Bear, you make good points. I am really torn on this issue. If I vote for McCain, I'm voting for a candidate who I disagree with on a number of points, particularly immigration. However, I am terrified of Obama. With the backing of a liberal democratically controlled congress I fear that he could do irreversible harm to the country on a number of fronts, both domestically and globally. There is strong evidence to suggest that the DNC is concerned that Obama is a deeply flawed candidate and would likely loose to McCain in November. For the DNC to be worried indicates that he is even too far left of center for them! Perhaps McCain will win this election and the American people in the meantime will find a true conservative (republican or independent doesn't matter) to stand behind four years later. However, regarding an Obama win...A "good November showing" by an independent captain may not matter if the ship has already been sunk.

The problem is that a vote for McCain will be taken as "proof" that Americans support and desire comprehensive immigration reform. If McCain wins, he will turn around and say "Illegal immigration must not be that big of a deal to the majority, because they voted for me." He will then proceed to bully the republican senators into voting for his measures, while the democrats gleefully go along with it.
Obama/McCain is a lose-lose situation, and should be approached as such. Further, supporting the McCain/Craig/Bush version of the GOP is reinforcing the very opposition we fight against daily here. Pick a positive goal and work towards that. Supporting the lesser of two evils means that the best you can hope for is the status quo in the short run and certain defeat in the long run.
For example, third parties can get federal funding in the next election cycle if they get enough of the popular vote in 2008. We really need to break the stranglehold of the two party system. And if nothing else, you will have a clean conscience by voting for something you believe in."We have decided man doesn't need a backbone any more; to have one is old-fashioned. Someday we're going to slip it back on." - William Faulkner

Years ago, lots and lots of years ago, when I was in the 5th grade five or six of my classmates would walk home together after school. When we would arrive at a certain fenced yard a large dog would run out with his tail wagging and we would all pet him and he would run off happy. One day our classmate started poking him through the fence with a big stick when he ran up, he would yelp and run off, Doug thought this was funny and he was superior to the friendly dog. This went on for several days the friendly dog would run to the fence wagging his tail and Doug would keep poking the friendly dog. Then one day Doug poked through the fence and the friendly dog took a couple of quick bites out of Doug's hand and arm. The point "my friends" I feel like the friendly dog every time Senator McCAMNESTY pokes me with his Open Borders and Blanket Amnesty Stick!

I know there are alternatives to these three candidates, people that are Pro America and thats who I'll vote for. I refuse to vote for anyone that contributes to the downfall of America and the loss of my American rights. Anyone that votes for one of these three deserve what they get because they surely know before hand what they are getting. Will our sons a daughters understand why we voted for traitors when we could have voted for patriots? Even if the patriot we voted for doesn't win, we stand on principals. Once we vote for one of the three evils, the government considers that support for the agenda they seek.IT'S NOT HOW YOU GET IN, IT'S HOW YOU GET OUT

I will vote for MCcain over Obama..Obama scares the you know what out of me..MCamnesty is a fool, we all know he is fool..We pretty much know the directions he will take..
I believe we can and will defeat any amnesty bill Mcnutt puts up..I am not so sure about Obama...
I would vote for Hilary over MCamnesty and Obama..
However people which ever one of them wins,,,,We are in for a long four yrs.
I have never understood the American presidents race..I mean they spend "MILLIONS" in a campaign for a job that only pays $400,000 a yr. That should tell you something irght there."We are not for any type or form of "AMNESTY"..We are a equal oppurtunity deporter. We will not discriminate against you due to your race/age/religion .. "

Get ready for many more election cycles that look like this if McCain wins. True conservitism demands too much from the status quo. Hence McCain.
"I think there is a chance than an alternative candidate could have a chance in four years, but not now."
Not a snowballs chance in hell. Every election will have the bogey man on center stage, right along side the lesser bogey man, therefore the status quo will continue til people quit allowing fear to drive their vote for the lesser of the two evils. It is written in the game rules. They write'em, we play by'em.
Try throwing fear out the window, then where do you stand? We can fight them now, or we can fight them later. The longer we put it off the more entrenched they become.
