Well, Patriot Dreams. I beg to differ with you. I have seen this card and it identifies them as a Mormon, and when they produce it they get discounts. I didn't say this was a nation wide thing. I said it happens right here where I live.

And I am not tearing down anyone's religion. I was stating a fact. My doctor, who has also been my friend for over 20 years, is also a Mormon, and we have had a lot of conversations about this. I am only saying what I have seen and heard. Not a big deal, certainly nothing to get all bent about.

Then that food is prepaid. Mormons have there own welfare system. If this card is presented and it is not coming out of the welfare system but the church's money then what is the crime?

And don't tell me Mormons don't go to the grocery store. They certainly do right here.

It may simply be that he is helping out families in distress. There is no Mormon Retail discount program. Retailers are legally allowed to discount to anyone they wish.

Yes Mormon's take care of their own, BUT they don't need a retail store to do so. The Mormon Church has huge facilities to help Members that are in financial crisis, they are called the bishop's storehouse. They are like a supermarket, but you do have to be qualified as in need by a local bishop.

There, a member dealing with financial struggles can get food for FREE. Yes they do have to also go there & donate time giving service to the welfare system to "earn" the benefits, but it isn't a dollar amount corrolation.

They get what they need for their family, & work to give service back. Then when they are on their feet, they will probably donate money back to the church welfare program to repay what was provided to them to help others. No bill is ever sent, it is simply let your conscience be your guide. this allows them to employ people that due to disabilities might be unemployable, & to buy goods that are needed for their programs.

The Mormon church as a welfare system that the US govt should study.

There is no Mormon Discount Card.

    Where do you live idaho?
And, this is NO different than the Catholic Church taking care of its own members.

Page, I didn't say it was a crime, but it's disheartening that you have to be a Mormon to get a discount in one of our town's biggest grocery stores. Mormons aren't poor. I know many of them making a helluva alot more than I ever did and all I'm saying is that you get priveleges if your a Mormon.

And, some of the priests in the Catholic Church have been caught molesting boys-----does that mean all priests molest boys-----or every Catholic Church has child molestors??

    Your statements are unbelievable!!

Did you not see any of the previous posts about this??

I would think that this site would not support racist/bigot types of remarks.

TB, Paige is correct. The card you refer to is used by the bishop's stores for people in financial crisis and need food. You can get one by volunteering to work in these stores; however, as Paige stated, these stores are owned by the church.
If this store did cater to a mormon customer simply because the store owner is LDS, that is their choice and has nothing to do with the mormon church in general.
I am a mormon and this is the only card I've ever seen mormons carry identifying them as being mormons.
