I don't understand this. It was 8:01pm and I was watching Fox News and they claimed Boxer had won. I realize many of the early mail in ballots immediately show and yet the % of votes counted were low. How can they claim such an immediate win? What am I missing?

FOX is projecting the win. It's not official.
They use exit polls to predict how people voted.

It's just a TV network saying who they think will win. It doesn't mean it is a fact.

Meg Whitman concedes in her speech. Congratulates Jerry Brown, etc., etc.

Brown and Boxer didn't win until they counted LA and SF. I don't even know why the rest of California even bothers to vote.

What do we Californian's do now? Our state is now officially gone. Half our state is insane and it's hard to live among them...We are the laughing stock of the nation.

I've lived here for more than 50 years and I have family here, so it's hard to leave. The whole thing is depressing... California is the sinking Titanic.
