Excessive consumption of BAD CARBS increases risk of CANCER

Carbohydrates are macronutrients that provide energy, protect against disease and weight control. However, observational studies show evidence that high intake of bad carbohydrates may increase the risk of developing certain types of cancer.
    Refined carbs

Refined carbs include bagels, bread and tortillas containing white flour (made from refined grains), breakfast cereals, pastries, pizza, rice cakes, waffles and white rice. They lack fiber and nutritional value.
The body uses refined carbs more quickly to create a short burst of energy. Once that burst is over, the body is prompted to eat more – resulting in higher caloric consumption that can contribute to weight gain or obesity, which then increases your risk of health issues.
    Sugars

"Cancer and sugar are best friends," said Dr. Patrick Quillin, former director of nutrition for Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma. "Sugar essentially feeds tumors and encourages cancer growth – at 10-12 times the rate of healthy cells. In fact, cancers light up when taken up into cancer cells after patients drink sugar water." (Related: A sugary drink a day could increase your risks of chronic liver disease and liver cancer.)
According to Quillin, an intake of 10 teaspoons of sugar can cause about a 50 percent reduction of phagocytosis or "cell eating" – the "Pac-Man effect" of the immune response. He also cited a study wherein research subjects were "found to have nearly a 38 decrease in phagocytosis one hour after consuming a moderate amount of sugar. Two hours later, their immune systems were suppressed by as much as 44 percent – with their immune functions not recovering completely for a full five hours."

    Ultra-processed foods

Ultra-processed foods are a "patchwork of ingredients" – containing high levels of added sugars, fats, hydrogenated oils, salt, starches and additives like artificial colors and flavors or stabilizers. They contain only a few ingredients from natural whole foods.
Researchers in a study published in the British Medical Journal associated a 10 percent increase in the proportion of ultra-processed foods in the diet with a 12 percent risk of overall cancer and an 11 percent risk of developing breast cancer – findings that add to strong scientific evidence that links poor diet with obesity, being overweight and cancer risk.
Available suggestive evidence in a meta-analysis published in the journal Clinical Nutrition showed consistently significant association between the consumption of ultra-processed foods and the risk of overall and several specific cancers of the bowel, breast, colon, pancreas and rectum.
    Great sources of good carbs

Carbohydrates in their natural, fiber- and nutrient-rich forms are healthy. Here is a short list of foods that are great sources of good carbs.
Green leafy vegetables, such as green leaf lettuce, kale, spinach and turnips. They contain carotenoids that act as antioxidants and boost the body’s own antioxidant defenses against free radicals that damage DNA, which can lead to cancer.
White vegetables, such as cauliflower. They are sources of lutein (a pigment that’s related to vitamin A) which has been shown to help remove excess estrogen and carcinogens from the body. Find out more healthy foods that are high in lutein.
Orange, red and starchy vegetables, including bell peppers, carrots, corn and whole potatoes. They contain anti-oxidant carotenoids (notably beta-carotene) that keep free radicals from harming the DNA in your cells.
Plant-based proteins, including beans, broccoli, legumes, mushrooms, nuts, seeds and soy. They have more fiber, vitamins and minerals and active phytochemicals that keep cells healthy and lower the risk of the type of DNA damage to cells that cause cancers.
Many nuts contain mostly healthy mono-unsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) – mainly oleic acid – that have been reported to decrease cancer risks, e.g., colorectal cancer and pancreatic cancer.
Unsaturated oils, including olive oil and extra virgin oils. A study published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences indicated that olive oil contains a number of bioactive substances, including polyphenols and triterpenes that exhibit anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-tumor properties.
Researchers in meta-analysis studies associated olive oil consumption with lower odds of developing breast and digestive cancers.
Whole fruits, such as bananas, berries, oranges and raisins. Nutrients in fruits not only stimulate the immune system, but also serve as great sources of fiber, vitamins, minerals and natural antioxidants that have cancer-protective effects. Learn more about fruits for a sweet way to reduce cancer risk.
Whole grains, such as barley, brown rice, oats and wheat. According to a study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, phytoestrogens in whole grains have hormonal effects and are particularly important in the prevention of hormonally-dependent cancers, such as breast and prostate cancers.

1 TBSP of Apple Cider Vinegar For 60 Days Can Help Eliminate These Health Problems

Amy S. August 28, 2023 1 Commenton 1 TBSP of Apple Cider Vinegar For 60 Days Can Help Eliminate These Health Problems

Vinegar is said to have been discovered around 5000 BC when unattended grape juice turned into wine and then vinegar. Originally used as a food preservative, vinegar’s medicinal uses soon came to light.
Hippocrates used vinegar to manage wounds, while medical practitioners in the 1700s used it to treat everything from poison ivy and croup to stomach aches. Vinegar was even used to treat diabetes.
Traditionally, vinegar is made through a long, slow fermentation process, leaving it rich in bioactive components like acetic acid, gallic acid, catechin, epicatechin, caffeic acid, and more, giving it a potent antioxidant, antimicrobial, and many other beneficial properties.
As reported in Medscape General Medicine:2
“The slow methods are generally used for the production of the traditional wine vinegars, and the culture of acetic acid bacteria grows on the surface of the liquid and fermentation proceeds slowly over the course of weeks or months.
The longer fermentation period allows for the accumulation of a non-toxic slime composed of yeast and acetic acid bacteria, known as the mother of vinegar.”

“Mother” of vinegar, a cobweb-like amino acid-based substance found in unprocessed, unfiltered vinegar, indicates your vinegar is of the best quality. Most manufacturers pasteurize and filter their vinegar to prevent the mother from forming, but the “murky” kind is best, especially if you’re planning to consume it.
Vinegar is not only useful for cooking, but it’s also useful for health purposes, cleaning, garden care, hygiene, and much more. In fact, a jug of vinegar is easily one of the most economical and versatile remedies around. I recommend keeping it in your home at all times…
19 Health Uses for Apple Cider Vinegar

There are no official guidelines concerning taking vinegar internally. Some people take one to two teaspoons a day, mixed in a glass of water, before meals or in the morning, and report benefits from doing so. The risk of taking small amounts of vinegar is low, and research suggests it may have some real health benefits.
    1. Diabetes

Vinegar has shown some anti-glycemic effects and has a beneficial effect on blood sugar levels. It’s thought that the acetic acid in vinegar may lower blood sugar by preventing the complete digestion of complex carbohydrates, which is accomplished either by accelerating gastric emptying or increasing the uptake of glucose by bodily tissues.

One theory is that vinegar might inactivate some of the digestive enzymes that break down carbohydrates into sugar, thus slowing the conversion of complex carbohydrate into sugar from a meal into your bloodstream.
This gives your body more time to pull sugar out of your blood, preventing your sugar levels from spiking. Quite a bit of research supports the use of vinegar as a diabetic treatment as well.
One study found that vinegar treatment improved insulin sensitivity in 19 percent of individuals with type 2 diabetes and 34 percent of those with pre-diabetes.
Another study found taking two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before bed lowered blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes by up to 6 percent by the morning.
    2. Heart Health

Vinegar supports heart health in multiple ways. As explained in the Journal of Food Science 6)
“Polyphenols such as chlorogenic acid, which is present in high levels in apple cider vinegar, could inhibit oxidation of LDLs and improve health by preventing cardiovascular diseases.”
One study showed that vinegar could lower cholesterol in laboratory rats, while another study on rats found the acetic acid could lower their blood pressure in vinegar.
Vinegar has also been found to decrease triglyceride levels and VLDL levels (the damaging form of cholesterol) in animal studies.
    3. Weight Loss

Vinegar may help you lose weight, as it appears to have an anti-obesity effect by increasing satiety and reducing the total amount of food consumed.
For instance, when volunteers consumed a small amount of vinegar along with a high-carb meal (a bagel and juice) they consumed less food for the remainder of the day. The reduction equated to about 200 to 275 calories a day – an amount that would result in a monthly weight loss of up to 1.5 pounds.
Also, the separate research found taking vinegar along with bread lowered not only glucose and insulin responses but also increased levels of satiety. The rating of satiety was directly related to the acetic acid level in the vinegar.
    4. Sinus Congestion

Apple cider vinegar may help break up and reduce mucous in your body, helping to clear your sinuses. It also has antibacterial properties, making it potentially useful for infections.
    5. Sore Throat

The antibacterial properties of apple cider vinegar may be useful for sore throats as well. Gargle with a mixture of about one-third cup of apple cider vinegar mixed with warm water as needed.
    6. Digestion and Acid Reflux

Acid reflux can be a result of having too little acid in your stomach. You can easily improve the acid content of your stomach by taking one tablespoon of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a large glass of water daily. The pectin in apple cider vinegar may also help to soothe intestinal spasms.
    7. Skin Irritations

Apple cider vinegar works for a variety of skin ailments, from bug bites to poison ivy to sunburn. You can either apply it directly to the irritated area or try soaking in a bath with about one cup of vinegar added.
    8. Warts

Topical application of apple cider vinegar may help remove warts, likely because of the high levels of acetic acid it contains.(12) You can try soaking a cotton ball in vinegar and applying it to the wart, covered, overnight.
    9. Energy Boost

Apple cider vinegar contains potassium and enzymes to help banish fatigue. Plus, its amino acids may help prevent the buildup of lactic acid in your body, further preventing fatigue.
Apple Cider Vinegar Around Your Home

(10534) How to Use Apple Cider Vinegar as a Home Remedy - YouTube

You can use distilled white vinegar for household use and the cider vinegar, made from fermenting fruits such as apples, for consumption. However, if you prefer, you can use apple cider vinegar around your home as well.
    10. Natural Cleaning

Vinegar is one of the best natural cleaning agents there is, and this is largely due to its antimicrobial properties. When added to food, the organic acids in vinegar (especially the acetic acid) pass into cell membranes to kill bacteria. Foods fermented with vinegar have a natural arsenal of antimicrobial organic acids, including acetic, lactic, ascorbic, citric, malic, propionic, succinic, and tartaric acids.
One study found acetic acid to be lethal to even E. coli O157: 1 ounceH7, while other research has shown substances

    11. Weed Killer

Vinegar is very effective to control weeds in your garden. Howard Garrett, also known as The Dirt Doctor, shared his recipe for vinegar-based herbicide (this spray will injure any plant it touches, so use it only on those you want to remove):
    Herbicide Formula

    • 1 gallon of 10 percent (100 grain) vinega1-ounce
    • Add orange oil or d-limonene
    • Add 1 tablespoon molasses (optional – some say it doesn’t help)
    • 1 teaspoon liquid soap or another surfactant (such as Bio Wash)
    • Do not add water

    12. Neutralize Odors

Apple cider vinegar in a bowl will help to neutralize odors in your home.
    13. Fruit and Veggie Wash

Vinegar is one of the best natural agents for removing certain pesticides and bacteria from your fresh produce. Try a solution of 10 percent vinegar to 90 percent water as a bath to briefly soak produce.
Just place your veggies or fruit in the solution, swish them around, and rinse thoroughly (don’t use this process on fragile fruits like berries since they could be damaged in the process or soak up too much vinegar through their porous skins).
    14. Hygiene and Beauty

You might even want to keep some apple cider vinegar in your bathroom cabinet…
    15. Hair Rinse

Apple cider vinegar helps remove product build-up and balance your scalp’s pH level. Try a weekly rinse of one-third cup of vinegar mixed with four cups of water.
For dandruff, try spraying your scalp with equal parts vinegar and water (mixed), wrapping a towel around your head, and leaving it to sit for an hour. Then, wash out and repeat up to twice a week.
    16. Facial Toner

Diluted apple cider vinegar on a cotton ball makes a simple facial toner and cleanser to help prevent breakouts. It might even help bruises to fade faster.
    17. Deodorant

Apple cider vinegar helps kill odor-causing bacteria, so dab a bit under your arms for a natural deodorant.
    18. Oral Health

Gargling with diluted apple cider vinegar can help to eliminate bad breath and whiten teeth. Keep in mind, however, that apple cider vinegar is highly acidic. The main ingredient is acetic acid, which is quite harsh, so you should always dilute it with water before swallowing.
Pure, straight apple cider vinegar could damage your tooth enamel or the tissues of your mouth and throat. (There is, in fact, one reported incident of long-term esophageal damage to a woman who got an apple cider vinegar supplement capsule stuck in her throat.)
    19. Foot Odor

Wiping your feet down with apple cider vinegar can help to eliminate odor-causing bacteria and smells from your feet.
How to Use Apple Cider Vinegar in Your Cooking

There are many creative ways to use apple cider in cooking. Try it in homemade marinades and sauces, soups, or even smoothies. You can even add it to baked goods (it will add extra lift) and, of course, use it in salad dressing (try it mixed with olive oil, garlic, and mustard, for instance).
Vinegar is good on fish as well and serves as a great tenderizing marinade for meat, giving it a good bit of zing. And it’s tasty drizzled over cooked greens or as a base for a cucumber salad. You can also try your hand at pickled vegetables using vinegar.
Vinegar is also a vital addition to homemade bone broth. When it comes to making broth, the vinegar helps leech all those valuable minerals from the bones into the stockpot water, which is ultimately what you’ll be eating. The goal is to extract as many minerals as possible out of the bones into the broth water.
Bragg’s raw apple cider vinegar is a good choice, as it’s unfiltered and unpasteurized. If you’re consuming vinegar for therapeutic reasons but don’t enjoy the flavor, you can alternatively consume other fermented foods to get the beneficial acids. This will then also help to recolonize your gut with beneficial bacteria. However, vinegar is easier and certainly safe to use, so you can certainly include it in your diet if you enjoy it.
Choose Your Vinegar Wisely: Avoid Distilled Vinegar

Distilled white vinegar is excellent for cleaning and laundry, but for health purposes, you’ll want to avoid the perfectly clear, “sparkling clean” varieties you commonly see on grocery store shelves. Instead, you want organic, unfiltered, unprocessed vinegar, which is murky.
As mentioned, that murkiness is caused by a cobweb-like substance called the “mother,” and it is indicative of a high-quality product. Finally, if you are considering taking apple cider vinegar medicinally, long-term excessive use could conceivably cause low potassium levels and can adversely affect your bone density – so moderation is important.
In addition, apple cider vinegar could theoretically interact with diuretics, laxatives, and medicines for diabetes and heart disease. If you are under the care of a physician and you want to try a course of apple cider vinegar, talk to your physician first to make sure it won’t interfere with any of the medications you are currently taking.
Advanced Added Bonus for Even MORE Benefits

You can consider using fermented vegetables. Like vinegar, it is a mild, acid but instead of acetic acid like vinegar, it has lactic acid.
In addition to being useful for many of the items above, properly fermented vegetables will provide you with two major benefits, they will help to replenish and improve your gut microbiome, and if a high vitamin K2 starter culture is used they will also provide you with useful doses of vitamin K2, which is every bit as important as vitamin D and works synergistically with vitamin D.

Ginseng’s secret weapon: Battling cancer with ancient wisdom

    10/16/2023 // Olivia Cook // 130 Views

Tags: alternative medicine, anticancer, brain cancer, breast cancer, cancer solutions, food cures, food is medicine, gastrointestical cancer, ginseng, ginsenosides, goodcancer, goodfood, goodhealth, goodmedicine, goodscience, herbal medicine, Herbs, Liver cancer, lung cancer, natural cures, natural medicine, phytonutrients, research, superfoods

Western medicine hasn't really recognized the incredible value of antioxidant-rich ginseng, until a review article was published in the Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines. The paper reported on the therapeutic potential of ginsenosides, the herb's main bioactive component, and their prospects in the treatment of fatal diseases such as cancer.
Studied extensively, ginsenosides display anticancer and anti-metastatic properties – not only by restricting cancer cell proliferation, viability, invasion and migration, but also by promoting apoptosis (cell death) or paraptosis (a new and unique cell death mode), cell cycle arrest and autophagy (the body's process of reusing old and damaged cell parts) in several cancers, such as brain, breast, gastric, liver and lung cancer.
Studies also indicate that ginsenosides can work synergistically with already existing cancer therapies or with other pharmaceutical agents.
Relevant studies concluded that acquired chemoresistance can be reversed or suppressed by ginseng’s ginsenosides and improves sensitivity to drugs in patients undergoing chemotherapy – confirming that ginsenosides taken with other pharmaceutical agents in new therapeutic strategies for cancer or may be used alone – with little to no adverse event or negative side effects.
    Ginsenosides kill cancer cells

Researchers in a study from the journal Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine reviewed and discussed all available literature to facilitate further research on ginsenosides and their role in the treatment of different types of cancer.

    Brain cancer

Researchers in a study from the Journal of Ginseng Research reported that in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) – the most common primary malignant brain tumor in adults and a challenging disease to be treated – ginsenoside F2 induced glioma stem cells, including CD133 cells (one of the most well-characterized biomarkers used for the isolation of cancer stem cells), to commit apoptosis and inhibit new blood cells from forming.
    Breast cancer

One study from September 2023 published in Frontiers in Pharmacology updated the therapeutic role of ginsenosides in breast cancer treatment and summarized its mechanisms of action, which include inducing apoptosis, autophagy, inhibiting epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and metastasis, and regulating miRNA and lncRNA.
Ginsenoside clears out damaged or abnormal cells – preempting their potentially damaging impact; regulates cancer cell cycle growth and proliferation; induces self-degradation; inhibits cancer cell spread from the primary tumor in the breast to other parts of the body; regulates EMT or the process by which breast epithelial cells transform into mesenchymal stem cells, which are more motile and invasive and regulates miRNAs, which can act as either tumor suppressors or oncogenes that can transform a normal cell into a tumor cell.
    Gastric cancer

In another study from Frontiers in Pharmacology, this time from October 2022, researchers referred to ginsenosides as "allies of gastrointestinal (GI) tumor immunotherapy."
The study reported that ginsenosides and related preparations have been clinically used in cancer treatment for a long time and have played important roles in the improvement of post-operative fatigue after cancer, reversing drug resistance and enhancing the efficacy of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Researchers suggested that ginsenosides could potentially complement the first-line anti-GI tumor drugs – improving treatment effects and patient survival times and quality of life.
    Liver cancer

According to a study from the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry suppresses hepatocellular carcinoma development by targeting the gut-liver axis.
Results of the study suggested that ginsenoside Rk3 application inhibited liver injury, fibrosis, or the overgrowth, hardening and/or scarring of various tissues) and cirrhosis – a condition in which the liver is scarred and permanently damaged.
    Lung cancer

In a study published in Food & Function, in in vivo and in vitro lung cancer models, ginsenosides Rg3, Rh2, and CK were reported to have strong anti-lung cancer effects.
Researchers also observed remarkable protective action from ginsenoside Rb1 in the models of pneumonia and acute lung injury by alleviating inflammation and oxidative stress and inducing apoptosis.
Moreover, researchers reported on the health-promoting effects of ginsenosides in the improvement of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma and pulmonary fibrosis (PF).
The study suggested ginsenosides as a potential natural medicine to protect the lungs from lung cancer and inflammatory lung disease.
    Adding ginseng to your diet

Ginseng root can be eaten raw or you can lightly steam it to soften the herb. (Related: Ginseng – Benefits of the popular Chinese root.)
Others add hot water to freshly sliced ginseng and let it steep for several minutes to make tea. Fresh or powdered ginseng can be added to various recipes like soups and stir-fried dishes, too.
Additionally, the extract can be found in capsule, oil, tablet and oil forms.
How much you should take depends on the condition you want to improve. Overall, daily doses of one to two grams of raw ginseng root or 200 to 400 milligrams of extract are suggested. It’s best to start with lower doses and increase over time.
It is highly recommended that you talk to your doctor before supplementing with ginseng.
Look for a standard ginseng extract supplement that contains two to three percent total ginsenosides and consume it before meals to increase absorption and get ginseng’s full health benefits.
Superfoods.news has more about the wonderful health benefits of ginseng.

Study shows green and black tea can inactivate several COVID-19 subvariants

    10/26/2023 // Cassie B. // 5.2K Views

Zinc and quercetin emerged as a powerful combination in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, but a new study has found that another natural approach may actually inactivate a common subvariant of the virus.
According to a recent study by Japanese scientists, three types of tea can quickly inactivate certain subvariants of omicron. Black tea, matcha and green tea (Japanese sencha) all boasted this helpful capability in tests.
Because the virus is largely spread through saliva that is released when sneezing, coughing or speaking, the scientists sought a natural method for inactivating the virus in saliva. After studying an array of ingredients and foods that they believed might be effective, the research team from the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine in Japan found that the polyphenols in green and black tea can bind to the virus’s infamous spike protein and stop it from infecting cells.
After steeping green tea, matcha or black tea in hot water and mixing a suspension of the virus into the drink for 10 minutes, they discovered that the infectivity of omicron subvariants dropped below 1 percent. Bottled green tea products had a similar effect, but they were only effective on some omicron subvariants.
Interestingly, they also discovered that the saliva people produce after eating candy that contains black or green tea can inactivate the virus and render it less contagious. After seven healthy volunteers involved in their study consumed candies that contained either black tea, green tea or no component of tea, the researchers collected their saliva. They found that those who had consumed the tea-containing candies had high concentrations of polyphenols such as theaflavin digallate and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).

When they mixed these samples with the omicron BA.1 virus strain for 10 seconds, they found that the virus was quickly inactivated – although this effect decreased a short time after finishing the candy.
Therefore, the researchers believe that a person who is infected with the virus could consume candies containing these teas in order to inactivate the virus and reduce their virus load, thereby stopping them from spreading it to others.
The researchers also found that different subvariants of omicron had different levels of sensitivity to the polyphenols in tea. While the ECGC in tea could inactivate more than 99 percent of BA.5 and BA.1 viruses, it did not have an effect on the BA.2, BA.2.75, BQ 1.1 and XBB.1 subvariants.
Past research has demonstrated additional antiviral properties in tea polyphenols. For example, researchers in Taiwan demonstrated that catechins can inhibit the replication of coronavirus and improve the acute lung injuries seen in some patients.
Drinking tea for health and immunity

While studies into the effects of tea on COVID-19 are ongoing, there is already an impressive body of research supporting the effects of tea on health and immunity.
For example, tea leaves contain vitamin C, which helps the body produce immune cells and antibodies, along with vitamin D, which is an anti-inflammatory vitamin that can combat pathogens. They also contain another powerful immune supporter in the form of zinc, along with iron and Vitamin A.
It is important to keep in mind, however, that green tea is generally a better choice because it does not undergo the oxidation that black tea is subjected to. Studies have also suggested that green tea can improve your metabolic rate and increase fat burning, while other research shows it could have beneficial effects on blood sugar control. It has also been linked to a reduced risk of heart disease and associated conditions, such as strokes, thanks to its positive effects on cholesterol levels.
