Im glad I found this thread. I'm growing my own tomatos now. 2 cherry tomato plants and one Beefsteak plant. Which reminds me, I need to get off my duff and go feed them RIGHT NOW!

If anyone can kill a plant, trip, fall, or strip a screw-it'll be me....Last year, I tried only growing the larger tomatos and they got this black, rotting stuff on the bottoms as soon as they started to ripen. Does any one know what caused this? I thought maybe I overwatered them when they were young.....

So far so good on the ones I have this year (keeping fingers crossed)!
    Not enough sun..
Put coffee grounds around the plants to help hold moisture.
Once they start turning pink you can pick them and put them in your
    window sill to finish ripening.
That goes for any vegtable grown on on the plant.
Once they're full grown, they only need the sun to finish ripening.

Nothing like a good mater sandwich!

Some bread, some Dukes mayo, some salt and pepper and go!
A mater sandwich is also good with miracle whip. YUMMY!! Nothing like a home grown tomato!

I bought a tomato plant just the other day. I can't wait to make my first tomato sandwich.

I am having really good luck with mine. They are really bushy and healthy looking. One of them is about 28' high with a 5/8" thick stalk. The others are almost as big. I even have 2 tiny tomatoes already.

Sorry to go off tomato topic, but I'm growing a banana tree. If anyone has experience with these, please PM or advise. Just have a quick question or two.

    Absolutely...

Greenhouse gives you warmth...all you need is a little humidity. Humidifier? Couple ponds of water for evap? Chance to do butterflies as well...

I have a question. I have three tomato plants that are behaving different from another three in the same soil.

They are getting the same water, and same fertilizer treatment.

Only, these do not seem to be growing at the same rate - it's as if they suddenly decided to stop at 18". Their leaves are green and all that...however they maintain a slight curled state. Also, they tried to put out blossoms - however they turned white and dried out and only opened about an 1/8 of the normal 160 degrees open position.

The aren't suffering from wilt are they?
