Update from NumbersUSA
FRIENDS, THESE SENATE OFFICE CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!
More than a dozen Senate offices are trying to make you happy by telling you when you call that their Senator will vote NO on the DREAM Act Amnesty.
But those same offices aren't willing to tell our Capitol Hill Team -- whom they know and talk to on a regular basis -- that they will vote NO.
What does that say to you?
To me, it says they are reserving the right to give a YES vote in trade for something on another issue. Or that they are hoping there won't be a vote and they can end up sort of satisfying both the pro-amnesty and the anti-amnesty crowd.
This Alert is especially for those of you who are being told of a NO vote on the phone but you still see your Senator on our Home page.
You need to confront them about why they are refusing to publicly commit to a NO vote.
Although it probably is true that they are leaning strongly against the DREAM Act Amnesty, their unwillingness to publicly commit is encouraging the Senate Democratic leadership to go ahead and bring the amnesty to a vote.
If we could get the NO pledges up into the 30s today, there is a good chance that Senate Majority Leader Reid (D-Nev.) and Whip Durbin (D-Ill.) would just skip the amnesty amendment.
Call the Senate switchboard at:
202-224-3121
Call any Senator from your state on the Waffler list.
If you don't have one, then call a waffler Senator from a nearby state that has a small population since they probably are not getting as many phone calls as they need.
KEEP PRESSING YOUR DEMOCRATIC SENATORS
Unfortunately, most of the Democratic Senators will vote YES on the amnesty if it comes up, because that is the Party Line. But we know that about a dozen are leaning toward a NO vote.
And we know many others would rather just skip the vote altogether.
Your pressure on their offices -- even if you get rude responses and they show no interest -- will really help push those Senators behind closed doors to ask Democratic leadership to not bring the amnesty amendment to the floor.I stay current on Americans for Legal Immigration PAC's fight to Secure Our Border and Send Illegals Home via E-mail Alerts (CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP)

The senators noted below supported amnesty in June and show every sign of voting for amnesty again this week. They have been blasted all summer for their anti-American worker, pro-lawlessness stance. Perhaps your phone calls today can help them decide against voting for amnesty again.

Called Ensign's they said he voted against it in the past and probably would this time but no statement available. DHS comments were important.

Dear Ms. (fedupDeb):
Thank you for contacting me about legislation that would make it easier for states to offer in-state college tuition to illegal aliens. I appreciate hearing from you about this issue.
Legislation has been purposed on several occasions that would make it easier for each state to decide whether or not to offer in-state tuition rates to undocumented immigrants who grew up in the U.S. This legislation is commonly known as the DREAM Act (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act). If this proposal became law, the Maryland legislature would have to pass legislation specifying which Maryland resident would be eligible for in-state tuition rates.
I want you to know that your views on this proposal will be very helpful to me as the Senate continues to discuss immigration reform.
Thanks again for getting in touch with me. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance to you in the future.
Sincerely,
Barbara A. Mikulski
United States Senator

We're gonna get Coburn to vote NO. He hasn't issued a public statement but his staffer said he would vote NO as he has been consistently against all amnesties in the past. Just to make sure, I said get him today's Washington Post Editorial on the DREAM Act and the DHS opposition to it.

Going up and down the list this morning. I am very angry that some will not committ publicly. Just like last time.
We need to continue to hammer away at the Senators and defeat this nigtmare act!!
Keep up the good work.
Keep working hard!
Remind them that the DHS does NOT support this amendment and give them the reasons why. Ask them why they are considering this amendment when has nothing to do with the Defense bill?!?!
Put them on the spot. Tell them using our Soldiers as cover is crap and we are fully aware of what they are trying to do!!
Drive the point home!
We will defeat this bill, again!
