Roseanne says she 'begged' ABC, 'like 40 motherf-----s,' to let her 'make amends' before show was axed

By Elizabeth Zwirz | Fox News

Following days of heavy backlash for a string of controversial tweets, Roseanne Barr on Thursday said she “begged” ABC to give her a chance to “apologize & make amends.”

“I begged Ben Sherwood at ABC 2 let me apologize & make amends,” the embattled TV star tweeted about the ABC president. “I begged them not to cancel the show. I told them I was willing to do anything & asked 4 help in making things right. I'd worked doing publicity4 them 4free for weeks, traveling, thru bronchitis. I begged4 ppls jobs.”

She went on to apparently recall a conversation during which she claimed she “begged 4 my crew jobs.”

“He said: what were you thinking when you did this? I said: I thought she was white, she looks like my family! He scoffed & said: "what u have done is egregious, and unforgivable.' I begged 4 my crews jobs. Will I ever recover from this pain? Omg”

"I also told Ben Sherman that I would go in hospital to check my meds, bc the stress had made them less effective. I begged like 40 motherf-----s," she later wrote. "Done now."

The tweets followed a series of others, in which Barr spoke of God and religion, and appeared to specifically want to make amends to a few individuals who were the focus of her provocative tweets.

“Attempting to also get phone numbers for Jarrett, Michelle and GS to personally apologize to them tho I disagree with their politics,” Barr tweeted. “I was still wrong 2 dehumanize them-they r not my enemy, harboring hate & anger is my enemy. I can speak respectfully 2 those w whom I disagree.”
Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger says network's decision to cancel the reboot of the popular sitcom was 'right thing' to do; reaction from Fox News media analyst Howard Kurtz.

The tweet appeared to be in reference to former President Obama’s aide, Valerie Jarrett, as well as former first lady Michelle Obama and liberal donor George Soros.

Earlier this week, Barr tweeted that Jarrett, who is African-American and born in Iran, is like the “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby.” She also sent a politically charged tweet linking Chelsea Clinton to Soros.

The comments elicited wide criticism against the star, ultimately leading to the next season for the reboot of her namesake show being canceled and her talent agency, ICM Partners, deciding to drop her.

Amid the ongoing fallback for her comments, Barr returned to Twitter and retweeted an unproved claim posted by a right-wing activist, which accused ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey of consulting the former first lady before canceling the reboot.

Barr tweeted Thursday that she asked “God2 help me use this bad experience 2 move in2 a better place where I can be more useful to help suffering people who are homeless battered & hopeless in this world, everywhere.”

She continued on to say she is “so flawed” and thanked her followers for their “loving support.”

Barr also said she "intended to bring ppl together" and said it was "a joyous experience" to get "to work on the Roseanne show again."

See? Just like me, I thought Valerie Jarrett was white. How can it be racist if you think the person is white because they look white??

Roseanne is INNOCENT of racism. Uncancel her cancellation, ABC. Be men, be grown-ups, you're in the entertainment business, not the sorting out of who is white and who isn't.

By the way, why did ABC think Valerie Jarrett was black when she looks white? Did someone tell them she was black and who was that? Did they go snooping around in her DNA, her personal background?

So you are a racist too? If you throw racist slurs around, you don't have to sling them at any specific person for it to be hurtful.

I guess they were more aware than you and Roseanne. I knew because when I Jarrett started being know as the brains behind Obama, I looked her up. And I found that he had a Black administration, with Holder, Emmanuel and a few token whites.

I guess I am prejudice because I took note of that!

What can we say when the target of her racism is undeniable?

I've heard all types of white people called apes, baboons, chimps and our current President they call an orangutan. I'm not clear on what the ape word has to do with racism. We all came from apes, all of us, all shades.

Black Americans aren't protected against insults any more than anyone else is, and no one else is. They're protected against racism. Racism is when you cheat someone, refuse to hire them, refuse to pay them, refuse to serve them, arrest and incarcerate them without cause and kill them without reason because of their race. That is racism. I think everyone needs to stay focused and keep their eye on the ball, if you know what I mean. I've been called all types of names, horrible things, because I had an opinion someone didn't like. I've been denied jobs because I am woman, when I was hired, I was paid far less than male counterparts simply because I am a woman, in business, I've had clients breach their contracts and refuse to pay, simply because the amount was more than they thought a woman should earn. I know all about discrimination. Calling honchos, regardless of their race, who work or worked in high positions in the White House of an administration names and throwing insults at them isn't discrimination and it's not racism. It's political insults. It's gone on forever in this country, and I imagine other countries as well.

Roseanne Barr has been throwing insults at people as part of her comedy act her whole career. She's like a female lower-key version of Don Rickles. You remember Don Rickles? He was an insult comedian.

Roseanne deserves her show back, she should have never been canceled over that tweet. No one should have their show contract canceled over something like that. She shouldn't have done the tweet, it wasn't funny, she's apologized, she is not a racist and has never been a racist, she fights for the rights of everyone including black Americans all the time and has done so her whole life.

Americans have free speech for a reason. It's healthy, it vents, and people not only should have that right, we do have that right, and we're going to hear all types of ugly speech all day long if we listen and there's going to be hateful, hurtful speech all over the place. We can't cancel people's jobs, careers and contracts over what they say on their time whether it's at home in the living room or on a personal twitter. If we did, there would be no jobs, no careers and no contracts left.

Besides, no one is better at insulting politicians they don't like than black comedians.

I'd be dually convicted as highly ignorant and racist myself if I refused to acknowledge the historical nuance of using that particular animal in reference to black people. In high school, I was thin and lanky with a long neck. "G-man" for giraffe, was a tearm of endearment I picked up. Which one do you think is racist?

Do you really think of a Korean man when you hear the "N-word"? Conflation of racism and sexism is erroneous. Conflation of gay rights with blacks is offensive and ignorant. Conflation of illegal aliens to slavery is something that open borders numbskulls do everyday. Can we stop conflating?

OK for Chris Rock to sling racist comments...but others not so much!!! LOL

    ---------------------------------------------------------

Dear Chris Rock: You Racist, Ignorant Ass…

Steven Crowder Monday December 1 2014

So many of you have probably read this Chris Rock’s quote...

WASHINGTON TIMES – Chris Rock explained in a lengthy interview Sunday that he believes part of healing racial relations in America is by white people “owning” the actions of their ancestors.

The black comedian told New York magazine’s Frank Rich that racial progress in America is “nonsense” and that the only thing that’s changed is white people aren’t as crazy as they used to be.

“When we talk about race relations in America or racial progress, it’s all nonsense,” Mr. Rock said. “There are no race relations. White people were crazy. Now they’re not as crazy. To say that black people have made progress would be to say they deserve what happened to them before.”

Mr. Rich asked the comedian if white people are “adjusting to a new reality?”

“Owning their actions. Not even their actions. The actions of your dad,” Mr. Rock said. “Yeah, it’s unfair that you can get judged by something you didn’t do, but it’s also unfair that you can inherit money that you didn’t work for.”

    <img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-549"src="http://www.louderwithcrowder.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/chris-rock-chicken-and-waffles-bet-awards-2014-300x168.jpg"alt="chris-rock-chicken-and-waffles-bet-awards-2014"width="300" height="168" />

Now, I hate to be in the business of questioning comedians. Comedy is comedy, and just like any form of art, it shouldn’t be viewed through the lens of journalism. The problem here is that Chris Rock wasn’t doing comedy. He was giving a deliberate answer in an attempt to affect cultural change. So with that in mind, I’d have to ask…

Chris, firstly, allow me to ignore the irony found in you judging individuals based on the general actions of others. You know, the definition of “prejudice”. When put in the context of your “rant” against racism, the irony’s so rich that I’ll get gout. I’m talking serious uric acid build-up in my big toe, gout.

I guess the ultimate question comes down to: what’s the number? How many years back must individuals be held responsible for actions not of their own? Two hundred years? Three hundred?

    Give us a ballpark.

Also, is this standard exclusive to “crazy white people”? What about black, African slave-traders?

You know, the originals? As a matter of fact, slavery still goes on in many parts of Africa today (unlike here in the less homogenized United States). Should all black people “own” these actions as well? Is it limited to color, actual race or geographic location?

The prejudices you hold today (against “white people”) is very much like the prejudice Voltaire held against people of color. It was wrong for him to be racist, of course, but one of his misguided reasonings (among many) he believed blacks to be less than humane, due to their treatment/enslavement of other Africans.

The main difference in historical contexts between his racism and yours, is that he was unfairly applying a generality to a race of people currently abusing their fellow humans. You apply your generality based on that of past actions. Both are terrible.

    Yours is just worse.

I’m sure you’ve faced some discrimination in your lifetime Chris. I’m sorry that you’ve had to experience that, but I won’t apologize for those individuals. Just like you shouldn’t have to apologize for every jackass who forwards me your unwatchable “black people vs. n*ggas” routine.

You like using the n-word. We get it.

You’re a funny guy, Chris. You’re also a hateful one. I’d say stick with what you know, but I’m scared as to which one you’d pick, so how about I just spell it out for you?

    S-T-O-P B-E-I-NG A R-A-C-I-S-T J-A-C-K-A-S-S

    Thanks.

To me, the "N" word isn't a political insult, it's a racial slur. The "N" word is to black people, what the "Gook" word is to Koreans. Neither one are political insults of politicians and political power-brokers. Both the "N" word and the "Gook" word are slurs of ordinary people based on their race, just like the "C" word is a sexist slur against women. Until you've been called a "C", it would probably be hard for someone to understand that special "sting", too. To me the "C" word is the nastiest ugliest word in our language.

I currently live in a city that is 50% black. I've not seen, met or known 1 black person that in any way reminded me of an ape. On the other hand, I've met, seen and known quite a few thick squat no-neck overly muscular dumb-acting whites who did.

I guess in a perfect world, we would honor all of our politicians and power brokers, we would tape their pictures on our walls, worship the ground they walk on, grace them with constant platitudes, and hang anyone who didn't.

But, until then, I'm going to defend the right of Roseanne (and everyone else) to insult politicians and power-brokers (even my beloved Trump) using her free speech on her own time, complete with restoration and fulfillment of her completely separate show contract by ABC.

And I agree 100%, we must be careful not to conflate political insults with racism. That would produce bad outcomes like what ABC has done to Roseanne.

I understand their are many insults in human languages.
So, just like that, you can't even bring yourself to the reality, that's clearer than fish piss, that , historically black Americans were called monkey/apes.

We can have a long discussion about sexism, ableism, privilege, elitism, etc., a little later.

I'm asking about your ability to understand what Roseanne said and the impetus behind her words as they are framed historically in this country.

It, like many "offensive words" is defined as offensive by those looking to be offended. That leaves us in the position of bowing to their "sensitivity" or standing our ground and maintaining standard definitions. I mean some women are now "offended" by the use of "man" and in "MANkind", "MANpower" and "MANafort" . Do we change everything to cater to the lowest common denominator?

"Mr. Warmth"! He insulted anybody. It wasn't/isn't racist. He is Jewish, but would insult Blacks, whites, Jews, Hispanics, anybody.

While Roseanne's persona would scare me away, that quirkiness plays off the other characters in her show. In a way, it was like Archie Bunker "The loveable bigot"! We don't like what they say, but we enjoy laughing at them.

And many comedians aren't what we would call "normal". Robin Williams was one who has personal problems hidden behind his comedy. Many comedians are the result of problems they hide behind their quirky behavior.
