Make Your Own Liqueur Part II-Coffee Liqueur from the Home Kitchen

    Posted on September 28, 2011
    by SurvivalWoman

Last week I shared a recipe for making a fruit liqueur using up all of those end of season fruits. Oh my gosh – I received a ton of e-mails. That made me realize that I have been slacking on my goal of providing articles relating to a stylish, yet frugal lifestyle. Also as I wrote last week, it reminded me that we all need to take a break from our prepping to do something fun, something interesting, and something just for the heck of it.

    This week’s “embrace the momentâ€

Killing the Cooties-Good Hygiene is a Survival Skill We All Should Practice

    Posted on September 26, 2011
    by SurvivalWoman

A lot of information has been written about the need to have water for survival. And luckily, most people have gotten the message and either store extra water in barrels, have cases or jugs of bottled water, or have a source of fresh water than can be purified with chemicals of bleach.

Not mentioned, though, is the need to have water to use for washing your hands. Soap and water is the tried and true way to get rid of the cooties – or germs – lurking in our environment. But what if water is scarce with not a drop to spare? The good news is that there is an arsenal of other products that can be used to exterminate those nasty microbes.

Hand Sanitizer: Alcohol based sanitizing gels kill 99% of bacteria on contact. These gels are inexpensive, light weight, have a long shelf life and are cinch to use. For maximum effectiveness, apply the hand sanitizer to one palm then rub hands together until they are dry, making sure you cover all parts of your hands and fingers.

What’s not to like? Well, for one thing, you need to know what you are using. Look carefully at the label before you purchase a hand sanitizer and make sure the active ingredients include ethyl alcohol, ethanol, isopropanol or some other variation of these item. The other important thing is to make sure that whichever of those alcohols is listed, its concentration is between 60 and 95 percent. Less than that isn’t enough to be effective.

Beware, also of homemade hand sanitizers. Unless the concentration of alcohol is 60% or more, don’t count on it for protection.

Household Disinfectant Wipes: I am not a big fan of household disinfectant wipes because they are expensive and environmentally unfriendly since they are typically over packaged and are good for a single use only. These wipes remove bacteria but do not kill it. That means if you use a wipe on a germy surface, it needs to be tossed since using it again on a second surface would merely spread the germs around.

Bleach: I don’t think you would want to use bleach on your hands but for general household sanitation, bleach is a winner. A good dilution is about 3/4 tsp per quart of water. More than that is a waste and not necessarily better. Just be careful or you might accidentally tie dye your clothing, your towels, and your carpeting with splatters of bleach. Also be sure to rinse well since bleach is very caustic.

Tip? Pour some bleach in to a refillable, leak proof squeeze bottle and keep it under your sink. You can easily mix up a batch of bleach and water in a small cup for immediate use without fear of drips or spills – and without a lot of waste.

Moist Hand Towelettes: Those little towelettes that come in individually wrapped packets are great in that you can carry them in a pocket, a wallet, or even tucked in to your hiking boots. Just make sure that the active ingredient meets the 60% or more alcohol criteria. My favorites are Sani-Hands with 65.9% ethanol.

Warning: these towelettes do have a shelf life. This is due to the packaging. The last thing you want to do is to store away a case of these little packets for SHTF only to open one up and find it is dried up. Or worse, it may clean your hands but not get rid of the germs. One thing I did was call the Sani-hands folks using the 800 number on the box and asked about the shelf life. They told me “at least two yearsâ€

If SHTF, Could You and Would You Shoot Someone?

The following article has been graciously contributed for your reading pleasure by Gaye Levy, the Survival Woman, of Backdoor Survival.

For most of us, our home is our refuge. There is even an old proverb: a man’s home is his castle. But what happens if there is an intruder? Or worse, an intruder whose intent is bodily harm toward you or your family members regardless of the reason? How would you defend yourself and, more specifically, would you shoot someone? Could you shoot someone?

I have struggled with the answer to these questions and more, because, if there were a collapse of society – a true SHTF situation – there is a strong likelihood that I would be placed in a position to defend myself, my homestead and my stuff. And therein lies the problem. I am not at all sure I could shoot someone. As a matter of fact, I am pretty sure I could not.

There, I said it. For in spite of the fact that we have shopped for a suitable weapon for someone of my size and gender, and in spite of the fact I have researched classes and shooting ranges where I could practice and become proficient, I personally do not think I could not do it.

And you know what? My informal poll of others – both men and women – has told me that about 50% of us – if we dig down deep – feel the same way. I could not shoot with the intent to harm.

Sure, I know that shooting someone is not the question. The question really is “Can you safely defend yourself and your family against a life threatening situation or attack?â€

27 Years: No Deaths from Vitamins 3 Million from Prescription Drugs

    Anthony Gucciardi

Over the past 27 years — the complete timeframe that the data has been available — there have been 0 deaths as a result of vitamins and over 3 million deaths related to prescription drug use. In fact, going back 54 years there have only been 11 claims of vitamin-related death, all of which provided no substantial evidence to link vitamins to the cause of death. The news comes after a recent statistically analysis found that pharmaceutical drug deaths now outnumber traffic fatalities in the US.

In 2009, drugs exceeded the amount of traffic-related deaths, killing at least 37,485 people nationwide.

The findings go against the claims of mainstream medical ‘experts’ and mainstream media outlets who often push the idea that multivitamins are detrimental to your health, and that prescription drugs are the only science-backed option to improving your health. While essential nutrients like vitamin D are continually being shown to slash your risk of disease such as diabetes and cancer, prescription pharmaceuticals are continually being linked to such conditions. In fact, the top-selling therapeutic class pharmaceutical drug has been tied to the development of diabetes and even suicide, and whistleblowers are just now starting to speak out despite studies as far back as the 80s highlighting the risks.

Mainstream medical health officials were recently forced to speak out over the danger of antipsychotic drugs, which millions of children have been prescribed since 2009. U.S. pediatric health advisers blew the whistle over the fact that these pharmaceuticals can lead to diabetes and even suicide, the very thing they aim to prevent. What is even more troubling is that half of all Americans will be diagnosed with a mental condition during their lifetime thanks to lack of diagnosis guidelines currently set by the medical establishment, of which many cases will lead to the prescription of antipsychotics and other similar medications.

    Covering up the side effects

In order to protect sales, the link between suicide and antipsychotic drugs was completely covered up by Eli Lilly & Co, the makers of Prozac. Despite research stretching as far back as the 1980s finding that Prozac actually leads to suicide, the company managed to hide the evidence until a Harvard psychiatrist leaked the information into the press. The psychiatrist, Martin Teicher, stated that the American people were being treated like guinea pigs in a massive pharmaceutical experiment.

Greedy and oftentimes prescription-happy doctors are handing out antipsychotic medication like candy to adults and young children alike. In 2008, antipsychotics became the top-selling therapeutic class prescription drug in the United States and grossing over $14 billion in sales.

Antipsychotic drugs are not the only dangerous pharmaceuticals. The average drug label contains 70 side effects, though many popular pharmaceuticals have been found to contain 100 to 125. Some drugs, prescribed by doctors to supposedly improve your health, come with over 525 negative reactions.

Ritalin, for example, has been linked to conditions including:

    • Increased blood pressure
    • Increased heart rate
    • Increased body temperature
    • Increased alertness
    • Suppressed appetite
Perhaps the hundreds of negative side effects is part of the reason why the FDA announced last year that it is pulling more than 500 cold and allergy off the market due to health concerns. Prescription drugs kill more people than traffic accidents, and come with up to 525 negative side effects. Avoiding these drugs and utilizing high quality organic alternatives like whole food-based multivitamins and green superfoods will lead to a total health transformation without harsh side effects and an exponentially increased death risk.

Finland: Children Will Require Lifetime Medical Care After Swine Flu Vaccine

Finland vows care for narcolepsy kids who had swine flu shot

    (AFP) – Oct 5, 2011

HELSINKI — The Finnish government and major insurance companies announced Wednesday they will pay for lifetime medical care for children diagnosed with narcolepsy after receiving the swine flu vaccine.

"The compensation will provide much-needed financial assistance for the families, although it cannot take away the emotional distress caused by this condition," Social Services and Health Minister Paula Risikko said in a statement.

Finnish and international researchers recently found a conclusive link between the Pandemrix swine flu vaccine and new cases of narcolepsy, a chronic nervous system disorder which causes people to often uncontrollably fall asleep.

The Finnish Pharmaceutical Insurance Pool (LVP), which represents insurance companies, said Wednesday it would honour all insurance claims in this category.

LVP said it would review each claim individually to calculate the scope of the payout.

The Finnish government meanwhile agreed to cover any medical costs exceeding the insurance claims.

In Finland, 79 children between the ages of four and 19 developed narcolepsy after receiving the Pandemrix vaccine in 2009 and 2010.

Of these cases, an unusually high number, 76, also suffered from bouts of cataplexy, suffering hallucinations or paralysing physical collapses, according to Finnish research.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT: BE PREPARED AND ARMED
    PART 3

    By John Longenecker
    October 9, 2011
    NewsWithViews.com

Survival is an attitude. It must be a superior attitude. It is the stance adjustment that situations external have changed so substantially that your life is threatened, and the very first thing to change is your threat assessment abilities.

Survival is the serious-minded approach to the natural and man-made forces now against you and to keep that attitude for the duration. It’s a good skill to acquire and to keep.

If you are facing a hurricane, you are about to endure a force which is against you. Inclement weather doesn’t care about life, property values, the shape of the earth, the condition of the soil, the monetary system, electrical grid or food supply. It is what it is. As a force of nature, it is indifferent. One can often survive the weather, but what about other things the disaster brings?

In time of crisis, there are other foes Americans will face, and your threat assessment has to be right on. It is a condition of repeated assaults where the enemy can repeatedly afford to be wrong and you cannot afford to be wrong even once. In Parts I and II, we talked about scavengers, the predators who had normally been restrained by society, but who came out of the shadows and opportunistically strike using the disaster itself as cover. Some of these people believe the conditions are even a sort of permission, as in the case of riotings and sweeping crimes. They believe the system will be sufficiently choked to make detection as hard as apprehension, so they are emboldened. Oftentimes, they are right. They escape both discovery and arrest.

This segment describes yet another foe, another opportunist, this one political. This foe, too, is indifferent to man. This one, too, is using the crisis as cover for seizing opportunities. This one, too, believes it has ‘permission’ to act. It sometimes refers to that as a Mandate.

Put another way, our definition of survival is where you come out alive and well on the other side of the disaster and your sovereignty and freedoms come out alive and well with you.

    The Bureaucracies as Opportunistic
We know that bureaucrats never let a good crisis go to waste. I try not to let chocolate go to waist. We also are coming to learn more and more about the gleeful attitude of bureaucrats who lick their chops at every prospect of intervention. It is becoming so commonplace now that it is blatant. Whether hostile to the people or innocently mistaken, the outcome is the same. The citizen is frozen out of the disaster planning, disaster management and disaster recovery.

In poring over several treatises on international disaster management, the emphasis is on EMS and other concepts. First-aid, mobilized definitive medical care and transport into the system are all vital, no question about it. But, must it be conducted to the exclusion of the citizen volunteers who were there first? This is all too common, and it becomes an ingredient in a recipe for statism.

Discussions and forums are all about how bureaucracies strive to educate the public instead of taking a lesson from the public. This is the group-think of the public servant. In reading these, I see that it is another situation of bureaucrats consulting other bureaucrats, a practice I have named on the habit of college trustees consulting police regarding guns on campus. It’s easy to locate another cloistered viewpoint to fortify your own, but this excludes the input from the very people the trustees (and police) were sworn to serve. One cannot serve the public if one ignores the public in all except who pays for it all.

Even today, bureaucrats broadly remain puzzled as to why civilians criticize them so. Public servants remain puzzled as to why they cannot get through to taxpayers. Officials remain puzzled as to why civilians battle them, and they remain puzzled as to why they do not furnish suggestions.

In truth, civilians do furnish suggestions, but the mind-set of the bureaucrat cannot comprehend them. Why not? Because the mind-set of the official sees themselves as part of the neutral, conventional picture instead of part of the problem: excluding the people as an asset (volunteers) and viewing the people only as an opportunity (looting the nation in transfers of wealth). They see themselves as smarter, more central to information, more assets, more fire-in-the-belly anxious to help, and simply filter out the truth that they are not as needed as they believe they are. Cooperation would ensue if they stopped talking and started listening.

This ‘competition’ with the electorate as it has been proposed is getting to be widespread as a practice. It is an insistence that the State run things and simply filter out how civilians have run things rather well with smaller government long before the fire-in-the-belly. Called ‘tinkering’ by some very kindly observers, it is more of a blueprinted social engineering for gain, a rather unwelcome movement over the decades.

Disasters furnish an opening in dissuading the electorate from such self-reliance knowledge and true preparedness in their personal independence values. Independence is discouraged by a sort of illicit use of force for political change, including white papers and bulletins characterizing preparedness groups as anti-government. Citizen resentment of official heavy-handedness baffles officials, and it is met with indignant servant anger, even retaliation. Individuals who know they don’t have to put up with offensive insistence from their servants are branded.

When citizens are armed in time of disaster, the intention is not to battle troops who may illegally come for the guns (that has been made even more illegal since the Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act of 2006, an act of Congress): it is much more to get a handle on immediate, local criminal violence such that crime cannot be used as a ‘crisis’ with which to impose further and further costly bureaucracies. This is how we lose our sovereignty in time of disaster as well as by other avenues. Allow a crisis within a crisis and some citizens can be convinced that we need more gun control, or that shortages are somehow unavoidable, or that we need more police or crackdowns.

Stopping crime and making it a non-issue in time of disaster is how we impeach the gun control propositions as utterly unneeded. Having the freedom of movement to prepare with plenty of supplies will also go a long way in protecting your sovereignty. The more independent of servants you are, the more your sovereignty is respected by the servants. And less independent of the electorate are the servants of the people.

The worst fate for an official is to be unneeded. Redundant. Irrelevant is a word I hear. The best thing for an official is to have shared values with constituents. Only then is an official really needed at all.
One of the best disaster preparedness models, then, is to elect the better candidates for all offices in 2012. Think shared values. Think integrity. Think tests of sovereignty knowledge and official support for the sovereignty of the people as supreme authority.

The best plan for our sovereignty to survive along with us on the other side of a disaster is to have the right people in office long before disaster strikes. Some of us believe we can even avert some kinds of disasters with the right people in office.

Pioneer Admits Adding Cancer-Causing Virus To Vaccine

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13QiSV_l ... e=youtu.be

    Apr 18, 2011

In this interview Dr. Maurice Hilleman reveals some astounding revelations. He admits that Merck drug company vaccines (Polio) had been deliberately contaminated with SV40, a cancer-causing monkey virus from 1953 - 63.

For years, researchers suggested that millions of vials of polio vaccine, contaminated with SV40, infected individuals which caused human tumors, and by 1999, molecular evidence of SV40 infections were showing up in children born after 1982. Some experts now suggest the virus may have remained in the polio vaccine until as late as 1999.

In 2002, the journal Lancet published compelling evidence that contaminated polio vaccine was responsible for up to half of the 55,000 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma cases that were occurring each year. And there is the likelihood that there was an importing and spreading of the AIDS virus in the same manner, as revealed in the video.

At first no one could fathom how the virus had been transmitted into the human population, but this shocking video proves that it was deliberately added to the vaccine by Dr. Maurice Hilleman, which was "good science" at that time.

Just Who is Dr. Maurice Hilleman?

Now, for those of you who may think Dr. Hilleman was just another crackpot (he passed away in 2005), think again. He was, and still is, the leading vaccine pioneer in the history of vaccines. He developed more than three dozen vaccines—more than any other scientist in history—and was the developer of Merck's vaccine program.

He was a member of the U.S. National Academy of Science, the Institute of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society, and received a special lifetime achievement award from the World Health Organization.

When he was chief of the Department of Respiratory Diseases with what's now the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, he discovered the genetic changes that occur when the influenza virus mutates, known as shift and drift. He was also one of the early vaccine pioneers to warn about the possibility that simian viruses might contaminate vaccines. So Dr. Hilleman knew what he was talking about. And in his own words, "vaccines have to be considered the bargain basement technology for the 20th Century."

Another Victory Over UN Agenda 21 Local ICLEI Program

VICTORY AGAIN – in CLALLAM COUNTY (WA)! the CITY of SEQUIM DECIDES NOT to RENEW ITS ICLEI MEMBERSHIP!

    Posted on 08 October 2011.

Although it would be a complete victory if Clallam County had renounced sustainable development, the city of Sequim did in deed decide not to renew their membership in ICLEI! We’re adding it to the Wall of Honor!
Here’s one report from a blog, another from the Freedom Foundation, and a third confirmation from the local media!
Although Sequim is listed as a member on the ICLEI website, City Manager Steve Burkett said Sequim’s membership has expired.
“I decided we weren’t going to continue our membership,” Burkett said in a Tuesday phone interview.
“Our membership expired, I think, at the end of August, and we don’t have plans to continue it.”
Now only Port Townsend and the county of Clallam are ICLEI members in this area! The protests I blogged about may have well have an effect. Keep up the fight!
