Trump Surges To 23-Point Lead In Poll From Clintons’ Former Home State
Trump Surges To 23-Point Lead In Poll From Clintons’ Former Home State
by Jack Davis October 25, 2016 at 8:14am
Voters who have known the Clintons the longest seem to like Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton the least, according to a new poll.
A poll of Arkansas voters released Monday shows Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump leading Clinton by 56 percent to 33 percent.
Several daily tracking polls show Trump in the lead, or the candidates within a few points of each other. A few mainstream media national polls showing Clinton with a wider lead.
In the Talk Business & Politics/Hendrix College survey, Libertarian Gary Johnson was at 4 percent while Green Party candidate Jill Stein was at 2 percent.
“Arkansas voters seem unfazed by Donald Trump’s controversies and the results of this poll reinforce Arkansas’s solidification as a Republican state,” Talk Business & Politics CEO Roby Brock said Monday.
“The strength of these Republican numbers at the top of the ticket could affect turnout and voter preference down-ballot in legislative and local races,” he added.
“Trump leads with all age groups across the state, running particularly well with those in the 30-44 age range. He is also winning in all corners of the state,” commented Jay Barth, professor of political science at Hendrix College.
Barth noted that Trump leads among Arkansas residents regardless of gender or education.
“Clinton does lead with all non-white voters, but Trump runs up a large lead with white Arkansans, which constitute 8 in 10 voters. She also leads with non-churchgoers, a minority of the Arkansas population, but those who are more religiously active support Trump,” he added.
Trump on Monday night implored supporters who flocked to his Tampa, Fla., rally to get out and vote on Election Day.
“Make sure you get out and vote — or this whole movement that they’re all talking about throughout the world, it won’t be the same, folks. We’re not going to do what we want to do,” Trump said.
He continued, “I’m asking you to dream big — remember we used to dream big? — and imagine all the amazing things we can do for our country.”
“Real change begins with fixing our rigged and broken system,” he added.
Trump said the fact Clinton was never indicted for compromising national security through her email scandal ought to be all the proof anyone needs that the system is unfair.
“She never had a chance of being convicted even though everybody in this audience — and boy do we have a lot of people — everybody here knows she is 100 percent guilty. … The best evidence that the system is rigged is the fact that Hillary Clinton, despite her many crimes, was even allowed to run for president in the first place,” he said.
