07-07-2006, 06:02 PM #181Dixie and other Star Wars fans,
I liked SciFi as a kid, especially some movies and Star Trek that I watched before I was a teen. I was a teen when Star Wars came out
Ok then for Trek fans....Deep Space Nine watchers. Do you remember the 2 part episode when Sisco, Dr. Bashir and Dax went back in time to the US and Sisco and Dr. Bashir ended up in the sanctuary city? That episode is what I picture our future to be like if it keeps going on as it is.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

The original problem with the silly posts were the e-mail triggers where many users had set up alerts. They would get an email and go to view the topic they were watching only to find some silly comment about a pig.
When the dedicated thread got started that alleviated that problem. Yes, there was a user or two that got hot under the collar about the thread but near the end we were getting a lot of complaints.
What started off as a playful game turned into disquised insults against other users that were out on the open boards.
I can remember thinking that it was nice some users could blow off some steam here if that is what they enjoyed before the thing took a dark turn. When me and the mods tried to step in diplomaticly to settle things down then we got a few people that were in our face instead of being team players and that confirmed what we felt we were seeing already.
Not everyone that cares about illegal immigration is the kind of person that can get along with and work with others.
When we received communications from two people participating the pig avatar thread saying another user or two were plotting some kind of "revolt against alipac" because they did not like anyone ever telling them what to do, then it was time to clean house.
Some people would rather tear down someone elses work and efforts as opposed to simply going their own way and doing something constructive on their own.
The Minutemen went through something similar where they had to run off some people that just could not / would not work as a team.
It takes a lot of understanding, patience, and offered trust for us to all work together and accomplish the things we have while combining our efforts.
For us to prevail, we have to have some sense of order and we must all give in many ways to form a large and effective group. Otherwise, ya just end up with a few lone voices babbling and getting nothing done.
ALIPAC has proven we can get it done.

NMIAnnie,
After you watch the movies, you must come back and confess your new found appreciation for Star Wars. My mother was a Star Trek fan so I come by it naturally. In fact, I was a kid when I went to see Star Wars with my mom and my great-aunt. Believe me, you never would have guess that my mother was a closet Trekkie.
Get all the videos and have a Star Wars weekend.
I think I will rent the original movie soon as my youngest has not seen it and I'll watch it with her.

I'm a big fan of Stephen King novels and read many and especially his earlier ones. Sometimes the movies though ruin the stories in the novels. After Carrie, the Shining was my all time favorite: the novel, the first movie with a spooky Jack Nicholson along with a 2-3 part movie in later years made for TV.

Here they are whether SCIFI, Horror or Mystery/Suspense: The Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Night Gallery.
The comedies of this/these eras such as "I Love Lucy" and "The Honeymooners" were much better too than the crap that passes for entertainment on TV today. I rarely watch TV now and stick mostly to the internet when it's working.
