Just got off the phone with his campaign and learned he just got back from Southern Cali. the heat pit of illegals. His no amnesty means no amnesty. Also heard the mayor of San Diego is trying to make an official La Raza day in San Diego.

    open borders

Why do people keep insisting that the LP is for open borders? Their stance has changed since 9-11. Vote for who you want to, but Baldwin can't even get on the ballots in all the states. If you are voting to make a difference ..well, you are barkin up the wrong tree. If you are voting your concience...ok fine. I am not supporting McCain or Obama. I am supporting Bob Barr. Bob Barr is not for open borders and he is not FOR amnesty..he is for limited government, that means the federal government keeps their hands off things that are not listed in the constitution. Have any of you seen Bob Barr on the news shows? He has been on there a lot. He's already polling 6% nationally with only 4 points to get into the debates. How's Baldwin polling these days?

Bob Barr does support amnesty, he has actually said as much. Sure, he didn't actually use the word amnesty but what politician does? Evidence has been provided here on ALIPIC on several occasions (check the archives). Barr thinks that illegals who successfully complete a police record check should be set on a path to legalization (that's amnesty).

As for open borders, to my knowledge the LP has not changed its position on the free flow of commerce and people across our borders. Actually, here was their 2004 platform on immigration:

    IMMIGRATION

We hold that human rights should not be denied or abridged on the basis of nationality. We condemn massive roundups of Hispanic Americans and others by the federal government in its hunt for individuals not possessing required government documents. We strongly oppose all measures that punish employers who hire undocumented workers. Such measures repress free enterprise, harass workers, and systematically discourage employers from hiring Hispanics.

We welcome all refugees to our country and condemn the efforts of U.S. officials to create a new "Berlin Wall" which would keep them captive. We condemn the U.S. government's policy of barring those refugees from our country and preventing Americans from assisting their passage to help them escape tyranny or improve their economic prospects.

Undocumented non-citizens should not be denied the fundamental freedom to labor and to move about unmolested. Furthermore, immigration must not be restricted for reasons of race, religion, political creed, age, or sexual preference.

We therefore call for the elimination of all restrictions on immigration, the abolition of the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Border Patrol, and a declaration of full amnesty for all people who have entered the country illegally. We oppose government welfare and resettlement payments to non-citizens just as we oppose government welfare payments to all other persons.

    Yep, 2004 came after 9/11.

    Excerpts from 2008 platform:

    3.4 Free Trade and Migration

We support the removal of governmental impediments to free trade. Political freedom and escape from tyranny demand that individuals not be unreasonably constrained by government in the crossing of political boundaries. Economic freedom demands the unrestricted movement of human as well as financial capital across national borders. However, we support control over the entry into our country of foreign nationals who pose a threat to security, health or property.
    2.7 Labor Markets

We support repeal of all laws which impede the ability of any person to find employment. We oppose government-fostered forced retirement. We support the right of free persons to associate or not associate in labor unions, and an employer should have the right to recognize or refuse to recognize a union. We oppose government interference in bargaining, such as compulsory arbitration or imposing an obligation to bargain.
That means the LP does not support E-verify.

They've cleaned up the wording a little since 2004. However, their core believes are still the same.

Every time I hear the LP talk about immigration I want to puke. I mean, does the WSJ write this stuff for them? They sound as bad as leftists and maybe even worse. They live is some fantasyland where nation does not exist, culture does not exist, and the world is a blank slate of people who just want more property rights. I think the Chamber of Commerce would actually like the LP better than they like the Republicrats on immigration.

Sure, Baldwin is not doing as well as Barr. But McCain and Obama are doing MUCH better than Barr......Why not vote for the amnesty supporter who is doing better than the amnesty supporter polling at 6%?

Baldwin is the ONLY candidate in the race who supports our views on immigration.
