Thread: No English speakers need apply

In November I sent Penney's a email letting them know I was going to cancel my account because they were playing Mexican music and speaking spanish on their PA system. I got a reply apolizing and saying they would look into it. I posted their response on this forum. I also had just spent thousands on furniture. I haven't bought anything since.

A couple of weeks ago they called and said they were sorry and didn't want to lose my business so they would give me an additional 20% discount on anything I buy if I would not close my account. I told them what I thought of them and hung up.

Thanks MontereySherry, If you want, you could still send them a love note now lol, I think it would be wonderful if they came in and their mailbox was full of ex customers.

I printed the image. I suggest we all do that and fax it to them and ask them to close our accounts. My husband told his fellow employees about it last night and they are livid. In fact one guy is emailing him to see how to join Numbersusa and Alipac. Just keep having casual conversations folks it spreads like wildfire when they see something this blatant. Even a Hispanic girl in the department heard them talking and she is angry too. She doesn't speak Spanish. She is pregnant. My husband said, if this isn't stopped, this is going to affect the bundle in your stomach even more. (Deer in the headlights look)

The few people here I have mentioned it to, are shocked.

Now combine that constitutional amendment along with the pennys sign, I say we have a wonderful class action lawsuit. I would file it myself if I still lived in California, but I am afraid it would be thrown out if I filed now because I am no longer a resident of that state.

But you see, you are wrong. The EEOC has said it is illegal to require ENGLISH, they say it is discrimination based on ethnicity. If that is true, they why is it not illegally discriminatory to require Spanish. You would think it would simply mean you can't ask anyone to speak any certain language.
