"Washington (CNN) - The Republican National Committee is brushing off a lawsuit against the party by Ron Paul supporters as "frivolous" but it is nonetheless coordinating a "joint defense" effort to fight the legal challenge, according to an internal RNC memorandum obtained by CNN Tuesday."

Ron Paul Supporters Will Fight Forever

June 19, 2012 by Sam Rolley

    UPI FILE
Ron Paul is working to energize his delegates for the Republican National Convention.

Ron Paul spoke to his supporters last week and urged them not to give up demanding that the ideals of the Revolution he has helped to spark become main staples of the Republican platform when the party meets in Tampa, Fla., in August. But for many of Paul’s supporters, giving up has never been an option anyway.

In a video address last Friday, Paul sought to get his delegates ready for what will be the climax of his entire campaign when the Republican National Convention begins on Aug. 27. In the days following the convention’s kickoff, Paul’s delegates will have the chance to change the GOP in ways that suit their mission regardless of the Party’s pick.

Paul is urging delegates and supporters who will be in Tampa to gather on Aug. 26, the day before the convention starts, for a rally to organize in anticipation of the events taking place the following week.

“[The rally] will celebrate what we have done and to urge on and encourage all the delegates who will do their job at the convention, fight for our values, influence the platform and do whatever we can to promote the cause of liberty,” Paul said.

The candidate also expressed the importance of his supporters showing up in large numbers for this event to let the Republican establishment know that his contingent refuses to be ignored.

Paul’s supporters, who have seen several ups and downs during the campaign season, continue to work feverishly throughout the Nation to further their cause. Often, their enthusiasm in getting involved in GOP politics gives the impression that the establishment is getting annoyed.

Though the national media spent little time covering the events that unfolded at the GOP state convention in Louisiana, Paul supporters who attended the event say old guard Republicans in that State blatantly tried to silence them. According to a report from The Times-Picayune, GOP officials, worried that Paul’s supporters would hijack the event, changed party rules in the days preceding the convention and arranged for nine off-duty police officers and several plainclothes state troopers to attend the event for security.

According to the news report, the additional security was provided because the State’s GOP had received a tip that Paul’s supporters had “retained a militia.” But Paul supporter Nick Soniat tells the story a little differently.

“What they called a militia was actually two guys that we asked to attend to stand around our chairperson, because we knew that they [the GOP] were arranging private security, and we feared that they would simply remove our people,” Soniat told Personal Liberty. “But they were asked not to enter the room. So we spoke to the state troopers to ensure that no one would attempt to remove speakers as long as they acted within the rules. We were assured that they would not.”

The convention reportedly then denigrated into chaos. The result and the cause are explained in two different ways: one from the perspective of Paul supporters and one from GOP loyalists.

Ellen Davis, a Paul delegate, writes in a letter to the Louisiana GOP:

“You claim that the violence committed against representatives of the majority of convention delegates was justified because you were simply enforcing the convention rules. Those supplemental convention rules were adopted in a PRIVATE meeting held two days before the state convention in Shreveport.

They entirely changed the scope of the agreed upon rules submitted to the Republican National Committee in October of last year.”

Paul’s supporters in the State claim — with convincing video evidence to back them — that the GOP’s hired officers assaulted the first Paul delegate to the convention, putting him to the ground and breaking his fingers in the process. Davis says the man, Henry Herford, was then arrested without ever being told he was violating the law. Herford was charged with the misdemeanor crime of entering and remaining after being forbidden.

Following Herford’s arrest, the delegates proceeded to elect a new chair and continued with the business of the convention. They reportedly elected a slate of 27 Paul supporters to fill 12 of the 18 district delegate slots and 15 of 20 at-large delegate slots, before certifying the results with the RNC. At the same time, State party leaders held their own convention in one corner of the room with about 30 delegates in attendance that had either been certified by the Mitt Romney or Rick Santorum campaigns. Local media are reporting that the minority convention also elected a slate of delegates. Paul supporters and the Louisiana State GOP will likely not know whose delegates will represent the State until the national Republican Party’s contest committee determines the legitimate delegation.

The Republican Party’s “antics,” as they were described in Louisiana, have become a common gripe among Paul supporters. So much so that a large number of delegates represented by the law firm of Gilbert & Marlowe in Santa Ana, Calif., filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California asking the court to decide:

[W]hether Plaintiffs are free to vote their conscience on the first and all ballots at the Federal Election known as the Republican National Convention or whether Plaintiffs are bound to vote for a particular candidate as instructed by Defendants’ State Party Bylaws, or State Laws, or the preference of political operatives.
The chairmen of every State’s Republican Party, as well as the State parties, are named as defendants in the case.

The plaintiffs’ lead attorney, Richard Gilbert, explained his clients’ motivation to Courthouse News: “When nominating someone for a federal office, all delegates must be free to vote their conscience. They don’t want to be bound to any candidate, or even be forced to vote for the nominee. To have a real convention, the delegates must have free will so that when they meet, they can persuade each other and then decide who to vote for.”

Gilbert said that GOP chairmen and organizers have changed the rules immediately before a convention — like in Louisiana — “and sometimes in the middle of one” to block the existence of a quorum or to “rig an outcome.”

Before a judge could rule a hearing or an injunction in the case, however, it must be determined whether a State nominating convention qualifies as a “Federal” election for purposes of applying Federal election and voting laws and that all of the named plaintiffs are indeed delegates to the national convention.

Despite the controversy that continues around the Paul campaign as the RNC draws near, it continues to realize delegate victories throughout the Nation. His supporters have taken over State Republican conventions in Nevada and Maine, and had a strong showing this weekend in Iowa.

With 100,000 supporters and a strong number of delegates expected to arrive in Tampa in August, Paul is certain his backers have a major chance to reshape aspects of the Republican Party. His success in doing so could mean that even if shaping the Party platform at the RNC is one of his last political undertakings, GOP officials will be in the company of people who appreciate the political philosophy he popularized for years to come.

Iowa Republicans elect Paul-heavy slate of delegates

Submitted by spacehabitats on Mon, 06/18/2012 - 08:05

Here are excerpts from the Des Moines Register article:

Iowa Republicans elect Paul-heavy slate of delegates

By far, the majority will be Paul supporters — much to the disappointment of some Iowa Republicans who wanted to send a more mixed “unity” delegation to vote for all-but-certain nominee Mitt Romney.

Some Republicans said it’s an embarrassment for Paul, who finished third in the Iowa caucuses, to get the most delegates. They also worry all the in-fighting could hurt Iowa’s first-in-the-nation voting status.
    .....
Not far away at the Iowa Democratic Party state convention, 588 were in attendance out of a total of 1,163 possible — just over half who could have participated. While the Republicans feuded, a reporter snapped a photo of a Democratic delegate asleep with his feet propped up on a chair.
    .....
Former state central committee member Monte Shaw spoke in opposition to the pro-Paul slate. Shaw said one person on that slate has attacked a staunch pro-life GOP lawmaker on abortion issues. And another has voiced support for same-sex marriage, he said.

The liberty slate doesn’t reflect desired social values, Shaw said.

And Shaw noted Santorum won the Iowa caucuses in January. “His supporters have an awful lot to add to this party, and it’s wrong to not have a single supporter as a delegate to the national convention,” he said.
And here is my comment on the article:

As one of the alternate delegates to the national convention, the husband of one of the delegates, and the Page County GOP chair, I would like to comment on this article. The only problems at our state convention resulted from a group of individuals who felt compelled to throw out the slate of delegates developed by the state nominating committee AND fight the recommendations of the state rules committee. The only things "not going well" were caused by delegates who felt that THEY, not the duly elected representatives of ALL FOUR district conventions, were better qualified to select the At-Large delegate slate. The members of both committees discharged their duties in an exemplary manner. No one can complain that any one on these committees or the state central committee broke or even bent any of the rules of the party. The self-appointed party bosses, who created the so-called "unity slate" in secrecy, planned on ambushing the convention with it. While the regular slate was mailed to every delegate more than a week in advance, their nominees were going to be sprung on us with no time to vet them or their qualifications. Their lame excuses notwithstanding, nothing about their efforts amounts to anything but the disruptive tricks of a bunch of sore losers.

As to the unity and calm displayed by the Democrats at the coronation next door, it is always easier to have "harmony" when slaves get together. When people are addicted to a bloated welfare state or make their living from a public sector that is strangling the real economy why would they rock the boat? When you are on the Titanic and refuse to see the ice berg, the only thing left to do is rearrange the deck chairs. You want to see a model of "harmony"? Go to a political rally in North Korea. Sure the GOP convention was noisy and messy. That's what should happen in a REPUBLICAN democracy when FREE men and women come together to hash out their differences.

Delegates... and those who send you to fight for liberty, be prepared to be tested to the extreme!

    Delegates

Beware, especially now that there is a push among 'fake?' Paul national delegates to NOT nominate Paul, all for the purpose of NOT embarrassing the party, and for GOP unity!

The attempts to convince delegates of this need will follow the propaganda tactic of reducing your reasoning down to just counting noses, the yellow-star strategy of defeat. It will include preventing the exchange of ideas on the floor, and not allowing you opportunity to convince others by your conviction to truth! In 2008 it included hired rent-a-cops walking the halls and searching women's purses, unconstitutionally, and seizing even Ron Paul authored books or grassroots signs! Few resisted. Those who did, often won, and the threat often disappeared! Most were intimidated!

The enemy of freedom is as large and tenacious as when we first began this fight years ago. It has increased it's size and strength, especially in the year when it's life blood of wealth comes to an end unless congress gives it new life! The euthanasia of the Fed is the greatest enemy threat facing Ron Paul delegates on the floor of the national convention.

It was a great force already at it's untimely birth 100 years ago. The party was intentionally split to bring that about in 1912. Think not that this enemy, that cause which animated Dr. Paul and now has awakened the grassroots, is any less today. It is greater and more desperate!

Such a desperate monster will subtly grant you nearly everything your liberty heart desires as you gain strength... but it will draw the line at the nomination for president, for that is the life blood of the Fed! That is why the nomination is also the life blood of the liberty movement!

Many of my relative's relatives could die between now and the convention! Is their murder at the hands of an 'America gone wild' of any concern to delegates contemplating platform window dressing as a palatable substitute for fighting tooth and nail for the nomination? Have we forgotten?

All Paul delegates could be put under intense pressure to NOT nominate from the floor, for president, the greatest congressman in the history of the United States! You need to be made aware of this push. Prepare to answer back with THE RON PAUL NOMINATION as the number ONE goal of convention, first in priority, before it is even questioned as 'one of the objectives'!

No platform has had any effect on changing the direction of the nation, except as an expression of the will of a people who were in the act of changing the occupants of the White House, and then Congress itself!

Instead, the platform will be as generic as all the Un-Paul candidates you saw on the stages of debate this last year! It is to become as generic as milk toast, just as if the title on the cover of a dictionary could suffice as the sum total definition for all the words inside, thereby saving the blank pages for coloring. The DNC, RNC, and bankers, had all along planned, just as they did 100 years ago, to split the party if Ron Paul was nominated! And, their backup good-luck plan, if they survived that threat, was giving the Ron Paul delegates that coloring book!

Delegates, be prepared to be tested in the extreme, tested as to your individuality, your consistency to truth and principle, your adherence to all that is right. It is entirely possibly you will be speaking in the end, totally alone, maybe only one of you left!

Ron Paul has known this and felt such pain, yet taken this stand for years!

How will our delegates, who the liberty grassroots have sacrificed so much to gain for their freedom and that of their children... how will they hold up under such mockery, vitriol, and assassination?

We will soon see what real battle still lays ahead for delegates and those at home!

Woe be to those delegates who are already so inclined, so inclined as to seek approbation from Quigley's corrupt party duo of Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum!

Already from Iowa we get this dismal treachery from a would be (Ron Paul?) new Central Committee member:

“The movement has a huge responsibility when it goes to Tampa to show Iowa we’re a real movement and we’re not there to be ramble(?) rousers,” said Dubuque Republican Dave Cushman, a liberty activist and new GOP state central committee member.

... Cushman said he doesn’t anticipate any attempt to nominate Paul as president instead of Romney – members of the liberty movement simply want to espouse the Paul message.

“The goal is not to embarrass the party,” he said. “The goal is to make the party stronger and broaden the base, and walk the Republican talk.”

Delegates, let it not be thus!

Focus and prepare. Know the rules. Show up!

Surprise: Experts Say Romney’s Defense Plan Doesn’t Add Up

    Ron Paul 2012

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney promises to increase defense spending by close to $2 trillion over the next 10 years. But his plans have people asking: where would the money come from?

Romney says he would reverse the defense cuts mandated by last summer’s Budget Control Act, but more importantly, he has set a goal of raising the Pentagon’s base budget to a floor of 4 percent of the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP). That’s .7 percentage points higher than President Barack Obama’s fiscal 2013 budget proposal.

Yet combined with his commitment to cut taxes and reduce the national debt, Romney’s pledge to grow the defense budget appears politically impossible, if technically doable, according to defense budget experts.

Romney just said he wants to balance the budget in 8-10 years!!!!

Said that cutting one trillion in on year is simply counter productive. Ie. Too many people would lose jobs - too much shock to the system.
