Immigrant Groups: Deportations Up Under Obama

WASHINGTON – Immigration rights activists said Monday that deportations have jumped nearly 50 percent under President Barack Obama despite a pledge by the president for a more compassionate immigration policy.

A total of 387,790 people were deported from the United States in 2009, up from 264,503 under the administration of President George W. Bush, according to government figures cited by the Fair Immigration Reform Movement, a coalition of several organizations.

"We are asking President Obama for an immediate halt to deportations and to show leadership to advance immigration reform," said Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles.

"This is not sound economic policy or moral policy, this is not leadership nor change we can believe in," said Pramila Jayapal, executive director of One America, one of the groups participating.

"We expect more, we expect the president to order the administration to stop the deportations and demonstrate leadership on passing immigration reform."

The groups at Monday's news conference plan a march on March 21 in Washington to revive efforts for immigration reform.

359,455 were repatriated to Mexico.

If we got all our local, county and state law enforcement officers involved in this law enforcement effort, then we would see deportation numbers shoot up accordingly and get this problem solved post haste once and for all, then Border Patrol can focus on securing the border to keep them out and ICE can pursue the security of our ports and the few that get through Border Patrol.

Well, of course they did and brought another load of friends, family and drugs with them hoping for the promise of amnesty, free health care and more jobs. Because of course, the promises are being made from the White House on down and border patrol agents trying to keep them out are being sent to prison.

This is misleading and no doubt part of the pro-amnesty marketing push to make it seem as if Obama is actually enforcing our immigration laws which he is not. So do not be fooled by this "false" complaining from the open borders crowd.

The important points are that there are still 11+ million illegal aliens in our country, including about 7-8 million illegal workers, our southern border is still wide open with many more illegal aliens successfully sneaking in rather than getting caught (with still a huge number of visa overstays), and Obama has stopped almost all effective workplace enforcement.

Exactly. And there's far more than 11 million of them because there's more than 12 million of them in California.
