informed that there is scientific evidence that unborn children are capable of feeling pain at least by 20 weeks, 64% would support a law banning abortion after 20 weeks, unless the mother’s life was in danger. Only 30% said they would oppose such a law.
A November 2014 poll from Quinnipiac found that 60 percent of Americans support legislation limiting abortions after 20 weeks, including 56 percent of Independents and 46 percent of Democrats.
The new Marist survey of 2,079 adults was conducted Jan. 7 through Jan. 13, 2015, by the Marist Poll. Adults 18 years of age and older residing in the continental United States were interviewed by telephone using live interviewers. Results are statistically significant within ±2.1 percentage points. The error margin increases for cross-tabulations.

So now it's Pain of a Fetus? What about the pain of a young girl or woman during pregnancy and childbirth? Does her pain not count? Guess not. Women are still second class vessels that don't matter and blacks are still stuck in ghettos.

Okay, first off, I don't see what the living conditions of some blacks has to do with this conversation. Secondly, comparing the pain a women has prior to giving birth (something she will eventually move on from) to that a baby experiences prior to an ultimate death isn't the same. Honestly, I find your whole take on late term abortion a little disturbing.

Quiet frankly...I would like to see men be held accountable for their unwanted children, not US Taxpayers. Men have walked away from their children, not supported them, are not in their lives and this has been going on for decades. But no one points the finger at the men...always the woman. Tired of paying for your sex, disgusting.
I would like to see a campaign for free vasectomies and tubal ligations, I would rather pay for that and end these breed and feed programs that go on for generations.
I do not believe in late term abortion...but I also do not want to go back to the days of back alley abortions so there needs to be some middle ground on this.Last edited by Beezer; 11-15-2016 at 11:42 AM.

Abortion is most certainly birth control, it is birth control applied after a woman gets pregnant. The rest of birth control is applied before or during sex in order to prevent pregnancy.
Consider the Pill. The Pill is a scheduled hormone treatment that a woman applies to keep her from getting pregnant. But the details are that the Pill works by inducing menstruation when she does get pregnant. So when a woman who takes the pill has sex, the egg that she has in uterus becomes fertilized -- she gets pregnant -- but her scheduled hormone treatment induces her regular menstruation and the pregnancy she has is flushed.
This imitates a normal process that occurs when a woman who is nursing has sex. If she is feeding an infant her breast milk after giving birth, the related hormones that induce lactation also maintain menstruation and if she is having sex, when she gets pregnant, the pregnancy is flushed out with the menstruation.
The contents of a woman's uterus is not a person in any legal, spiritual or intellectual sense. It is simple ignorant hysteria to suggest otherwise. When a woman gives birth, then you have an infant, something that is on its way to becoming a child, still not really a person.
The controversy over abortion is rooted in the derelict social policies of the Catholic Church who condemns its believers who practice any kind of birth control. Those who take up the cause of being "Pro Life" are vassals to its politics.
If people insist on wallowing in moral outrage over abstract issues surrounding women, why not transgender surgery? Here we have little boys being groomed to be castrated and mutilated on the utterly weird idea that somehow they can be transformed into real women. Any idiot should be able to see this is an atrocity. Iran, the country that hangs homosexuals and astrologers practices transgender surgery, just like we do.Support ALIPAC'sFIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at http://eepurl.com/cktGTn

Your right it's not the same. The pain a woman feels is much worse and goes on for hours. Not all girls and women move on. Hundreds die in the process or from related complications every year, and most of these are black girls and women, and those who don't die face the struggles and hardships of having an unwanted pregnancy carried to term. The total disregard you have for these girls and women is astounding.
The late term abortion which I think is after 26 weeks is the result of many factors, and is a small percentage of the total number of abortions each year. What it boils down to is whose rights and life matters and I stand with the girls and women who for whatever reason have found themselves in a situation where they are facing an unwanted pregnancy they want to terminate, and it should be as it is now, her decision and her decision alone. The earlier it is terminated the better and safer for her, but there are reasons the timing doesn't work out for an earlier procedure. In those instances, she should not be put at risk because of the timing.
There is nothing "disturbing" about it for you. What someone else does with regards to abortion procedures has nothing to do with you or me or anyone else, but the girl or woman involved. It's her life and her decision, or at least it should be in my opinion, because it's none of our business. What she decides to or when she decides to do it, has nothing to do with us, nothing at all, so it seems to me that whether you approve or don't approve is irrelevant and thus no laws should be passed that would force her into childbirth against her will.Last edited by Judy; 11-15-2016 at 03:33 PM.

I guess they didn't take time during the campaign to hear Trump say over and over and over that he's going to repeal AND replace Obamacare with something better. Oh well, I guess they'll find out soon enough.

I never once said anything about pulling in the force of government. But I think I am entitled to express my opinions. The woman's movement and Roe vs Rae was about a lot more than abortion. A woman having rights about her body is about more than abortion. I know I lived it. There was a time when men had the final say on birth control. Woman were dying for having birth complications and having too many births, but the husband wishes were all that counted. A man could beat his wife causing her to have to have a hysterotomy abortion and then turn around and beat her for losing the baby. A man could hold a gun to his wife's head and rape her, only to be told their is no such thing as rape. A woman's body belonged to her husband and we had no say or rights.
I know what it feels like to live in fear and to be told that as a woman I had no rights. I fought the fight, I looked down the barrel of the gun and yes it is very personal to me. I understand the bigger picture, I understand what the "a woman should have the right to make decisions over her own body" means. You or no one is going to lecture me about my views or decency or call me a barbarian.
