I just noticed this wonderful thread. Thanks so much MountainDog for starting it. We're the same age about btw.
I may mention things people have posted and I recall many you have already posted but here goes.
Loved Clove gum.
Had to wear skirts and dresses to school.
The word 'respect' was drilled into me so I respected teachers, my parents, grandparents and elders.
Swats in school worked, not because they hurt but because they embarrassed the kid (was never swatted btw).
Miss bench seats in cars. Had a lot of fun with my hubby at drive-ins too, much freer.
Hoola-hoops were a blast!
Bought my first Barbie for $3 (when they first came out) and had to think real hard to buy her 'cause it meant I had to use a silver dollar my great-grandmother had given me.
Still have my old Blue Chip Stamps! Why? I don't know!
Listened to the AM radio and still remember my little red transister one.
Everytime I got a cold mother put Vics Vapor Rub (sp?) on my chest.
Concerts were huge and best one was Led Zepplin but did see the Stones also.
Hair permanents! Big yuk!!!
The tv stations ended at night playing the national anthem and we watched our flag wave. Then static which I can still picture.
Lots of happy family tv shows too, no worry about what the kids may see.
Saturday night was the night to go to 'town.' The kids cruised and adults would park and chat with neighbors and friends. Was also a band that played under a gazebo. Very festive it was.
The 50's were a wonderful time to be a kid and the 60's were a blast musically.
Thank you all for the trip down memory lane.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

My little avatar can take her.
Did you see her the other night behind bush sucking her teeth? That was just weird. So was Dick, when he wasn't laughing at GW.
On second thought, maybe it was a denture re-alignment.

What about:
Kick the Can (game)
Chinese Checkers
TV show "The Lone Ranger"
TV show "Roy Rogers & Dale Evans"
TV show "Hit Parade" (Saturday Nights)
TV show "Gillette's Cavalcade of Sports"
TV show "Dragnet"
TV show "Howdy Doody with Buffalo Bob and Clarabell"
The TV show that came on at 4:00 pm with the Vampires. I can't remember the name of it. I would rush home from school everyday to
watch it.
Having the same school teachers that taught your parents in school.
Walking home from school for lunch or bringing a brownbag lunch with your sandwich wrapped in waxpaper. No such thing as a Barbie lunch box or sandwich baggies. Driver's training classes offered in school.
Collecting returnable soda bottles for money.
Skating on wood floors using soft cloth to get the perfect shine after your mother applied the floor wax.

For a time, I too had to wear skirts and dresses to school. We were allowed to wear trousers under our skirts on the way to school when it was cold, but once we were in the warm building we were to take them off and look like little ladies. Ladies also wore hats to church, and sometimes gloves, even Protestants.
There was a teacher at one school of mine who'd taught my uncle. My ex was from parochial schools, and he said there was a nun when he was in elementary school who'd taught his mother and grandmother, and she was old THEN!Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
