    DEFENDING THE HOMELAND

    January 8, 2007

Saturday, a group of citizens went to the border with Mexico to back-up the National Guard which is supposed to be backing up the Border Patrol. Their purpose was to enforce the sovereignty of the United States over its territory. Flashpoint was there.

Chris Simcox organized the group and stressed the law that applied to the volunteers and reminded them of their duty to obey the law at all times.

Last Wednesday, there was an incident in which the border was overrun by Mexicans. The Border Patrol and the National Guard were under rules of engagement that did not permit them to defend the border. Instead, they were forced to retreat, abandoning US territory to foreigners.

It wasn't reported anywhere, but the same thing happened Thursday night. Little by little, we are ceding our territory to Mexico as they attack and we retreat. The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps as private citizens is not under rules of engagement that prohibit their firing when attacked. They were on duty over the weekend and hoped to discourage aggression by a show of force.

Officials in Washington take a dim view of citizens defending their own country. They fear an international incident. But these citizens believe there have already been international incidents only we have been getting pushed back.

And the aggressor is not only on one side of the border. Chris Simcox : "The bad guys are on both sides of the border. There are a lot of people, American citizens, on this side that are feeding information to the cartels and work for the cartels and the drug dealers and smugglers. So you know we're going to be watched. . . carefully while we're there. So watch your back, even coming out."

This land these volunteers are defending is our land. It's part of our country. And they plan to defend every square inch of it from the Mexican drug cartels and any other invaders.

Near the border, with the Minutemen, at this Flashpoint. I'm Lionel Waxman.

The more I hear, the more convinced I am that the drug cartels run all countries, and our politicians are just a cover for what is really happening. I think we are exactly like Mexico but on a subdued scale.

Minutemen say Guard 'handcuffed' by current rules of engagement

A close call with gunmen on the Arizona/Mexico border this week has the Minutemen stepping up to back-up National Guard troops stationed there.

The run-in happened Wednesday night near Sasabe.

The Border Patrol says a group of four or five armed men from Mexico approached a border observation point where four soldiers were stationed.

Agents say the group came within 100 yards of the soldiers, but no shots were fired.

There were no attacks and the soldiers were not over-run. The Border Patrol believes the group went back into Mexico.

As a sign of support for the National Guard, the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps hit the border Saturday.

Minuteman Lance Altherr said, "National Guard are under orders to not fire back or defend themselves and they basically had to run and that's unacceptable in our eyes."

The Minutemen, speaking out after the National Guard's brush with armed gunmen along the border near Sasabe.

'If we're approached by anybody like that, armed gunmen, we're not going to run. We're not going to retreat. We're going to hold our ground," Altherr said.

Minutemen leader Chris Simcox said, "We should have thirty to forty thousand National Guard personnel on this border, backed up by a firm edict from the President and the governor of this state that they're going to protect the public safety.'

Until that happens, members of the group say it's their responsibility to protect our country.

Minuteman Gene Cafarelli said, "I've decided that I've only three ways to serve my country anymore: vote, pay taxes, and serve with the Minutemen."

Cafarelli and his men have set up post right here along the U.S./Mexico border.

If you take a look across the desert, you'll see one of those National Guard stations nearby.

The Minutemen set up several posts along the border. With the red, white, and blue serving as a backdrop, they kept their eyes peeled all day and into the night.

The message is to the governor and to the President: Take the handcuffs of the National Guard and let them do their job, which is to defend this nation.

Oh, I believe it. Look at the two border patrol agents who are about to go to prison for a decade. Bush under no circumstances wants our border protected or secured. Bush knows billions of dollars of illegal drugs come over the border every year. Bush knows violent criminals come over from mexico and murder and rape american citizens. And he knows terrorists are also coming over the mexican border and yet he still does nothing. You have to wonder just what Bush's agenda is and exactly who's side he is actually on? Because he is doing exactly the opposite of almost everything he should be doing.
So true Hawkeye, he knows exactly what he is doing or not doing and he is rubbing it in all our faces, because he believes us to be powerless.

National Guard are armed in Iraq patrolling it's border and they should be armed on our border. The situation is the same. Drugs smugglers from south of the border are doing us harm with drugs. Illegals comming across is doing us harm also.

SO true Dyehard, It does not make any sense. It is if our government does no want the border protected and at times makes small efforts to "appear it does" only to undo any progress. It is insulting to we Americans intelligence for them to think we are believing/buying any of this bull.
