I agree with most of what you've written, but there are some things that I do not agree with.
America has citizens living here who are from many different countries and cultures. I feel we all have the liberty as Americans to celebrate our distinct cultures from St. Patrick's Day to Cinco de Mayo; so I cannot say that one is shoving one's culture down the throats of others since many Americans hail from distinct cultures.
We assimilate, but we still celebrate who we are individually.

Not true. They don't assimilate. They are shoving their culture down our throats., they REFUSE to learn english. In the high school of my town latino students had a big tantrum saying it was racist to make them speak english in their classes. The high school is also, against the wishes of many non latino parents extendng winter break from 2 to 3 weeks because the latinos use the time to go visit "distant' relatives. Only 20 percent of latinos in my town graduate from high school yet everyone has to work around their needs. Here in my town you can speak spanish and only spanish and get a job, but english only speakers are turned away. This is American NOT Mexico.
I never said you shouldn't be proud of where you came from and celebrate your culture. I'm half Irish and celebrated it along with many others on March 17th. My mother's parents came over here from Spain in the 1920's. And you know what? They did it legally and they learned and then taught their children ENGLISH. Do you see bilingual classes for German,Polish,Chinese,Japanese etc... in all of our schools? No because they learn English. I went to a downtown 4th of July celebration in my town 2 yrs ago and do you know what I saw? 80 % latinos, speaking spanish and the mexican flag everywhere. That IS having their culture shoved down my throat.

Perhaps I might have misread your initial post in this thread.

I am all for diversity and celebrating one's culture.
I do agree, however that when one enters the US, they must assimilate by first legally entering the US, following and obeying all of its laws, and learning to communicate in the official language.

I was referring to the legal citizens in this country who have assimilated and continue to celebrate their own diversity as well.... not to illegals.

    Just my opinion but!

I have been wondering when people were going to connect the dots, and figure out this is a result of Globalization, NAFTA, CAFTA, WTO, and Pappy, & Baby Bush/Clintoniestas, NEW WORLD ORDER

They would have us believe it’s all economics and trade, but in reality it’s forcing us down to the level of third world status, and putting our whole society on the same level as poor countries. This Illegal Alien problem, and cheap labor, is the byproduct of their efforts to bring prosperity to the richest among us, while dragging the middle class down into poverty. But they forget, the backbone of this country, and the thing that makes this country great, is the Middle Class, destroy us and you destroy America.

Globalism is nothing but International Corporate Socialism, (UN style Communism), and our politicians are heading us down the road to destruction. You can’t have a One World Government, or a North American Union, and our US Constitution too, they are incompatible, and cannot coexist, so political elements within our government, promoting it, have sold out our country, and dooming our children to lives of servitude, and poverty.

Don’t look now folks, but Yesterday’s Conspiracy Theories, are quickly becoming Today’s Conspiracy Facts.

I was living in San Diego when the huge influx of VietNamese arrived. They never needed bilingual instruction in classes and they are doing so well in High schools and colleges they are not counted as minorities. Last year there were 2 perfect scores on the SAT (never happened before). Both students are VietNamese. I think that you live up to what your culture expects.
The illegals didn't have everything handed to them in Mexico or they wouldn't be here. Where did this sense of entitlement come from. Are they low functioning people preying on American middle class guilt?

Well if that is the case, then nothing can be done about the illegal situation in this country. The things you mention will just have to 'come to pass'.... will it not?

That El Cajon emblem is both shocking...and ominous.

Before I began noticing the influx of spanish-only speaking folks in my small town 3 years ago, the only place I knew that had a significant number of spanish speakers was half and hour away, in Kennett Square, PA. People from Mexico had been workers at the many mushroom farms located there for as long as I can remember (perhaps legally). What began as a trickle in my town though, quickly became a flood, especially in the last 2 years. When I go to the local gorcery store on any given Saturday or Sunday it appears that no less than half of the customers are conversing spanish. The development where I live hasn't been affected yet but, if what is happening to the some of the more modest neighborhoods (Mexican flags, blaring music, trash stewn everywhere) to the north, is any indication, it is only a matter of time.

What really got my attention though was when I began noticing, especially last summer, the glaring lack of black and white workers putting on roofs, working at construction sites, laying black top, ect. With the exception of supervisors, all these workers appeared to be of spanish decent. No, that doesn't automatically make them illegal aliens, but the very obvious exclusion of other racial groups doing these traditionally decent paying jobs is a plausible reason to suspect so.

According to friends in lower Delaware, where the Purdue chicken processing plants are located, it is quickly becoming bedlam akin to what what the OP describes.

We must do EVERYTHING in our power to end this insanity. Work like you have never worked before to do so...NOW!

Only if America's 500,000,000 citizens rise up and challenge the relative handfull that are allowing it to happen. But I fear that most Americans choose complacency over action.

Wow. Man. This is my first post here. I had no idea people were so .... ANGRY .... about this subject!

I tried to discuss a related issue on another website and none of the people there even seem to want to discuss it. It's too scary or unliberal for them, or something.

Diana717, as upset as you are, I know what you mean. I lived in Southern Cal for 30 years and one of the reasons I left was the escalating racial tension caused by having two cultures, two languages, two value systems coexisting in one place. Diversity is great, but when we can't even COMMUNICATE? Hey, I draw the line at language, because common language creates common understanding, if not common values.

I was blown away when a Latina co-worker of mine began to defend the concept of illegal immigration to me. Her justification was based solely on the fact that her grandfather came here illegally, and because he did it, it should be allowed.

You had some interesting things to say, and I have begun to wonder if what we're headed for is an International Corporate Dictatorship -- and a "capitalism" that looks a lot more like the feudal domination of the Middle Ages.

Back on topic: I don't think it's racist to want to live in a country where we can all communicate in the same language. I don't think it's racist to want to protect your borders. Australia does that very effectively -- even ruthlessly. Of course, they have the additional advantage of being surrounded by water. But no one criticizes Australia for holding immigration down to an absolute minimum and having certain preliminary requirements (language, education, job classification, financial viability) for entering their country to live and work. My point is, there's all this hue and cry because the United States wants to protect their borders. We're accused of being RACIST because we object! WHY??

What's on the Statue of Liberty wasn't intended to be an open invitation to the whole world to come on in, disregarding all our laws and customs. I just re-read it. I don't believe Emma Lazarus was thinking very far ahead when she wrote it. In any case, it's a poem carved on a statue, not an Amendment to the Constitution ....

    abcrystcats,

Welcome to Alipac. I lived in California a long time ago and before things got bad with the illegal invasion. I was three when my family moved to Lompoc and 11 when we left. Dad worked at Vandenburg Airforce base as a civilian under contract with the military. I've never been back to California. It WAS a beautiful State. I would not look forward to going back for a visit and see how it has been ruined.
